Silver Bullet was the very first rollercoaster I ever rode when I was a kid. I remember my dad tricking me into getting in line with him. He had me thinking it was a different ride. When I finally figured it out, I cried all the way up to the first drop. I was so scared. (I was about 8, leave me alone 😂) When we got off I immediately asked if I could ride again. Lol Y’all can hate on it all you want but it will forever be my favorite and a staple of my childhood. And the old, antique electric cars that go around the Ferris wheel (Tin Lizzy’s) that was the first car I ever drove 😅 Wildcat = major headache… every time. Made my head hurt just watching this. Diamond Back was always the first ride when we entered the park and the last ride before leaving. I hope they don’t get rid of it… even though it’s only a couple years younger than I am. I haven’t been to Frontier city in too many years. I need to take my kids so they can experience it like I did when I was their age. I’m so glad to see that since Six Flags took over that they left it how it’s always been, including the name. Can’t really say the same for our water park “Hurricane Harbor”. It will always be White Water Bay to me. I’ve been to many theme parks in many states but this park is my favorite hands down. Not too big and hardly ever any ungodly long lines. I am sad that they got rid of Nightmare Mine. It was a wooden coaster inside of a huge dark barn. The Renegade Rapids is also great! Especially on a 100+ degree summer day. Thanks for showcasing my home state. You did a great review of our theme park!
@robm2101 Жыл бұрын
Nightmare Mine!! THAT'S the name of it! I was trying to remember what it was called. I only went on it once, back in '96. One of the biggest details I remember about it was that the ride ops had to pull this lever at the end to stop your cart. Evidently my cart came in so hot, that it surprised the ride op just how hard he/she had to pull on it to work. In some respect, it scared the tar out of me. In another, it soooo added to the thrill! But, alas! It is no more, and never shall be again, I suppose. At least we have our memories...

I remember that Diamondback was the roughest coaster I had been on. It was so bad to me. Then I got on in 2021 after skipping it since 2018 (yes, it was that bad) and I literally thought that it was smooth just because of how good the weather was. Thats how big of an improvement it was. I rode it again and it was still smooth, which is something I couldnt believe in. To this day I continue to ride Diamondback nearly everytime I get the chance. Best ride in the park, especially after that refurbishment in 2021.

I grew up with Frontier City and it has changed a lot. Back in the 70's they use to have cowboys on horses riding around the park and have shoot outs in the streets and they had more rides and shows. They also own 60 acres on the back side of the park and there has been talk about expanding..

I’ve lived in Oklahoma City my entire life and unfortunately you missed the experiencing the original Wildcat. It used to be notoriously faster and rougher. We would regularly have bruises on our ribs from being tossed from side to side during the ride until the park nerfed it, and slowed it down

I can attest, the OG WILDCAT would leave you feeling like you just played a football game in the trenches. As someone who worked there, there was at LEAST 1 injury from that ride a day (from minor to major). Also, the Eruption was a HELL of a ride. Very troublesome, constantly breaking down… but for those of us that rode it, that was an experience an a half.

As someone who rode Diamondback (and Wildcat, and Bullet) approximately 8,000 times in the 90s, I get a big kick out of how much enthusiasts talk about it these days. It got a huge local media blitz when it came here. We had no way of knowing it was a relocation or a future lost classic(?) back then. FC has scarcely changed from the place where I fell in love with parks as a kid 30 years ago. For better and worse. And the fact that we haven't gotten a new extreme coaster since 1993 is why they'll never, ever RMC our dinky little old steel-support woodie. Heck, if SF was going to spend like that, I'd rather a new coaster. I'm just happy with a rare Arrow and a running Schwartzkopf.

Funny story, I got on this ride but purposely “stood” on my toes while seated instead of being flat footed so my lap bar was more loose. On the turn right after the loop (before you go into the shed) I somehow gained air and my hand slapped the rail above us. I was SO fortunate that I not only didn’t have a bruise, but didn’t come out of the seat and die. I’ve watched the horror stories from theme parks and fairs. I was FORTUNATE.

