By far the most terrifying coaster I've experienced is Skyrush in the back on a wing floorless seat. The first hill the "hitch" I feel like I'm literally coming out of my seat, and if that isn't terrifying enough, the first bunny hop hill feels like I'm gonna rocket out of my seat at 1000mph as it crests. In the back and on a wing seat, it is the only coaster I cannot put my hands up through the entire ride.
@fpgmatthew Жыл бұрын
I visited Hersheypark in 2015, sat middle-ish row on the end seat with no floor. I always enjoy putting my hands up on rides. Ride Skyrush for the first time and when I went down the first drop, hands up still good, but when we leveled out I legit thought I was gone out of my seat. I’ve never put my hands down so fast on a ride before, and I clenched my legs onto whatever they could hold onto. It was a pure fight or flight instinct type thing, I’d never felt anything like it. I felt like I launched almost up and out of my restraints What’s crazy is I love roller coasters and always enjoy front row hands up type of thing, but my goodness I truly thought I was dead for a few seconds after that first drop on Skyrush. It’s been years but I wanna ride it again with the knowledge of what might happen, and I might enjoy it more

For me DC Rivals backwards is definitely the scariest I’ve done. The first drop is just so insane. I have to add the first drop on Fury to this list. Just looking out of the station at that lift hill that climbs into infinity, watching the Earth fall away forever as you climb, then cresting the top right before the plummeting begins ... Insane. Especially the first time. I was unprepared for the pretzel loop at Magic Mountain. I heard it was big but that's all. X2... I almost didn't ride X2. That's the only coaster I found intimidating since my childhood. One of my boys over the phone told me I had to ride it before I left or I would regret it, so I sucked it up and did it. Now it's tied with Steel Vengeance for my favorite. On any given day I might rank one above the other, but nothing else is even close to those two.

As an adult, I'll say X2 is genuinely scary and the lift hill on gigas do start to make my palms sweat. But coasters don't tend to scare me unless I have a long time to take in a big height. I tend to get scared on the lift during drop towers. But the scariest rides I've ever ridden are the super tall Star Flyers. Those are absolutely terrifying. Texas Skyscreamer is Anxiety Attack: The Ride. I'm curious to do the rides at the Stratosphere.

Sky Rocket IIs are really good at scaring the crap out of the GP though--and it's the kind of phenomenon that actually has me saying "GP" like a snobby enthusiast. That was what I noticed on my last trip to Lake Compounce. I was standing in line for Boulder Dash, and from that vantage point you get a really good view of Phobia Phear Coaster doing its thing, and just about everyone in line around me was talking about how you weren't getting them on Phobia Phear Coaster--that thing wasn't safe! They were terrified of it! To my mind, of course, Boulder Dash is much more intense than Phobia, though Phobia is a fun ride. I think that for non-enthusiasts, visuals are the main thing that scare them. Including how the coaster looks off-ride, and a Sky Rocket II looks really daunting when you're standing next to it.

I was definitely anxious about that drop out of the station on Time Traveler the first time I rode it. I've done plenty of vertical/beyond vertical drops, but something about the idea of being yeeted backwards in the last row of the train was unnerving to me. The location on the hillside is pretty intimidating. to boot. Thankfully, all it took was one ride for me to realize that it's one of the most outrageously awesome first drops ever! Also...Skyrush, every single element, every single time.

You guys totally gotta make it out to Vancouver one day to ride Coaster at PNE Playland. It's a gorgeous area right on the harbor, and to this day, I have yet to ride any coaster that feels as genuinely terrifying as Coaster. The back seats will SERIOUSLY have even the bravest Coaster enthusiasts gripping that buzz bar worrying about falling out of the train every single airtime moment😂 6 inches of lap bar space, no seat belts, and over -1 vertical g's over many of the drops. I seriously recommend if you wanna ride something that really makes you feel alive lol

Not many roller coasters scare me, but there are a few that are intimidating. 1. Top Thrill Dragster at CP. Waiting for the launch is intimidating. 2. Now defunct Wicked Twister at CP. I’ve always been scared about it going off the track, even though I know it won’t. 3. Superman Escape from Krypton at SFMM. It’s intimidating waiting to be launched, but also facing backwards it can sometimes feel you’re going to go off the track although you know you won’t. 4. I have 3: 1. Holding brake on the reverse spike of an Intamin impulse coaster. 2. Reverse lift hills on giant inverted boomerangs. 3. The old Georgia Cyclone. Especially the drop after the second turnaround in the back car. That actually tries to kill you.

