Good morning Coach Bob! Family Reunions. Unfortunately reunions are revolving around weddings and funerals. Our family was always together when we were kids. Then we lost it. We had our first reunion around my grandfathers funeral in ‘89. We all talked and said we need to get together more. It took 4 years to get the first reunion together in ‘93. Since then we have had a family reunion every 2 years and someone in the family will organize the reunion. We have been all over the country, and have watched the family grow and shrink just about every two years. 2024 the reunion will be in Missouri and have about 25+ family members coming, from the age of 4 to mid 80’s. Sorry this is so long. Have a great day!

I drive around for work and it's always interesting to get that, "I've been there!", feeling watching you roll along. Glad you've gotten a chance to see how crazy smooth the newer RTs have gotten. (Driving/feeling bumps) That may get mixed opinions from some, but it's undoubtedly a comfortable ride.

We have a '21 C2Sky and we averaged 30 MPG on 3800 mile western trip. One big thing we've noticed over the overall experience of ownership is, it took about 7,000 miles for the bike to "loosen up". Overall the bike has been a great touring experience. Thank you for all your videos. We have learned a great deal from you while researching before our purchase. Blessings to you, Coach Vic and your entire family. Happy Motoring!!!

Great video. I have a 2022 RT Limited. I got back this week from riding to Zanesville, OH from NH. I met 5 of my friends on Long Island and we went from there. They all ride Indians. I agree with you totally that his is an awesome motorcycle for touring. We did 575 miles the first day to OH. Over the 9 days I put 2,178 miles on my Spyder. I had an awesome time. Lots of riding in the Zanesville area including the Triple Nickel. Only one day of rain in which we didn't ride. I averaged 32 mpg for the trip. My bike handled really well in the twists and turns. Excellent on the highway. I hit 85 mph a few times. It was a very comfortable ride overall. The heated grips and seat were much appreciated when we started the ride home in 33 degree weather. I agree with you that the brakes are excellent. Coach Bob, keep making great videos!

My wife and I have been married for 20 years and we've never owned a motorcycle. However, we're considering one of these to put inside of a toy hauler to do full-time camping and retirement. I think it will be awesome. We won't have to use the tow truck on every trip and it will provide a unique experience for touring beautiful locations. Thanks for the video.

Love your reviews. Learned about your channel when Shawn Smoke went to the BRP preview. We’re a three Spyder family, daughter’s a 2016 F3 Sport with added GIVI trunk, wife is a 2020 F3 Limited and I have a 2021 F3 limited. Running here in WA state on ethanol free premium we average about 40 mpg in the summer time at speeds below 70 mph and on corn we average about 35 mph. On a recent trip from WA to WY on corn we averaged about 33 mpg sticking to the speed limit. When I tow our 300 lb trailer, (that’s fully loaded weight) my milage on corn drops to about 30.5 mpg on 60 mph roads. Roads, loads and type of fuel make a big difference in milage LOL. Love your sharing of life wisdom. Keep up the good work.

Great video Coach! I would have so much to write about touring on my 2022 Sea-to-Sky! The more I ride, the more I discover (that's why I called it Discovery). My sweet spot touring speed is 105km/h or 65mph; I am comfortable, I don't need the Vulcan death grip on the handles (yes they do vibrate lightly, you are correct!) and I get excellent mileage always averaging in the 6-6.5L/100km or 32-35mpg. The brakes and handling actually prevented my wife and I from hitting a deer that decided he wanted to run across the road in broad daylight; I installed those deer whistles the next day! I could write more about the wind, the rain and the cold because it is a great touring motorcycle. And if you like those heated grips, you are going to love the heated seats when you get that Sea-to-Sky for Coach Vic 😉. Cheers Coach!

Nicely done. I have a 12 RT 998. One thing about the fuel economy is the Spyder is a sheet of plywood going through the air. RPM affects the mileage but the speed does it more. If you want a side by side comparison ride at 70 with the windshield all the way down for a few hundred miles and the do the same with it all the way up. I lose almost 2 mpg all the way up. Once again, great video! Be safe out there!

I started with a 2018 RTL. I loved it except for my feet position. I need to be able to move my feet and I found when riding by the time I needed to fill I was getting leg cramps. Try the breaking with your right leg cramped! When I took it in for my first service they had a 21 Seater To Sky in the show room. Never wander around a showroom while your bike is in for service! I went home with the Sea To Sky and have only modified it so far by having the lighted floorboards put on with my first service. I have absolutely no problem with leg cramping with those floorboards lighted or not. The seat is very comfortable. I believe I could do more miles in a day on that than in my Tacoma. Never sorry I made the change and am loving my Spyder

