This is one of the more terrifying extractions I've seen. Taipan are squirrely little buggers & they're slender and athletic enough to surprise you sometimes.

Yep. They move back to being the 4th most venomous snake on the planet, now the fairly recently discovered Western Desert, sometimes called the Central Ranges, Taipan, has finally been analysed and rated at number 3. The Coastal Taipan is just so long, strong and QUICK!

What does it mean "surprise you sometimes"? Pay more attentione to his right hand (forefinger). It is a small fee for his dangerous job. His left hand has a suspicious appearance. Sorry!

Incredible video as per usual!!!, nice and large, and very calm Coastals, mesmerisingly beautiful snakes. And as you mentioned, they have some reputation here in Oz, but for very good reason. Although no one has fell fowl to one this season yet(spring through summer is generally the active and breeding season). :)

I never really noticed how some Coastal Taipans have lighter coloration toward the front of the snake, somewhat like many Inland Taipans do. It goes to show how similar they are, just adapted for different environments.

There is another small group and that is the Western deserts Taipan. Some trivia for you, the Canni in the name of the Papuan Taipans comes from the Cann family. George & John Cann were well known for the snake shows they held most sundays at La Perouse in Sydney, as did their parents before them.

They're beautiful snakes. I remember when I lived up in Cooktown in Far North Queensland, walking down the main street early one morning and watching one cross the road about 20 metres in front of me. It was heading down to the river.

Thank you for the video, I like Robs comment on the sensible shoes. I also wear spats on the farm. I am coastal but have inland taipans on my property. I was going to dismiss it even though I had seen it, but the vet for my dogs said they are in this region of Bundaberg QLD.

I am Australian & the Coastal Taipan is from recollection No 3 on the top 10 deadliest snakes out there . No 2 is the Eastern Brown Snake & No 1 is the Inland Taipan. From memory on Venom alone we have the top 8 to top 10 deadliest snakes in the world . Our Tiger snake sits at No 8 . Not sure why the USA would want to have Taipan's over in ur neck of the woods 2 milk . And 4 the record, yes the Coastal Taipan will kill U . Not sure when the last fatality was . The Coastal Taipan thrives in our cane fields, lots of food . Just 4 good measure a Tiger Snake will kill U & its No 8 on the list . Obviously staying calm , correct bite bandaging & getting 2 a hospital 4 anti venom is crucial for all snakes .

People have pet Taipans in the United States and are at Serpentariums and Zoo's antivenin needs to be available in case someone is bitten. LD 50 numbers tell you the toxicity of the snakes venom all Taipans are capable of killing adult humans .
@alphacentauri8083
@alphacentauri8083 2 жыл бұрын
I read that the LD50 venom toxicity protocol data compiled using lab rats is not always reliable as it pertains to human envenomation; rats are not humans and vice versa. The coastal Taipan is indeed an "extremely dangerous" snake because of its venom, but a lot of herpetologists believe that tales about its highly aggressive and confrontational nature are exaggerated. That reputation is probably more of an apt description of the Mamba.
@andrewsmith8729
@andrewsmith8729 2 жыл бұрын
Do not believe everything you read........ most of these snake handlers in the bush have already spotted the snake........ if people do not spot it first before they get too close......... they will strike multiple times. I think you will find they do not dry bite and are 100% fatal without professional medical treatment........takes weeks to recover. They reckon the Papuan versions kills around 600 per year....... so I would be very wary about any claim they try to slither away rather than stand their ground.
@Mach1Greeble
@Mach1Greeble Жыл бұрын
I've seen plenty of them in the wild, and highly aggressive and confrontational is par for the course. Unless they have a clear out
@kyreptilezoo
@kyreptilezoo Жыл бұрын
The point that herpetologists, including us, want to make is that no snake strikes a person out of malice. It is out of defense, and its interpretation of a human's nearness as life-threatening. We avoid the word "aggressive" so that people won't misinterpret that to mean that the snake will make an effort to get to them to bite them.
@aussiecath
@aussiecath Жыл бұрын
@Greeble Yes everyone who lives in North Queensland rural areas seems to have witnessed it. Someone was telling me recently about a taipan chasing a car. I have relatives who are a family of 6 and most have been bitten. Most snakes even the venomous ones will run away unless you stand on them or are close to it. The Tiapan seems to be the exception.

0:50 3 possibilities come to my mind. to produce antivenom, to undertake medical research, or to commit a perfect murder in some overseas country where snakes are unknown, hence medical professionals would be completely lost as to what happened....hahaha. Cheers