ShieKra at Busch gardens tampa is the scariest coaster in the world, your feet dangle at 200 feet tall with a vertical drop, before the drop the ride stops right over the edge making you think the ride broke dooooown😱😱

Rode X2 twice last week for the 1st time and it was intimidating, but not really scary. Turned out to be a lot of fun and like others could not stop laughing during the ride from all of the bouncing. The scariest coaster in my life was when the Beast opened at KI and I rode it as a 9 or 10 year old. The signs / theming, station, and only seeing the "huge" first hill with the ride disappearing into the woods all added to the fear of what was going to happen on that ride. The loud noise of the train passing through the tunnels and the insane speed of a wooden coaster in 1979 / 80 was quite an experience.

It’s 1000% fitting that X2 is the first on the list. I have ridden a bunch of roller coasters but that first drop I almost passed out the first time I rode it. I know it’s not a roller coaster but the straight down drop slide Six Flags Magic Mountain Hurricane Harbor is a scary one. Both times I have been down the slide the lifeguard has stuck their head over the side asking people if anyone wants to ride the slide which personally saves me time.

It sounds dumb but Jet Star 2 at Lagoon was terrifying. At first it looks like a small little coaster with a couple of droops but No it feels like it will break your next. Also in the queue line the ride operator closed the ride, grabbed a mallet and started to smack the supports and then just opened it back up again.
@rogerbordine7 Жыл бұрын
All the warning signs in the queue of i305 about “heart conditions” “riders have blacked out” bla bla bla, and KNOWING that people notoriously black out on it was pretty scary. After i came to, going over the first hill under the lift, the ride was great, but i don’t think i’ll ever ride it again. I rode it in 2010, opening year, before the trim on the first drop and Re-profiling of the turn around, so i think i got the worst of it. Lol

The lift hill on Tatsu is pretty freaky as well! You’re facing straight down 150 feet with no net to catch you should your strap fail! Shudder

That whole ride is designed to bring out people's fear. It's a solid coaster and it's extremely intense, especially that crushing and seemingly never ending pretzel loop.

Good thinking guys! Now a GP will see the thumbnail and title of this video and click. Now we show them that coaster enthusiasts exist.

I've never ridden this one (and I never will cause it no longer exists), but I can imagine I'd have been terrified by Blue Streak at Conneaut Lake Park in its later years. A coaster featuring unusual but intense sensations is one thing, but from the povs that coaster looked like it could've fallen apart at any moment when you rode it. It looked as if it had been abandoned, then someone found it and started operating it without doing any maintenance work first

The Wild Mose at Luna Park in Sydney. Extremely old and held on the track by what looks like the tiniest strips of steel.

The two scariest rides for me are probably formula Rossa, the anticipation of a 150mph launch gets to you, and the big one in the back row, when you go over the drop you get a jolt to the side and it feels like the ride will throw you into the sea
@Groundhog27 Жыл бұрын
Yeah that launch is crazy fast on formula rossa

Rode Cyclops at Mt. Olympus in 2007. Back seat had some insane "OMG I'm gonna die" ejector airtime over one of the main drops. This was further enhanced by the ride only having buzz bars (I don't recall there being seatbelts) and the questionable maintenance practices of the park (every ride had at least one row closed off for repairs). The back row was also limited to people 18 and older, but that rule was not enforced. I believe the ride has since been retracked, so probably not as insane these days.
@CoasterStudios Жыл бұрын
I believe that!! Sounds totally nuts

I have ridden some absolutely terrifying coasters and usually its not size, speed, but more about how sketchy the ride is. Lake Conneaut silver streak is one that comes to mind. Some coasters just get minimal maintenance and it shows in trains and structure. Rust, Loose boards, trains not quite tracking right, missing bolts, might not be catastrophic by themselves but it does make you start thinking they could be, and definitely mean your in for a painful ride. While most operators will not be able to operate these rides today in the United States, rules were a lot more relaxed when I first started riding coasters in the 1970's, and I am sure there are many coasters in disrepair operating world wide.