Hi Bob, you're excellent-as-usual video has encouraged me to perhaps expedite my upgrading to a 2020+ RT ltd from my 2014 Rt ltd, specifically for the improved braking feature. I hit a deer for the first time in my 53 years of driving, while cruising in my pickup truck this past fall, and the experience has got me looking to maximize features to help me survive my motorcycle passion. However, driving at just under 60 mph at 7pm, I really had no chance to avoid the damn animal, so speed was the main factor beyond brakes. Anyway, moving on, it seems the main disadvantage of any trike, certainly my 2014 RT, is the way it dips left and right on badly rutted roads, the kind we often endure in backwoods Ontario Canada. This is a major characteristic that I must be tolerate versus my previous 2 wheel, 2001 Goldwing. I had to stiffen the torsion bars on the front suspension of my Spyder to eliminate the unsettling dipping on tight corners but did not reduce the rut dipping very much. In this regard, I hope this is less of a problem on the new RTs somehow. (Any comment on this would be interesting.) Anyway, everyone should know, as you rightly stated, Coach, the RTs are the best touring bikes and for me, it's simply because one can spend more time looking at the world rather than fixating on the road all the time. When something is to be seen, stopping and turning around to check it out is no problem, parking basically a piece of cake, and getting off and on is so easy. You are almost encouraged to check out overviews, tourist sites and even crappy backwood gravel roads just in case they lead to something special. Gassing up, loading up a rider or pulling a trailer is a breeze! If one needs to stop, just pound the brake. No need to dangerously fumble while gearing down in emergency stopping. Finally, and best of all, for me, I appreciate pulling up to a drive-through for a fine cup of coffee, soooo satisfying! In conclusion, although I do miss the Goldwing a bit for the cornering and somewhat smoother ride, I can't let go of my Spyder, because touring is my priority. Sooner than later, I intend to tour the west again, this time on my RT, and maybe pass through some of the southern States that you, Coach Bob, love so much! Happy riding people! ( Btw, I hope this comment identifies me as Albert, and not my wifes name, lol!)

Your tip about lining up obstacle with knee is spot on! I was wondering if you have tried an F3 versus a RT. Some point in the future I might go with an F3 limited if my wife ever wants to ride her own. I have heard on Can-Am groups they are way different. I know for “2-up” the RT is far superior simply off size of the seat.

I've only tested an RT on the day I bought the F3. I thought the RT was going to throw me off on the turns! I love my F3. I feel much more planted. I've had it to a Rally already and ridden up the Interstates at 80 mph. It handles fantastic! I've had mostly two wheels in the past with a couple of traditional 3 wheels thrown in. The CanAm is the most fun and I'm so glad I bought it. The only gripe I have, and I don't know if this is common, but I ordered short-reach handlebars when I bought the F3 and they're still on backorder. Just wondering if this is going to be typical of CanAm??

Yes I do agree about have regular family get togethers when ever it’s possible! My Spyder(2022 RT ltd) is pretty thirsty on gas, but I do ride it in sport mode most of the time, plus have the throttle response commander on sport too. Find the gas tank calculator a little bit iffy to telling you when it’s needing feeding. Plus haven’t checked in the settings to see what I’m actually getting. Other than changing out the sway bar & end links, the ride is awesome! FYI the snow hasn’t hit yet, but expecting it in the next few days! Guess that’s our riding done for the year until the spring! Hi Bob, I love watching the distance touring vlogs. That skyline looked amazing early on in the ride. I too like Donald Fagen, AJ, Maxine, New Fonter to name a few. You mentioned the tyre pressures but I was wandering what to do in the event of a flat? I suppose you could always use one of those kits to bore out the hole and glue plug it or maybe tyre weld through the valve as a temporary fix solution? The RT is obviously the ultimate cruiser model, keep up the good work. 🙂

When I bought the Trepidation (you might remember that she is a '21 RT limited), the salesman at Seminole Powersport cautioned me not to use the ECO mode as I wouldn't have the umph if I found myself needing to get around something quickly. Once I got used to her, of course I had to try the ECO. I can't feel the difference. I feel like I still have all of the umph I could need. (30-32 MPH when spending a full day on the interstate) Have you had the time yet to try with and without ECO on the new machine? In Green County New York, it is pronounced "Kay roe". In the rest of New York, it is "Kie roe".

Mpg on my '20 RTL improved as total mileage approached 7k miles. Think it was just getting broken in. And besides CB3, I regularly watch Shawn Smoak. He says never use ECO mode. He can tell immediately upon changing oil if a Spyder has been run in ECO. Oil is dirty and smells. Eco mode has the engine running inefficiently. It was installed as a may to satisfy some government mandate.

TPMS would really be nice to have standard on the Spyder, but like anything else, it's additional cost. There are aftermarket options. Front tires are easy to check manually, but that rear tire is a challenge. I use FOBO 2 TPMS (both bikes and my trailer), it's just so convenient, but a little pricey, though. I love riding at sunrise 😊

Hi Coach Bob. Loved the video. So, what is it about the breaking difference between the '19 and the '23? Bigger rotors or are the rotors the same? 4 piston calibers on the '23 or are they 2 piston? Glad you made it back safe and sound.
@CoachBob3
@CoachBob3 Жыл бұрын
Good question! From all of my research the old ones are also 4 piston... I think the changes are more related to the changes made in the center of gravity on the newer Spyder. The way it stops just feels so different to me. Whatever the engineers did...I salute them. Thanks for watching. I hope you're doing well.

