KCMO resident and real estate developer here. A lot of us real estate guys are very optimistic that Kansas City is on the edge of breaking out into a true secondary city, similar to what Nashville is currently doing now and Denver did the past decade. The future of this park is in the hands of the local people. If they want continued investments, they must show up when the company invests in the park. Fans can't wait on the large coasters either, but must show up for the new flats, the new kiddie additions, the new slides, and the new events. Carowinds and Canada's Wonderland are the best two examples of this in the chain. On the other hand Kings Dominion is an example of what happens when the response is lackluster.

For those who may not know: The garden/fountain area of Spinning Dragons used to be the pool for the dolphins back in the 70s/80s/90s. It was then used a a pool for a dive show. I was just in Kansas City on a big trip around the Midwest which included parks like worlds of fun and silver dollar city. Honestly I really don't see sfsl around in the next 20 years, like he said even CF lower tier parks look really good, can't say that about sf lower tier parks Herschland takes care of all of their parks as well as cedar fair does. Fortunately for SDC it's at a travel destination so they really have it made. KC isn't really a travel destination on anyone's list (at least not many) so if WoF was to do exactly what Carowinds did with the two coasters and hotel it might be the first step that KC needs to start coming up with things that put us on the map. Of course if CF actually does this honestly I have my doubts even with fifa coming but we'll just have to see. I would love to see all of that but to build all of that just for a event? Idk like I said it could be the push we need to become a destination but idk that's an awful lot of money they will be investing in to a lower tier park.

Also, since Mamba is the coaster that inspired Steel Dragon 2000, it'd be incredibly fitting for Worlds of Fun to get a giga in the Orient section exceeding Steel Dragon's speed, with a 200-foot wave turn overlooking Mamba's helix.

I'm certain that Kc will provide a massive turnout for the new Zambezi Zinger. Still seems like a huge longshot, but Spinning Dragons could be relocated behind Patriot and rethemed to open up a massive entry plaza for a giga. And if Worlds of Fun is going to award a new coaster the *Orient Express* moniker, it'll either have to be launched or extremely long and fast.

From looking at a map, they might be able to put a new orient express gigacoaster in what is currently the woodsy area between bamboozler, autobahn, and viking voyager. I don't see where else they could put it and have it still be in the orient section of the park unless maybe they put it above the spinning dragons next to the path from the parking lot to the entrance. It does seem like a longshot though to move spinning dragons. They may as well just remove it permanently considering it'd be over 20 years old at that point anyway.

Was skeptical of the idea that WOF will become the next Cedar Fair favorite but you did a good job explaining why and convincing me a little bit. There have been rumors of WOF getting another coaster in the next few years. With the World Cup having games at Arrowhead in 2026 this definitely makes a lot of sense and we have seen parks try to add or refurb things before major events come to town so it wouldn’t surprise me if Cedar Fair tries to capitalize on this opportunity.
@jeffc13472 жыл бұрын
Cedar Fairs investments over the past 15 have been driven straight up by demographics. Carowinds was fastest growing market in the country, getting it the most investment and a lot of corporate jobs moved over there because young professionals would rather live in Charlotte than Sandusky. Buying 2 water parks in Texas, the other fastest growing market in the country. Canada's Wonderland is that country's biggest market for a theme park by far and was underperforming before CF bought it. Cedar Point is their flagship park and as a destination park needs constant investment. CGA, even in a rich area the park was handicapped by its neighboring business (some of the most powerful companies in the world), low height limit, limited parking, and lack of room for expansion, so the real estate was more valuable than the business. Knotts needed investment in the experience because locals had believed it went downhill under Kinzel ownership and the business lagged because of it, before that it had always been the "other" park people went to for a day when visiting Disneyland and they were trying to restore it back to that. KI and KD needed investment because they are in more competitive markets as well and the parks were lagging under Kinzel. The rest of the parks didn't get crap because they had no financial incentive to. Its as simple as that.

