I am 51 and still playing as a goalie and trying to improve. Your videos are inspiring, keep grinding !!!

Awesome! Lately I have been meeting more and more 50+ goalies, I just realized one of the goalies that kept beating me in drop in is 54!

This is really great! I just turned 40 and I played goalie from age 9-21 and want to get back into it. After I lose about 30 lbs I'll definitely look into getting coaching. I always had the same issue with always getting up on my left leg. Learning butterfly slides would be cool too. I feel like if I make a save in the butterfly, my recovery is much slower than the guys who learned how to play that are in their 20's.

Welcome to the 40 club and super stoked to hear you getting back into goaltending. I'm not a nutritionist or like to give out food advice, but I recently lost about 15lbs just from minimizing meat intake (not super super strict but just don't make it at home anymore) over a period of 4 months. Good luck on your journey and let us know when you hit the ice!

I started playing hockey in general 4yrs ago and was drawn immediately to goalie. I turn 46 this year. After a few months of playing the position, I got a goalie coach and the best decision I ever made. I know it's tough in the beginning, but keep with it, you will definitely see the improvements.

Awesome to see another late bloomer! I’m really enjoying the coaching sessions. I am however definitely noticing I need lots and lots of skating practice in my own time also

If your having problems with c-cuts still just remember, more pressure on your heel gets you a good forward c-cut and more pressure on the ball of your foot will get you going backwards. If your stance is correct you never have to worry about balance issues.

Thanks for the tips! I’ll be heading to skates to work on this.

Hey, you definetly have a good start. Lowering your stance will get you more power to the cut. Start the push with skate blade at least 70 degree angle and remember that it is push and pull, pull being as much important than the push. When you have do the cut it is important to bring legs together before starting another cut. Keep your head leveled all the time, avoid upper body pumping up and down. If you feel that you can't get enough power to the pull part, you could hit the gym few times and work (i don't have an idea what it is called) but the inner tigh muscles that brings legs together. :D Keep up the good work and greetings from Finland.

Thanks for the advice! You’re totally right I had a hard time doing the pull movement and have been working on strengthening that. My c cuts are finally getting better now that I realize I need to pull inwards. Keeping low and not bobbing up and down is still tricky but one step at a time!

There was something really satisfying about that armpit/shoulder catch in that first shooting drill, looked like a pro on that one!

Hah was early in the drills before my legs went to jello. Nice Artstation btw, we both have similar professions!

I tried doing the reverse glove on the post for a little while, what I did notice is that if a puck hits the back of your hand at any speed it's really going to sting. You can do a similar movement while keeping the padded part of your glove facing outwards

Being a south paw. I find the right leg is completely useless. Lol. I naturally like getting up with left leg first.

People seem to think goalie is for people who can’t skate, but as someone who is getting into the goalie position after being a player for a while, I’ve discovered that you need much higher skill at skating just to do the basics like you’re seeing.

There have been so many times I tell someone I play goalie and their response is “oh well you just stand there you don’t need to skate” is infuriating!
