The fact is we are only a half good team - the offense. Cam Ward and an immensely talented offense won the 10 games in spite of the inept defense. That of course raises the operative question - why was our defense so inept? I think the answer is clear - poor coaching. I understand Emory has only started two games but he looked like a deer in the headlights tonight - albeit he had to step in for the best quarterback in the nation. This is a classic example of why you need a quarterback that has mobility. Regarding Cam, the only thing that might exceed his athleticism is his strength of character. It was a honor and privilege to watch him perform his magic this year.

When the majority of your best and most experienced defensive players are transfers brought in this year and last and you’re relying on players like Harris, Richard, Hill in the secondary that’s a personnel issue. Foundational guys like Kiko, Wesley, Porter and Bain had some rough/quiet games for different reasons. Not to absolve Guidry at all but the D wasn’t as talented as we thought and when play fell off in the front seven, it made a weak secondary look even worse. Arguably the most talented DB (Damari) was hurt the entire season and the most consistent performer was a true freshman who took his lumps in the biggest game.

Miami opens with Notre Dame and Florida. Williams faced a tough pass defense, but it is obvious watching Cam play doesn't equal success. 5 - 14, 26 yards? Since there isn't another Cam out there available, this is a 4 - 5 loss team next year. SMU and Syracuse on the schedule. Unless the defense is completely revamped (new coordinator). New DC, we can win 8 games. Strong running game, offensive line. That's all we have right now.

Syracuse is a very good football team, way better than most in the Miami fanbase cares to admit. GT is a very, very scrappy team, just ask Georgia. We lost this bowl game because Cam quit after the record and Restrepo quit. Even with our atrocious defense, we would have scored another TD or two with those guys playing and fully committed.

That game was lost by the Miami HC. He should have let Iowa St. score fast. They were 1st and goal at the 2 yrd line. They would have had about 2 mins to go 40 yrds and kick a winning field goal. They ran out of time. It's just no situation awareness by the Miami coaching staff.

Bowl games outside the playoffs are nfl preseason games now even if ward didn't play at all no problem our problem has been defense all year scored 31pts in the 1st half w/o the 3 top wr's during the season and was only up 3 the defense was horrible basically all season

They didn't, Syracuse won. Everyone else is weak. Miami blew a chance to be ranked in the top 10. Cam should have played the entire game, and Restrepo had no business sitting out. Sanders and Hunter played in their game, McCord played the entire game for Syracuse. It comes down to honor, pride, and integrity.