They are not getting a giga. WOF attendance is noticeably less than KD & Carowinds, the lowest attendance CF parks to get gigas. And they certainly are not building a 30m giga coaster to pull in tourists from a once in a park lifetime sport event. I feel WOF was just the lucky lower tier park to go first (probably related to their upcoming anniversary) in what is an ongoing effort to refresh the lower tier parks. Those parks are do for a refresh that likely would have started in 2021 if not for the pandemic (RIP Dorney wooden shuttle). The lower tier parks don't get as much attention as enthusiasts want as their attendance and potential for growth just isn't there, but CF still will maintain them. And part of that maintaining is a new big ride every 10 years or so. So I suspect in the next five years Valley and Dorney will get new coasters (Michigan's is a harder maybe) and in the next 10 the 4 bottom tier parks will also get CGA hand me downs.

I have been thinking for the last couple years that Worlds of Fun should be the next logical park that Cedar Fair invests in. Unlike many of the other small parks like ValleyFair, WoF has so much space around it for them to expand as well as a lot of open space in the park that isn't currently in use. If they would do a gradual build up of this park, it could become one of the top tier parks in the chain as well. And this park really is lacking that true standout coaster

I don't see Worlds of Fun becoming a Top 5 Cedar Fair park. I visited the park this year and I enjoyed it, and it has a lot of room for growth, but the Kansas City market, while hosting the World Cup is not growing like the Charlotte market. Also Carowinds could be a year round park, while in Kansas City you will be limited with the weather. I see the potential for Worlds of Fun to be similar to a Kings Dominion type park in the chain. IT won't crack the Top 5 of Cedar Point, Carowinds, Kings Island, Knott's, and Canada's Wonderland, but it could join Kings Dominion in the next tier down. That would leave ValleyFair, Dorney, and Michigan's Adventure in the bottom tier. I can honestly see Carowinds as either 1 or 1A in Cedar Fair 25 years down the line. The area has that much potential.

A giga going in would have a hard time competing with Mamba's absolute dominance of the park's skyline. Simply because of where Mamba was built in the park literally sitting on the highest ground elevation there. With it being on the highest elevation it makes seem at least 50 feet higher off the ground than she really is. If you are riding the Mamba, when you get to the top you are almost equal in height with the flying saucer on top of Steel Hawk which is 301 feet tall.

I’ve been saying this for a while now! ZZ is a cheap coaster that tests the waters in KC to pave the way for future investment. WOF was a favorite child before the paramount parks purchase. We got 5 coasters in 10 years and a multitude of other investment. Dick Kinzel seemed to really love this park lol. WOF hasn’t been completely forgotten in the time afterwards either. They just kept getting flat ride and water park investment every year until the pandemic. They became lower priority, but still a priority. Now that the paramount parks have been pretty well invested in, WOFs status may be coming back. Plus with the continued growth of the KC area and more competition in the region, CF could really be getting ready to make WOF a marquee park in the Midwest.

I just hope that some other parks are going to get some stuff on par with a coaster equivalent to Zambezi zinger. I think dorney, michigains adventure, valley fair all need some new, modern family thrills in their lineup

To be fair, Carowinds did what they did because of how much growth in population has jumped over the past 20 years
@creativewriter2233 Жыл бұрын
They actually added to the backbreaker (the Boomerang, sorry). There is now a simple loop in the middle. I can't tell if it makes it better for it or just gives it the name my family gave it! Gets them every time but it's fun to ride for sure.

Now, I see your reasoning, however, I don't think it would be a B&M Giga. I don't see cedar fair dropping nearly 40 million for a Giga - I'm estimating that since Orion was estimated at 30 million - for a park that has a similar population pool as ValleyFair or Kings Dominion. However, I do think we could see that amount of investment over ‘25-27 in a few different projects. I'm imagining a new front entrance that moves all of the admin buildings away from the front entrance and an expanded “main-street” area. The picnic Pavilion to the right side would be a good place for their next coaster - 2028 to coined with the 55th, diamond anniversary, of the park. An expanded planet Snoopy area with a Vekoma family suspended coaster. A new Water slide structure in the water park. Lastly, in between the Immelmann of Patriot and the turnaround of Timber Wolf, a new flat ride area akin to Aeronautica at Carowinds or Route 55 at Valley Fair. I think this would be an excellent ten-year plan. With Silver Dollar City, Adventureland, Lost Island, and Six Flags St Louis all within five hours that is a lot of parks and possible residents that Worlds of Fun would have to compete with.

