Handy little tool. Watching you forge it i was thinking you were just going to forge loop and pull the rag through and knot it on the back side.

There it is! The wet rag thingy :) who would have thought 6 months after you filmed this it would get so many questions

My fires are always huge. I designed my forge so I can have just a couple of inches of air, or air coming out the entire length of my fire pot(even though mine is more of a fire trough). One of these will help when I want a small fire. Keep up the great stuff Roy! Define Your Legacy.

I like this video, cool tool for fire control. My fires are usually pretty large also and for now I am using anthrosite on account I do not have a chimney on my forge but I do have about 20 yards of bitumus when I get to building a better coal forge.thanks as always for the info packed videos,God Bless you and yours from mine, Martin

Great video! I had thought about using water to maintain my fire but decided against it because of the fire pot. This is a great alternative. Thanks for the info Roy.

I made my firepot out of mild, but I think ill still make this instead of a dipper, though might add a ladle latter but more for cooling metal.

Another good video. Would I use the same process for a coke fire as I do not use raw coal?
@ChristCenteredIronworks7 жыл бұрын
Paul Wharton yes you would if it requires it :-) Thanks for watching

years ago I worked with a smith that used a dipper can with holes in the bottom of the dipper can.. he used it as a sprinkler...
@DulishusWaffle7 жыл бұрын
If you're gonna use a dripper can, don't pour from the top of the can. Use a can with small holes poked in the bottom so it just dribbles a little bit! Or just use a rag, yeah.

Is your quench water as nasty as your oil? Lol I was lucky enough to be able to come across a zulty 1902 Trenton 100 pound Anvil for my first one

wouldn't leather be a good material for the swab?
@ChristCenteredIronworks7 жыл бұрын
Brian R yes it could be as long as it is soft leather like suede. thanks for watching.
