Thanks, rlly helpful My notes from this video- Coastal landscapes Waves: constructive- longer wave length, powerful swash therefore this constructs the beaches and deposits materials destructive-shorter wave length, powerful backwash (weak swash) therefore, materials are dragged into the sea therefore eroding the coast Weathering and erosion Weathering is the breaking down of rocks on earths surface whereas erosion is the breaking down of rocks by the moving sea there are 3 types of weathering Mechanical- when rocks are broken down by processes like freeze-thaw weathering biological-action of plants and animals (tree roots) causing the rock to split apart. chemical- rocks reacting to chemical reactions (acidic rain Overall, these can lead to mass movement (downward movement of sliding of a material) Examples - slumping, where river erodes the bottom of valley slope,making it steeper. material above slides downwards, particularly is saturated - sliding, where rocks, weathered or eroded material or earth moves down a slope. Gravity pulls the weekend material quickly downwards Erosion- breaking down of the base of rock on the cliffs, hydraulic action- impacts of water again the coastline Abrasion- rocks and pebbles carried by waves Solution-chemical action of seawater which dissolves some rocks Attrition- rocks rubbed together to form ambler peaces Transportation- where rocks are tranported Traction- larger boulders of rocks rolled over the sea bed Suspension- sand ad small particles are carried along in the flow Solution-chemical action of seawater which dissolves some rocks Saltation-Smaller stones are bounced along the sea bed Longshore drift. Deposition-finally deposited where could be forming spits and bars erosional landforms- arch- formed by 2 caves erode back from either sides of headland and meet in the middle Cave- formed when the waves erode a weakness in the rocks such as joint or fault Stack- formed when arch collapses stumps- eroded stacks Depositional landforms- beaches spits bars