Hi Bob. I thought long and hard about asking this ' I didn't want to open a can of worms. When you fill up, do you stop at the first click, fill to the brim, and you can see fuel at the top, or somewhere in between? I have just picked up a 2020 RT LTD and love it, but the fuel guage is a bit weird, as it never shows full. I value your opinion on this as an experienced rider and Spyder owner. Thanks. Steve in Australia 🇦🇺 Loved the video. Very informative. Glad you finished it at midnight as that was about the time I viewed it 😊

I fill the Spyder, as with all of my motorcycles, to the point that I see the fuel pushing through the base of the metal filler ring. If it sinks after, I release the handle, and give it another little squirt. That way I know I have a full tank. In California they have these spring loaded rings on the pump handles that I would have to pull back with my hand to see how much gas I had. Had I not done this, I believe I would have been a half gallon short on every tank. When you're on the road... every drop counts. Especially in vehicles that, in relation to cars, have a very short range. I am an open book...You can ask anything you like. I appreciate your question and your engagement in the channel. Thanks for watching. 👍👍👍👍

So how do the RT's handle smaller winding roads/mountains/ hilly roads? I'm asking as I'm in the UK and I'm thinking of selling my BMW R1200GS, as I think two up it's just getting a bit too much for me as stops and low speed. (Also it will be an earlier model due to the costs in the UK so can you suggest a year or just the newest that's affordable)
@CoachBob3
@CoachBob3 Жыл бұрын
On the narrower back country lanes here in the States the Spyder does very well and is quite capable/comfortable. I understand the pain of the newer models being quite a bit more costly. I would suggest a 2014 model or newer due to the 1330cc triple Rotax engine. BRP is still utilizing the same engine, so parts costs and accessibility might be a tad better. That said....The R1200GS is a fine machine. 👍👍👍👍👍 I know that will be a tuff one to let go of. Thanks for watching and commenting.

What's the chance you have a 1/2 lb to 2 lbs front tire pressure OR weight balance difference? I come from Italian car background, and bikes too for that matter. 2 lbs air pressure caused the shimmy in my Alfas of the 70's & 80's. Can't afford the new models. Only have 1000 miles on my '23 RT Ltd so haven't checked. With your experience, I'd check wheel balance too. Bet that is where the shimmy comes in.

Well coach I went from a 2020 F3 limited to a 2023 RT limited back in August. I was a bit shocked at the drop of m.p.g. between the two. On the F3 I typically ran 40-44 mpg where running the same roads with the 2023 RT I am in the 32-34 mpg range. Big drop, but then looking at the front of the RT it doesn't look nearly streamlined as the F3 is. I ride for the heck of it so I am not so concerned about the mpg. I was surprised the RT would let you raise the windshield at higher speeds. Mine will only let you raise or lower at very low speeds.

How do you compare the riding difference between the F3 and the RT? I have an RT now but may go with an F3 in the future.
@timwirebjer5813
@timwirebjer5813 Жыл бұрын
I think I liked driving the F3 limited more than the RT, but not a "bunch". I felt like I was sitting in the F3 and the RT feels like I am sitting on top of it. Keep in mind I'm only 5'6", so this might make a difference. I purchased the RT with the mrs. in mind because the passenger part of the seat works nicer for her. The actual handling of the two bikes are nearly identical. I would suggest driving each one for a bit of time before dropping a bunch of money "just changing" models. The panels come off the RT easier to do oil changes on, which I like. Plenty of smiles per mile. I@@jfbjr81

A very interesting observation on the windshield operation. I did not have this RT limit my ability to raise or lower it. Also, that big surface plowing through the wind definitely is going to cut our mileage. Thanks for sharing this data, it's very helpful. 👍👍👍

@@timwirebjer5813 good info. Thanks! I’m 5’8 and that is the only real difference between them is the sitting “on” versus “in”. That’s the main thing that had me with an RT is the passenger seat is better. Does the F3 perform any different (faster acceleration?).
@timwirebjer5813
@timwirebjer5813 Жыл бұрын
It felt like the F3 was a bit quicker, but when I leave my subdivision there is a speed limit sign that from a dead stop to 50 mph I am at that sign, both with the F3 and RT. So actually no, the speed or quickness is the same. They both had the 1330 straight line 3 cylinder engine by rotax. And the RPM's run identical to m.p.h. on both bikes. Almost 2 m.p.h. per 100 rpms in high gear. So at 3000 rpm I'm running around 60 mph. I do wonder if it felt a bit quicker because of a little bit more airflow with the shorter windshield. @@jfbjr81
