Step 1. Have a great jab Step 2. Take rounds behind the jab forcing the turtle out of it's shell Step 3. Counter, trap, tie up, depending your stamina/athleticism/KO-power.

This is fantastic. One thing to point out too all my fighters who use the philly shell. It is VERY hard too beat in close range (If you’re good at it) I use it exclusively inside or close range. It has less openings from that distance and its much easier to roll and counter. with the shots. You can also feel what your opponent is gonna throw if your inside. The philly shell starts to break down the further away you are, getting picked apart and having these openings is much easier when your medium to long range away because your a larger target. If your at medium to long range try having a conventional base or at least a half philly shell (keep your left hand a little higher, right hand glued to your chin) Good luck yall, Coach Anthony is the 🐐🐐

To beat Floyd, I think you need to be aware that the philly shell wasn't his bread 🍞 & butter 🧈. Luring his opponents in and counter was... Also not allowing your opponent to punch was his defensive weapon no. 1.
@discowolf25
@discowolf25 Жыл бұрын
The more I think about Floyd’s defense the more genius it is but, not in the way people think. It’s incredibly simple. First and foremost he had freedom in the ring more so than most of his opponents and, he still does. That’s the base. Lure them into rounds 7-12, he knew he was 95% getting the W. But, his elbow frame against orthodox fighters mixed with the check hook against the ropes… that’s absolutely his bread and butter. Also, when he catches punches on the outside… he hasn’t done that in a shell since like… Cotto the first time? Honestly I dunno if I remember Floyd catching 1-2’s on the outside in a shell ever? It’s been a minute. He uses the ultra high (monster high) guard to catch 1-2’s and to test distance almost exclusively. I sorta remember him catching center ring straights in a real Detroit Rock/ Kronk/ (man FOH Philly😂 jk jk I play) shell against Judah. But, yeah man, he got a couple of KO’s with the right hand but, the memorable ones are the lead check usually in his opponents corner or, 4-5 feet away from the center ropes. Man is still the defensive 🐐at the very least.

Philly shell is good for imo situation to adapt. I mean being able to step out range a lil during and exchange that your loosing, its smart to use philly shell with other tools to adapt to the change of pace and your opponents pattern. I do like philly shell but I dot because it does leave you open if your timing isn't on point or your legs aren't Sharpe. I believe to excute the philly shell correctly you have to master both stances and your footwork has to be like elitle.

They never want to show the Philly Shell as a Southpaw.
@discowolf25
@discowolf25 Жыл бұрын
Ahahahahahahaa I feel you. I had to learn the shell as a southpaw just cuz my body is not proportional at all. I’m 6’3 have a 6’7 reach… 3” of that just comes from my long ass hands. My liver was getting murked when I first started sparring (this is 11-12 year’s ago for context). Once I figured out constant lead foot control, how to probe with my rear hand, and how too throw a proper check hook… I’ll be honest I had no need for it. If you’re ahead on points and your coach specifically tells you that and, you’ve gassed your opponent… whatever, shell up- you’ll look dope. Otherwise- I think there’s just too many downsides if you’re lead hand comes up or, down, the wrong way against an experienced (usually outside) orthodox fighter. But, hey Wtf do I know? I’m just some dude on the internet so- do your thing fam. 👊🫡✌️

I think Mayweather's balance is what really made the shell work for him. He could move, lean, pull back, and he always kept his balance. Even if you hit him, he never seemed to wobble or stumble. On the opposite end of the spectrum you have someone like Naseem Hamed, who was constantly throwing his own balance off with his wild dodging. He got hurt bad, and often. He just had enough power to equalize it most of the time.
