You are so correct! I have stressing this with my players this season and those that buy in are experiencing great results. Return and volley is crucial to winning more doubles points.

Okay what about blocking the backhand return Cross Court with underspin? Our college player used topspin, but I know my topspin BH return isn't good enough to do what he did...

Thanks for the tips. Wonder would that be any difference if one of the partners is a relatively weaker net player?

Hi coach, thank you for this effective strategy. What is the option for the server to hit the last shot instead of blasting it out?

At the rec level that approach volley is a pretty low % play imo. It will mostly go into the net or sit up and get blasted at the net players.

that is the highest percentage play to go with the volley. It is over the lowest part of the net, away from the other net player and into the open court. That volley he hit is very difficult to hit unfortunately it takes a great deal of skill to take the pace of a ball like that and control it. But if you beat the server to the net like he said you will win the point at least 70% of the time. The onus is on the baseline team to go through the net team; not an easy task. They have to hit up you get to hit down for the most part it is purely percentages and they are always in your favor when you are at the net. This guy has some of the best videos that anyone can understand. Sometimes the techniques are too advanced for a lot of his viewers but he is all about the percentages and that is how you win at doubles.

Dennis Van der Meer, the famous couch from Hilton Head, said "the first two players in doubles that come to the net and start volleying win 66% of the points". If they lob you, WHO CARES. You are a winner and they lose. Percentage Tennis
