Co-Op City is one reason that Steve Harvey called Bronx "Boogie Down Bronx," when he was Showtime at the Apollo. Bronx could put Brooklyn to dire shame, even though Brooklyn has Spring Creek Towers that were Starrett City. As a Brooklynnite, I could raise a thumbed-nose to the borough.

Very inspiring that something like this could exist in the US. I'm trying to start a housing cooperative in my hometown of Charlotte, NC Edit: Having a hard time finding people (attorneys, developers, etc) with experience or knowledge of housing cooperatives causing me to hit many deadends. If anyone has any advice I'd greatly appreciate it!

Try reaching out to your local chapter of the organization Habitat for Humanity. They can help guide you in the process, show you how to secure funds, and give referrals. You can also reach out to your local politician's office and explain that you're trying to start a co-op in your community and want to know what steps to take. Don't be discouraged. Keep going! Many of the residents that took over their buildings in NYC from the slumlords and turned them into co-ops, didn't have prior knowledge of co-ops. They had to educate themselves and reach out to others to find resources. Decades later many of these co-ops are still here. Everyone has to start from somewhere. You are the one you've been waiting for! You can do it!

7-G , In building 16A, watches 6-G , Shower & take number 2. He follows me 24 hours a day, trying to keep a device, on top of my head. I've been here 50 years , & he's always been a weirdo.
