I think the question to rather ask is "Could the A.N.C. survive another election". As a rate payer in Gauteng, I can tell you that this does not bode well for the province - This is a victory not against the D.A. (who will play an effective role in opposition), but against the Gauteng voters who clearly voted for better governance and service delivery (i.e. by the DA who have proven results in the W-Cape) in this province and not the disaster that has taken place under Lesufi's watch thus far (to which I have had direct experience). Don't expect the corrupters to root-out corruption. Not one person has been convicted following the Zondo commission's findings. Talk is cheap, and time will tell, but I'm not optimistic. The IFP had 34 250 people who voted for them and got 1 MEC. The DA had 1 079 400 people who voted for them and get 3 MEC positions. The Gauteng ANC are exactly what the MK and EFF warned us about. What a load of rubbish! You have extrapolated today's events as a case to parachute Panyaza to the presidency in the backdrop of a Gauteng electorate that resoundingly rejected him and his party. Today's events of the ANC wanting over 8/11 seats in the cabinet (~73% which includes the premiership), whilst only having a ~34% mandate may in the short-term gather praise from ANC masses, but in the long-run would just morph into an unstable government - which sounds like short-sighted political game strategy. I don't think your point on long-term instability for this province holds, rather on national level where the anc failed and brought in the power mongers - da, who demonstrated to want to share the power with the anc by locking out other parties on basis of consultation just because they're easily adding up to 60% with the anc, and by this lockout trying to keep the anc not finding partners that can make them easily or by consensus reach 51%. 2ndly, this scenario creates opportunities for Lesufi and gauteng anc to renegotiate issues with MK and EFF in parliament to lock away DA for good - especially it is easy for anc, mk and eff to find one another, and these results also put pressure to Lesufi and gauteng anc to lean towards serving the peoples interests, as best and well represented altogether by anc, mk, eff and actionsa - all of which read well over time and currently gotten gatvol by da's supremacist bullying.