yes but Kings Dominion got a giga
@Suchatool982 жыл бұрын
@@commissionproductions yes, they did. However, I305 cost 25 million in 2010. That’s nearly 35 million if built today. Furry cost 30 million, or 37.5 million today. Both of these parks have a draw radius of nearly three million or more within an hour of each park. KC has barely 2.5 million in the metro. The math doesn’t add up. There is no financial gain for CF to put a Giga in. In a three-hour radius, 180 miles, of KC, there are about Six million people. A three-hour radius around Charlotte gives you 16 million. For KD a three-hour radius of Richmond gives you over 17 million. Both draw areas have nearly three times the amount of possible patrons. I consider KD and Carowinds to be mid-major parks. If ten years, I can see WofF being a mid-major. I can see Carrowind becoming a major park, like Cedar Point, KI, or Knots.
@commissionproductions2 жыл бұрын
@@Suchatool98 The reason they would put the giga in is to make it more like Carowinds, as he explained. I don't think CF will add a giga to WoF, unless they see a great opportunity with the World Cup coming and think it will drive millions to the park. I definitely think that we could see continued investment in the park throughout the decade, but I just don't see a giga. I agree with you on most of your points and my reply was mostly a joke. Have a great day 😁

So do you see Worlds of Fun will get the same treatment as the Carowinds and Cedar Point parks? I really love Carowinds when I went, and so I'm hoping Cedar Fair gives me a reason to go back as a coaster enthusiast!

My #1 complaint about WoF is that their business model has always been to only run 1 train on their big rides, which creates unnecessarily long wait times. I’m sure the idea is to keep people in the park longer to spend more money on food and other needless junk, but it keeps me from making the trek from St. Louis every year to visit this otherwise stellar and underrated park.

You need to come check out the Timberwolf, it runs really great now after the restoration!
@GargoyleDracula Жыл бұрын
Local ordinance(s) may prohibit more than one train being "out" on a ride at any time. King's Island runs 3 on their larger coasters, with generally two "out" while a third is unloading and reloading. I can think of no other reason why a Cedar Fair park is limiting its number of trains on a coaster.

I live in the Dallas area and just went to Six Flags over Texas for the first time in the 7 years that I've been here and I must say I was disappointed. I haven't been to a Six Flags property since 2010 and I remember being amazed at how man different coasters they had compared to WoF. That was not the case this time. Several of their coasters were closed including Titan which was the one I was most excited about. Overall my experience was meh. I'm moving back to KC this month and I'm super excited to visit WoF this year after not having gone for almost 8 years. Can't wait to ride the new Zambezi Zinger!

My understanding is that the major investments in Carowinds were largely prompted by local tax incentives. Has anything like this been passed or proposed in KC? If the city wants to make a tourism push in the leadup to the World Cup, it wouldn't be a bad idea.
@Cap-ku6ok2 жыл бұрын
That is correct, the local investment was an economic assist to encourage the company to invest more. As a matter of fact Charlotte only give a $900.000 tax break spread out over 3 years. Can't remember what SC gave.

A Mack launch coaster would indeed be perfect for this park. Seeing how they have a new Zambezi Zinger around the corner, this new Mack launch should be a new Orient Express with a very similar layout but with a launch instead of a lift.

If cedar fair buys six flags which is a possibility due to the new owner, i say they will possiblity relocate roller coasters to the smaller parks that are huge or even just add new additions few years later

a oriental express revival in the style of zz, as a modern vekoma would be epic. obv not all the same but most of the land is still sitting there
@turboshelby83222 жыл бұрын
Hopefully, it's going to happen. Possibly the ZZ is a cheap risk-free major investment to test how well attendance improves. If it goes well I can see the rebirth of the orient express the same location as the old one but built by Intamin multi-launch mega loopers (with icon interlock loop in the middle) of course. And then before FIFA 2026, we may see the return of the Extremeroller new location as the massive Giga coaster over the parking entrance. That is just my opinion of what is possible. Curious what is your options for what a possible future hold for Worlds of fun.

If they rebuild it, for god sake‘s repaint the station house white, yellow, red, & Green like it was in 1980. As of last month, what remain’s of Zambezi Zinger’s station is being remodeled back into the queue line entrance

I think Canada's Wonderland, Michigans Adventure, Six Flags Great Adventure and Kings Dominion could all benefit from becoming "Destination Parks" by adding On-site Resorts. It worked for Cedar Point, it worked for Great Escape, it worked for Dollywood
