Coach Driving Tips with James: Driving on A Roads

Welcome to this new spin off series, a bit of a trial video so hopefully useful to someone!
In this one we are covering A roads on a journey from Oxenwood to Devizes. In future ones I may mix it up and cover different snippets of journeys to cover different scenario's.

Excellent video, interesting to watch so very different there the roads, especially the country lanes.The principles of driving you covered are identical here in Australia, constant awareness and reading the road ahead. The left side of the bus/coach is the most vulnerable and where most trouble will occur, we were told to keep a space of 2 metres when passing parked vehicles, do not know if they are occupied, someone opening a door or a pedestrian steeping out between them. At roundabouts, depending on its design and width, lane splitting makes it much easier to get around, but need to set up beforehand. Very informative James.

Absolutely, 2 meters is only good if you can do it! I got a minor in my test for that, but it was one of those moments where you were getting a minor anyway, it was a busy main road with parked cars on the left so was squeezing past the parked cars, if I waited for a gap so I could keep a distance, I'd be waiting there all day!

I'm a hgv class 1 driver thinking of doing my pcv test , I've been driving artics for 7 years and fancy doing coaches now 😎 I wouldn't do public service bus 😬

I've noticed a lot of modern buses and coaches suffer from loose sounding rattles and knocking noises at the front end - is this from suspension components?

@robertp.wainman4094 Yes built differently to how they used to, not hand crafted anymore built by machines and more plastic and other light and cheap materials, many new service buses have rattles probably more noisier than new coaches, but not necessarily suspension parts, in buses grab handles rattle, plastic on side panels, seats etc rattle though state of the roads really don't help

As a newly passed bus driver, toying with going coach later on. Very useful thank you BUT will the volume down it's bus porn those angled wing mirrors phowah and rear view camera 😬...I have arrived 🤣🤣

Keep making vlogs great incite your vlogs one of big influencer to want me get into coach industry and when test drove tri axle Mercedes Benz tourismo on course track riverside stadium middlesbrough open day I'll be doing my pcv either September or early next year depending on courses currently in security industry. I follow j Wang and motorcoach world coach industry needs more professional drivers like yourself encourage more into the industry

Absolutely, glad it has become useful! How did you find the Tourimso, quiet isn't it? I know what you mean there are hundreds of trucking ones, but then they are easier to do as there aren't passengers

At 😂 least don't have to contend with saltburn at saltburn by the sea bank and birkbrow bank teesside and north Yorkshire some of steepest gradient b roads in Britain lol 😂

Why you are a danger to yourself, your passengers and all other road users. Question on defensive driving and experienced driver's anticipation...what is the width of your coach, the width of an "A road lane". the permitted width of an agricultural vehicle or a wide load without and escort? You only have to dither a second or two or get the answer wrong once to cause carnage. Don't try giving advice on a subject you obviously know so little about.
