Winds, humidity and temps were all in normal ranges. And this was NOT a urban interface fire. What was it ? It was a grass fire that was not controlled and became a house fire not controlled and now 24 mansions are ashes. The chief was able to find the culprit. Low moisture levels. Aida from decada - are you kidding me ! There was a series of rain storms in the past 6 weeks. OC does face some serious and scary issues if the inland mountains ever catch fire with a Santa Ana blowing towards the coast and no VLATS or HELOS to help. If there are other big fires burning in Sept and Oct, they cannot just pull the red handle, and expect 2500 FF's to come to their aid. Orange county is likely flush with a mountain of cash based on soaring property taxes and values. They need to hire the best FF's, and buy some wildland equipment to fight these fires. Also, end the nepotism and stop hiring city trained chiefs to run departments that require a far greater skill set......or don't. I don't live in OC and those would be the leading reasons to avoid living there.

That is missing the point. The winds, temps and humidity were at normal levels. This was a small grass fire that was NOT controlled and spread to a house and that house fire was NOT contained. You have a Chief who was a city FF who showed he is clearly not the one you want in charge when the Santa Ana's begin picking up in Sept -Oct and humidity levels drop to single digits. Because if he cannot handle something like this, a Santa Ana wind is going to be a true nightmare with one spark. You cannot blame this on the urban interface. Orange County does have some seriously thick brush in the mountains 10-20 miles inland and if they generate a 5 mile fire front with a Santa Ana blowing towards the coast, there will be major issues. Those VLATS will not be flying nor the helos, due to the wind. That county is probably flush with money given the massive increase in property values and taxes, and they better hire some smart people in the FD and buy some equipment to use for a wildland fire, because they might not be able to ask for 2,000 helpers in Sept or October when the weather gets hot and people are busy elsewhere.

Wow this is really sad and crazy. I can’t believe how fast these homes went up as if it’s all old construction and there is literally nothing that has fire retardant built into the home not the roof not the windows not the doors not even protection for the vents to not let ambers in. I always was under the impression that after a certain size home it has to have a sprinkler system inside of it. Do you know what’s really sad is the cost of rebuilding those homes is gonna be probably double because they’re gonna want everything to be fire retardant on those homes eaves are going to have to be closed off roof is gonna have to have a 4 5 6 hour burn time before it catches on fire. And you know all our insurance rates are going up.
@opwave79
@opwave79 2 жыл бұрын
It’s mostly condos and apartments that have the sprinklers requirement. Not single family homes, regardless of square footage. Also most of those homes have tile roofs, but if embers get into roof vents or open windows, it will catch fire. Don’t forget the heat generated from nearby flames that will melt material and produce more embers. No home is completely fireproof. It’s more practical to make defensive space around homes and in the canyons than it is to make a “totally fireproof” house.
@techs1smh13
@techs1smh13 2 жыл бұрын
Also the heat from the fire will catch window treatments on fire through the glass and melt vinyl Windows you are pretty much screwed when wind is blowing that hard. You need metal security shutters on outside that you control to block off all windows and vents.

Your insurance rates have no need to go up and there are methods that could be used to provide home insurance for all US citizens while massively lowering the cost to all. You wanna hire a city trained FF to run your dept, without a background in wildland FF, you are missing the boat. The wind, humidity and temps were in normal range. Yet, the grass fire was not controlled nor the house fire, that became 24 house fires. OC is flush with money based on soaring property taxes. Hire the best FF'ers and chief and buy the type of equipment you need. And end the nepotism. This fire and the Feb 2002 fire near Santiago Peak, are worrying signs given what might develop in Sept - Oct with the Santa Ana's. Those winds are going to present much rough conditions in terms of wind and humidity. And when the Helos and VLAT's cannot fly based on the wind, and you cannot summon 2500 fire fighters by puling the 'big red handle', then what is the plan. Living in OC after seeing how the OCFA has handled fires, just this year, has to be a life of stress.

@@georgehorn1970 - 550 firefighters responded to this fire. And it still damaged or burned 31 homes. The Chief is blaming low moisture content in the fuel, meaning brush. What was the excuse when the Canyon Fire 1 became the Canyon Fire 2 - 36 hours - AFTER Canyon Fire 1 was put out. This was not a Santa Ana with hot dry winds blowing in from the desert. It was onshore winds that were normal, with normal humidity and temps. I guess if you cannot blame the bark beetle, you go with low moisture content , and them heap praise on your dept, when it was outsiders who did the heavy lifting and corralled this fire.

Don't worry. You'll end up paying for these homes(if you live here) Knowing how rich people operate, because this fire started at a water treatment plant, they will sue the city, guarantee they will win because they are rich and have connected high power attorneys, the city will pay 2 to 3 times their home value, money from us, the middle class tax payer. We will end up with the bill for this fire, not them. Keep an eye on this situation in the coming year or two.

🚨🐍🚨 An Ex lived in the area and had several homes. When we last touched, he was planning to leave medicine because of Medicare and other changes. I HOPE HE'S SCREWED OVER ROYALLY IF HE'S STILL TIES TO THE AREA. Another ex that lived somewhere south of Irvine got messed up being a sugar daddy. May the corrupting individuals LEAVE PLANET.

@@Kloutkulture Sincerely sorry for your loss! :( Also, I hope this helps… Please warn your neighbors. Unsure if the public can access the rubble, but I saw a strange post (almost intelligible due to Ebonics) saying they might loot/rummage through that place for anything valuable left in the debris overnight. I reported it so it would be taken down. Others were posting that they would join in. Whether it was a joke or not, it’s awful some people feel entitled to taking people’s stuff. Rich or not. Highly immoral.
