Come along for Part 2 of the Private Coal Mine Exploration being given by the UGM crew at the Lansford #9 Mine. In Part 2 we continue on with our tour through the mine and then everyone was given the opportunity to climb a vertical shaft to the surface to see what it would be like to exit a mine through an escape shaft. Later many of us were allowed to operated the Electric Mine Locomotive in and out of the mine. Lastly for some bonus footage, I head up to the top of the mountain to see ruins and the head frame for the elevator shaft.

The coal mines are so interesting. My mom's father was a breaker boy then guarded the Pentagon during WW2(lucky but important assignment). He had black lung to some extent, though he lived a long life and that wasn't what killed him. (Other grandfather was in the navy during WW2.). Thanks Jay, I hope you are feeling a lot better.

This was so awesome! I would love to do one of these tours. I absolutely love learning about mining since my grandfather, my great grandfathers and great uncles on my mommas side were all miners. Totally enjoyed this. I wish to God my mom was still alive to see these videos. She would have loved them.

Amazing visit to the underworld, sobering. I was anxious about the low clearance and those scary roof bolts! My heart goes out to all the laborers who risked life & limb to keep the lights on.

Did most of the track haulage/ travel for my first 29 years of underground mining at the now closed Dome Gold mine (after 105 yrs of operation), in Timmins ON. Canada. Then finishing after 43 years total underground mining at the Kidd Creek base metal mine and finally at the Hoyle Pond gold mine as a scoop tram operator...also in Timmins ON....I miss it all to this very day!!!

Love the tour. If it had been a REAL emergency you would have made it all the way up the escape ladder so dont feel bad. It looks so cold and dreary and scary underground. I know those miners had to hope they made it out every day they went in. A stressful job for sure.

You may not have completed the climb of the escape tunnel ladder but despite your fear of heights you at least tried and that is what matters. It took courage to try and overcome the fear you felt and immense smarts to know your limits. Your were very smart also to stop and climb back down when you knew the fear was overcoming you.

What a fantastic tour though, very informative and hands on. Very cool that they left the old headframe standing, those sheave wheels were massive. This and part 1 was so cool and really informative. Only coal mine I've ever been in was Old Ben No. 17 at the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago which is a really cool exhibit. You did great going up the ladder. Didn't matter if you couldn't go all the way. We still got to see the cool stuff up top later. I couldn't have done it. Not afraid of heights but my arthritic hands and weak arms couldn't handle it. Thanks for taking us along. Always so nice to visit places I will probably never go to.

I am afraid of heights, but that wouldn't bother me. I would be too interested in the coal and how the place looks. My biggest problem would be , I'm only 5 ft. and my legs are short. I have problems going over rocks and trees that fall on trails. The mine was really neat.

Great video, a lot of people don't realize that coal is needed to make steel, how many things were built in the United States with steel. The mine looks interesting and scary at the same time.
