You can call it love all the live long day, doesn't make it so. This was a predatory relationship and his own father was more than happy to pimp out his son to keep him in the coach's good graces. The coach is a predator. Plain and simple. What he said about seeing him shower and falling in love made me sick. This poor kid was being used in sick ways by his coach, pushed way to hard by his father, and hated and resented by his mother. He literally had zero adults in his life that he could trust. Just because he thought he was in love with his coach at the time does not mean it wouldn't have messed him up later in life. This is just heartbreaking. This kid had no one in his life but sickos and wackos.

I totally agree that he needed protection but an inappropriate relationship, that was consensual, cannot be labeled 'abuse' in the same breath as being killed. Having an affair with your coach, who has nothing but obvious and sincere praise for you is no where near the BETRAYAL of being MURDERED BY YOUR PARENTS. Have some perspective please! People in a position of power like coaches and presidents have a DUTY OF CARE towards those 'under their control' which is a derived duty that has to be explained and agreed to before taking the job. Parents on the other hand have a DUTY OF CARE towards their children's well being that is categorically the most primary by any concept or measure, orders of magnitude more important than a boss or coach. I hope nobody has to explain to a parent that they should ever consider killing their children under ANY circumstance and not just the simple two factors of 'are they over 18 and do they still live with us or work for us', like a coach would when considering having a relationship with someone. For clarity: Yes we all need to protect and promote children's development and safety whenever possible, that is the duty of every adult in 'the village' that it takes to raise a child.

What a sad loss. It's a shame that this coach was left to carry on with his life after his choices & actions destroyed this young man's life. I was startled when you said that the coach wasn't charged criminally until I remembered that Kyle was 18 years old. In the eyes of the law he may have been an adult, but in the situation he found himself in, he was a young man presumably with no past sexual or romantic experience, and was preyed upon by his coach of all people. Disgusting. Worst of all is Kyle's parents. As a former alcoholic in recovery, I know that I have done all manner of ridiculously stupid, foolish, and yes, sometimes criminal (never to the extent of murder, mind you) things, but there is no excuse that either of his parents can hide behind. The father should've gone to the police IMMEDIATELY. The mother, fueled by alcohol & her own jealousy, is still responsible for her actions. These two were so vain & self-serving that they were willing to cast their son aside for their own selfish purposes. It's vile. I pray they will all get the help they obviously need and seek forgiveness from the highest court of all, where I hope their son is now.

The coach might not have been guilty of rape, as the boy was 18, but he was the boy’s coach and teacher. The coach was guilty of abuse and maybe even extortion. College professors can’t sexually abuse their students and corporate executives can be prosecuted for sexually harassing their employees. When the perpetrator has a position of authority over the victim, the victim can’t say no. What is wrong with that Carbondale IL school? They should have fired the coach and notified the Illinois State Board to terminate his teaching certificate. The DA should have pressed charges. Actually, the channel owner should report the man to the School Board. They might not know. “ME TOO” didn’t teach us very much, did it?

I asked ChatGPT (the free version) "Was there a Kyle Ellerbee murdered in Carbondale, Illinois in 2014?" This was the reply: "Yes, Kyle Ellerbee was a young man who was tragically murdered in Carbondale, Illinois, in 2014. He was shot during an incident that occurred on April 1 of that year. The case drew attention due to the violence involved and the impact on the local community. Several individuals were arrested and charged in connection with his death. The coach chose his career path in order to place himself where he could be around young boys and watch them shower and play out his fantasies....happens all the time. Gay coaches will everywhere!

This narrative makes no sense. Why would a detective (Sarah, apparently, not Sally as the narrator said) ask about a sexual relationship? That's a stretch. Many other contradictions and _non sequiturs._ But it is puzzling that the coach chose a ginger when there were likely many blonds and brunets on the team. Maybe the other boys were already involved with other teachers.

Interesting story to listen to, but not very believable. The father would have been charged with accessory after the fact, tampering with evidence, and other crimes. He would have gone to prison for a while. The coach would have been immediately fired before he had time to resign. No school would tolerate his behavior, even if it was not illegal, because the student was eighteen years old. While many fathers accept and love their gay sons, I doubt any father would approve of his eighteen-year-old kid having a sexual relationship with one of his teachers.

Kyle was eighteen years of age so we must not jump to the conclusion that the relationship between him and his coach was abusive There is far too much pompous presumption displayed in the comments already. However, coaches simply should not bed their charges because of the enormous trouble it can cause.
