I teach 8th grade ELA at a public school in Phoenix and had a tough day. I needed to watch this to make me feel like I could (still) be the kind of teacher the coach is. Tomorrow is another day.

I was 13 when this came out and even back then I agreed with coach Carter. You say that the community is behind your team and yet they're not thinking long term about the teams situation. Say that the kids do get into good colleges but don't preform well in the classrooms. Bad grades means that they can't play, that happens and they'll lose their scholarship and last I checked college is very expensive. College doesn't Cottle kids. It gives them a sample of the real world and they don't care if your a great athlete. People in sports towns need to stop treating their high athletes like they are in Varsity Blues before they end up in prison or worse dead in the streets.

This movie still makes me cry till this day. It's such an amazing inspiration. I remember when this movie came out watched it in theaters i was only 12. Being a big basketball guru I knew what what these guys felt when they lost. But reading the ending. They didn't lose nothing. Definitely a gem and will never get old! Rich whaaaa???

This hits close to home for me, as I am from Pinole, next town over from Richmond, but, my Grandma grew up in Richmond and went to that high school when it was called Richmond Union High School! The principal who was portrayed in the movie was the principal at Pinole Valley High a few years before this when my younger brother was there! Let’s say, my brother knew her well!🤣🤣🤣

Is Coach Carter based off a true story? It is based on the true story of Richmond High School basketball coach Ken Carter, who made headlines in 1999 for suspending his undefeated high school basketball team due to poor academic results. The story was conceived from a screenplay co-written by John Gatins and Mark Schwahn.

adore your reaction so much , how at the beginning you were not really liking/vibing theirs team vibe ect. and the more and more the movie progress how you became visibly more and more into the movie , pause your facial expression at the beginning and at the end of the movie , totally two different emotions , love a movie that can do this to ppl , never fails to feel inspired and amazed at how beautifully the story line & characters (based on real story & people) progresses✨ .. anyways all that to say... , I love your reaction and this movie so much !! x W

i was 16, girlfriend was 15, we got dropped off to go see a movie. i forget which one she wanted to see, but it was sold out for that day, so instead we just went with whatever was showing next, which was Coach Carter. me and her walk in the theater and it's FILLED with black people (we're white) and she clings to my arm. I lead her a couple rows back to where we can sit next to each other, she puts up the arm rest and leans against me good movie, I'd never heard of it before or after. she's long gone but I still have coach samuel l jackson in my heart. also the audience was really loud
