It's funny that the man that you are least "impressed" with can seamlessly rap in 2 different languages and is now producing the background sound that you hear which is an immense talent on its own. 🤔

@@BiggMicc1029 I enjoyed Rio over Eric on Scenario and over Taj on Breathe and Stop. Maybe you or Boyd didn't, but plenty others did. That's the point. My bias doesn't take away from the fact that Eric and Taj were also superb on their verses. They all perform at such a high level that its silly to me to equate one's "place" with them not being impressive or not belonging in the collective. I think that's the problem many have with some of the commentary on Rio. It sounds like some are saying Rio isn't good simply because he's not their consistent favorite which couldn't be further from the truth or fair. Coast Contra's success is based on many elements. Rio offers international appeal and a gritty realness which is also part of hip hop culture and which the others don't have. His voice brings texture to their freestyles. And when many started doubting whether this group could rap off their own beats, Rio came through with the producer skillset. Eric brings charisma and performance. Ras brings unmatched flows. Taj brings swag and cadence. They all deserve equal respect for what each uniquely brings to the table over and above lyricism. Depending on the freestyle or song, they tend to take turns in placement order on who is the standout. ❤

True hip hop, it is what it is. Not for the new comers or people who don't understand lyricism. Side note, Rio (the one who went third) produced the beat. I think they are a collective mind of genius lyrical entities. They are great as them selves but unmatched as a unit. Much love to CC! Love the reaction!

{SIGH} If we're still discussing how someone should "go solo" or "doesn't belong" in Coast then the point Eric made in his verse went entirely over our heads. Coast would not be as strong if ANY member were missing, in their opinion. And I agree. Nor do I believe any single member would rise to the level of excellence they now demonstrate together if choosing to go solo. Knowing their backstory and how these men came up together to make one another better will change your perspective. And btw, Rio produced the dope beat on this track which is another skillset Coast needs--especially since so many were doubting whether they could rap on their own beats. Mr. Boyd needs to give Rio much more love! They each add something unique that the others don't have and work together like the infinity stones in Thanos' glove to form an unbeatable superpower. Everyone naturally has their favorite member based on what aspect of high level hip hop they most enjoy. I get that those who love doubles and triples until their brains explode are going to prefer Eric verses. But they all have proven they are lyrical and can scheme at a high level. For me, it's the skills they each bring outside of the lyricism that make each special in their own right. Ras is my overall favorite mainly because I'm about a sick flow (or in his case, 6 sick flows per verse, lol), but I still go crazy over Eric's charisma and performance, Rio's gritty realness and international flavor, and Taj's swaggy vibe and cadences. ALL of those components make up real hip hop to me, not just heavy wordplay. Coast is so popular because they perform like Hip Hop Avengers. It really depends on the freestyle or song who ends up using their infinity stone to perform as the stand out. That's why Eric did the double "E-GO solo". He's not going to mess his upward progression by letting his ego convince him he'd be as good alone as he is now feeding off the energy and skillset of his partners who have helped sharpen his skill and also kept him from giving up when no one knew him. Seeing this new school collective with an old school vibe is so refreshing because it takes us back to the era where unique collectives like Tribe Called Quest, Wutang Clan, and Leaders of the New School reigned supreme. Pretty sure no one thought of them as hip hop boy bands!!!

@@57kwest Not really competition within collectives. More so within collaborations. If Harry Mack and J Cole do a collab than naturally there is competition to come on top with the best verse. Coast is a collective. Everything they rap about promotes their unity not competition. @2020dre "Iron sharpening iron" is a biblical phrase and is not about comparing or competing but about the desire to inspire and support others in doing their best even as you do your best. Totally different motivation. I just don't recall many listening to Wutang and saying, "ODB really smoked Raekwon on that one!" 😉