Frontier City has been through a lot. My first coaster was Orange Blossum Special. This was in the NE corner of the park. It got moved to the center of the park, put in a barn and renamed Nightmare. You didn't ride the Log flume it's one of the best in the industry it has a interactive queue line has a couple well themed tunnel scenes. The line moves pretty quick even when it looks long. Also the train is something to ride they overhauled it now and has on board audio well themed attraction. If I was at the park the day you visited, I would of got you with a manager and showed you some real interesting historic things at the park. Like the story behind the carousel and it's Oklahoma themed horse, The history of train car that sits behind the Quickdraw. Renegade Rapids is a well themed river raft ride. The day you went Gunslinger was closed that would of been a rare unqiue flat ride, You didn't stay for a gunfighter stunt show the park has the longest running stunt figther show in the idustry it's the first stunt show in a theme park. 65 plus year running strong. It has explosions, alot of gun fighting, comedy well written show. You missed alot with this park. I agree the park hasn't had a new thrill attraction added since the Gully Washer water slides in Wild West Water works in 2017. It's in a thrill ride drought for sure especially for a coaster last one added was in 2008.

As a person who lives in Oklahoma and have been to this park before six flags took over I can say that six flags changed the park for the worst in my opinion. While yes they have better snacks and beverages than before they got rid of the thing that made frontier city so great which was the seasonal events especially Halloween. I don't know if they ever brought it back but the Halloween event they used to put on was definitely one of the best experiences I've ever had during Halloween. (Side note. The rides were definitely very dangerous before six flags took over.)

So I'm gonna drop some fun lore in here about Frontier City since not only did I work there, I also live less than 5 minutes away from there! So Frontier City is something I saw daily growing up and even worked with before, during, and after the Six Flags acquisition. Now I haven't worked there for a while, but I welling to bet/know some of the reasons why the Diamondback is often closed even though it sits at the front of the park. So I worked Merchandise, which is very limited in location. One of the locations though is that gift shop right at the very front of the park where you enter the Diamondback. Now as a Merch team member I never got updates about the status of the Diamondback which led to a lot of customers coming to us upset/curious as to why or even if the Diamondback was even going to open that day. We weren't able to give them a good status though. It does take a lot of maintenance as sometimes the ride would be closed midday for checkup, just to be reopen later on. However Frontier City is quite a small crew as well. There have been days where I've been taken off of merch duty and moved all over from foods, games, and yes, even rides. Now while each station has their own training which you can often graze through, rides actually required to do that training for the safety of the guest. This meant some rides that weren't popular might not even be open because not enough people OR nobody was trained on it there and there wasn't enough demand to get it running. Now consider this with the Diamondback: A very old coaster that a lot of people love, but was prone to not working. So it became a struggle when employees were schedule to work that, but than have to be moved off to another apartment, than to be moved back on if they somehow with a unknown ETA, got it back running. This is just my guess for the struggles of the Diamondback and I can't be sure what the Diamondback training requires as well since I know each ride employee was trained in sections so they may have had a few trained with it. But based on how much of a scramble I had to go through with we were strap of employees, I'm willing to bet every employee was moved around to be flexible to any position.

I didn't _ride_ Wildcat when it was at Fairyland, but I did walk, photograph & study it twice right before they took it down. The layout, especially the drops, were more exciting at Fairyland. Drops were steeper & got bigger as the ride progressed toward a cool horseshoe turnaround which I heard had strong laterals. Frontier City didn't reprofile to make it more exciting, they did it to make it fit in the only space they had. Originally, when new, Wildcat had no brake before that last drop before the station and the flat section was full of water & there was an artificial splashdown effect with water spraying up. Wildcat was much more fun when newly-opened. I don't hate it now, even though it's forceless. I see it just like I see Grizzly at Great America California, a really good, mild family wood coaster that everyone can ride. But yes, Frontier City does need a thrilling signature.
