It's interesting that they put the wiring for the car charger on the right hand side of the garage. Teslas make up approx. 80% of electric vehicles, and they all charge at the left (driver's side) rear. Most other electric vehicles out there also charge from ports on the left side, or in a few cases, directly in the front. Seems like the builder would want the charger wiring on the left side of the garage, so that the charger cables could reach the charging ports?

They put charger wiring on both sides of the garage. They were primarily looking at the right side, but they did mention the owners have two EVs and therefore need two chargers.

The power grid is very stable in California. There was a time when it was atrocious, but after regulations, it got to a very stable level. Now, some areas in the wildland urban interface do get advanced shut offs, but that is to prevent or minimize fires. Also, batteries are not only used for back up only. Some electric plans have a time of use charges, so they can be a good way to use your backed up energy instead of getting scammed by the electric company during peak hours. Texas is a prime example of how scummy the electric rates can get during peak or emergency hours.

But hanging a piece of 48x96 cement board must be tough, but they sell it, so people use it. Seeing all the painted over nails on this install, is not good. Hardie factory painted is the way to go. Ya have to have Hardie installed by hardie experts, it matters. Mine was done perfectly by Hardie certified installers. It shows in the exact fits and cuts, and flashing perfection

@@kenbrown2808The Hardie panel has a similar look, with out the headaches. Hardie has instructions meant to be followed. For a reason. using the wrong cutting means, or not painting edge cuts on factory painted stuff, even primed. Not caulking where told not to caulk,using the wrong caulking, using the wrong flashing procedures, not using blocking for fixtures in plumbing and lighting. Carrying the 12ft pieces incorrectly, Not gaping joint properly. there are Hardie specs. It's not vinyl junk. If it doesn't take Hardie training, why are there only some listed installers on Hardie site, when others are not, yet when called they claim they can install. But not Hardie certified. there is a difference.

Most vent fans have replaceable motors all within the housing. You should never have to replace the entire unit even on an old home unless you’re changing the shape or size.

The nicer models are designed so the hoses and wires are hidden under abs through the toilet bowl. The cheaper ones just have exposed wires and hoses next to the toilet bowl.

Network should be separate from electrical, but also always seems to be done by the electrician rather than an IT Pro and low voltage wiring specialist (pulling CAT5E/6/6A is not the same as pulling Romex, gotta be gentle with it or it won't certify and therefore never run full speed 10Gbps or 40Gbps if CAT-6A up to 40m).

Cool stuff. BTW, I installed Boral fly ash siding on my home adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay about five years ago. Highly recommended, particularly so for humid environments. Really happy with it. Thanks for showing all the neat products....this is what I enjoy most about the channel. If you told me this house in Bodega Bay was $5 million+, I wouldn't be surprised. A bit beyond my budget, but I can pick and choose some of these things....like the trimless door openings...for my more modest ventures. Thanks Matt.

up the post, from the wall under it. and most likely they drilled down and through with a half inch auger, from the spot where the wire enters the box. though I've had a location I had to plow down a laminated post with a router and use 4 foot simpson straps for nailplates.

It's a waste of money and resources to install a protected loads panel. Your load panel can be both. All you need to do is not use anything you would not put in the protected panel. Can't resist turning on the hot tub during a blackout? Turn off the breaker for the hot tub.

What you're describing is a particular design flaw of those mud in receptacle boxes, not a problem with ALL mud in fixturing. Stop being melodramatic lol. Also if the builder specs these, then he can charge the drywallers for every fixture they destroy by being a monkey. You'd be amazed how quickly they'd rise to the occasion. If the guys you work with don't do ANY quality control then I feel for you.

I was fairly certain copper wire is recommended for house installs, it has better conductivity anyway. That is an ser cable feeding the sub panel. Has a bare ground that you can see if you look closely. Aluminum is a great conductor. No issue when used properly

@@sethrussell5649 Aluminum is a poor conductor compared to copper, at roughly 60%, which means that equivalent gauges will have far higher resistance & therefore heating in aluminum. There's a damn good reason why aluminum wire is illegal in many jurisdictions, because aluminum wiring overheating caused lots of house fires & deaths in the 1950s and 1960s. In a high-current circuit, such as an electric vehicle charger, using aluminum wire is idiotic.

9:50 this is called a standard metal corner bead by the builder used for the trimless door detail but it doesn’t have nail holes on 1 side. Is this really a L-trim with a deep leg to extend into the kerfed jamb? Also, what’s the purpose of the fiberglass tape between the drywall and corner bead?

The receptacles are for kitchen appliances, or hair dryers shavers ect in the bathroom. All receptacles within a certain distance of water sources or wet locations have to be GFCI protected. You may know it as RCD. I believe the code requirement comes from people using extension cords for bathroom and kitchen appliances near the sink and shocking themselves.

Don't know if you've ever been to Bodega Bay, but those cliffs are HIGH. If the water gets that high, Oakland and the lower parts of SF are already under water, and the world as we know it is over. Also, this is obviously not a cost-sensitive owner, so if the poop really hits the fan, they'd probably just be headed off to their similarly-well-appointed mountain home in Idaho or Wyoming by helicopter or whatever.
