The Old Cab Cars still have hope for now. The only way they are gone for good is if Sounder chooses to Deactivate their Cab Controls, which then, they will be permanently locked mid-set.

Well, for a long while, the LIRR was using GP-38s in Push - Pull service, as power, with the old Alco FA-1 and 2's as control cabs, and heat + lighting for the cars on the non-electrified branches east of Huntington, Ronkonkoma, and Babylon, until they started getting the Dual-power engines, and Double-decker cab cars. Then the 38's were leased to the company who ran the freight service, i think it is called the New York Cross Harbor. I'm not sure, because I never got pictures of their engines, I think they were painted a BN Green and black.

Down here in Iowa we kinda need a commuter rail between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids because the interstate is getting a little busy but 380 express ( a bus service) and with that even with 380 express is not helping the traffic at all it's going to make the traffic worse on I 380

Yeah. The BL36PHs and F59PHIs look very similar. And the Bombardier cars Sounder uses are incredibly similar to Tri-Rail's UTDC cars. Fun Fact: Sounder was actually once planning to buy four BL36PHs, but it fell through. I would have liked it, since at least they would sound much better than the MP40s.

@Felix the RailFanner and Planespotter Metrolink borrowed F59PHI 901 and a set of cars from 2002-2008, when it was replaced by the Boise Bullets, the ACE set, and the Coaster set, before both were replaced by the Comet Is from FrontRunner, and then the Comet Is were replaced by the Rotems.

They actually borrowed two sets of cars, but only one engine. The second set would run with an actual Metrolink engine. Sounder was ok with letting Metrolink run their own engines with their cars, but what they didn't allow was for Metrolink to pair the Sounder cars up with their own cars, or to break the consists in any way. Note that Metrolink had to play by the Sounder norm, which was that they always had to put a second Cab Car right behind the first one, and they leased four Cabs as a whole (104, 106, 107, 108) despite only two sets. VRE also had to play by the exact same rules, even though they leased two Sounder engines rather than one.

I'm actually going to get the chance to go see Sounder later this year (around November or December). I have one specific set goal, and this video here makes it look much easier than it really is. Film just ONE Old Cab Car on point. Right now, it seems Sounder is literally doing everything in their power to prevent Old Cab Cars from leading (without entirely deactivating them like Metrolink and GO Transit did). First, they bought those disgusting abominations like the one at 5:51. Just looking at them makes me nauseous. The MP40s are also garbage, but at least they aren't an issue regarding this, and at least those don't look absolutely hideous, to make up for them also having the worst horns in all of existence. Second, that stupid Social Distancing junk with the backwards engines. They're seriously wasting fuel and motive power demand by doing that. The only reason you would ever have to do that is if Cab Cars get banned from leading, like what happened to Metrolink after the Oxnard Crash with the BNSF engines. And of course, nothing is ever a guarantee that I can get an Old Cab Car leading just because I find the Everett train. It's not that simple.

I think a Raised Letter K5LA would be good for them. They actually specifically bought the MP40s because they needed engines to fill in for F59PHIs while they were away for rebuild. Since Sounder's F59PHIs now meet Tier 3, there should be no worry of them vanishing or being outclassed for now.

Thats where you're wrong. Metra needs more locomotives to replace it's older F40's. Would make no sense if Sounder getting those locomotives since they have "newer" equipment than metra.