I was thinking the same and the top one on that last would, well for me, is the Soriani and Moser Extasy. Rode one on the Mighty Bluegrass Shows midway for a good 8-9 years.
@porcelainthunder2213 Жыл бұрын
The worst one for me was Steel Curtain at Kennywood. Its very intimidating pile of twisted steel to look at, even from outside the park. Riding it, the design of the seats blocks your view, so you are kind of blind going through the layout. The super-steep lift hill is worse than a vertical one. And then there is the height. Looking out the side toward the river just amplifies the height, making it feel much higher than it is. And its just a lap bar.

Now for some reason, when I got on x2 for the 1st time I wasn’t even scared or nervous at all. And it was a night ride. I was surprised how I never got the nervous butterflies in my stomach feeling on that ride
@RyanHaydenMattoon Жыл бұрын
For me, it was velociraptor. Waiting for hours to get to the train. Got on the train. Right before launch they pulled us all off the train. Waited another twenty minutes for tests. Then got back on the train ready to ride. They pulled us off again. Finally, got to ride it and it did not disappoint.

Flying coasters creep me the hell out. First one I did was Manta at sea world Orlando and I could not shake the feeling that I was about to fall out of the restraints. I'm not a leightweight and there are people bigger than me getting on that ride but there was this constant irrational fear in the back of my head that I would be too heavy for it. I only went on it once. Did I give up on flying coasters? Nope, as I'm losing weight I'm getting slowly getting more comfortable with them. FLY in Phantasialand was some experience and I was able to somewhat enjoy Galactica at Alton Towers on my second ride. Going to Bakken next week on opening day, hoping to get that boost credit.

When I first started riding coasters as a kid, the only thing that ever scared me was the first drop or launch. Once I discovered that was only because I was holding my breath, I haven't been scared of any of them. It's probably due to inverts being my favorite type of coaster. Once you've been thrown around by one of those, nothing is scary. Other than being afraid of almost every woodie on earth - due to them wanting to put me in the hospital (I will hate you forever, Ghostrider!) - I have never really been worried about the elements of any coaster. I hopped on X2 without a second thought. The ONLY coaster I have ever been scared WHILE RIDING was Green Lantern. At the end of that ride we had a little moment with the strangers across from us, like we had all survived a serial killing together and we would probably see each other at support groups. I have had a handful of single moments that have scared me - like one of the launches on Furius Baco, some of the near-misses on Dueling Dragons, the finale of Objectif Mars - but they were just one-time jump scares that didn't prevent me from re-riding them multiple times. But then you reach a certain age where you start realizing you aren't immortal and roller coasters get a little scarier. I now have to do breathing exercises on the first lift hill. This has literally NEVER bothered me, but it started a couple years ago at Hersheypark. Which is totally weird, because height in the middle of a ride, like a top hat, has no effect on me. I can look down from a plane or a skyscraper or the Golden Gate Bridge and... nothing. But I recently climbed some of the tallest buildings in Assassin's Creed - yes, a VIDEO GAME - and my heart started beating funny. Brains are weird...

I'll join the crowd saying X2. That's the last time I can recall feeling fear while on a lift, because I had no idea what was going to happen, or what it would feel like. I've since gotten to experience other people's first rides on it, and I think that's a very common experience.

100% it's X2. I had no idea what direction or what was happening during the ride. Afterwards I was so drained from the experience that I had to take a rest.

Weird pick but the lifthill on Superman Ultimate Flight at Six Flags Great America is really the only moment on a roller coaster which caused legitimate fear in me after the first ride. There's just something about staring straight down at lawn whilst slowly inching away from it slowly for that long of a time that just triggers a major fear response in me. Gigas don't do that to me; even Manta didn't do that to me (probably lift hill angle, climb speed, having a net below, and prettier scenery all affect the response). That all being said I've not ridden a single coaster on your list.

Honestly I’m SHOCKED (ha punny) that a back row ride in Aftershock didn’t make this list. To me it’s easily the scariest ride I’ve ever had on a roller coaster. It feels like you’re never going to stop going up

Aftershock is an excellent choice and likely would’ve been a runner up! We only picked 6 coasters each for this video, aftershock would’ve been the most likely to be selected as a 7th!

The scariest coaster I’ve ever done (and don’t shame me) is the big one. It feels like it’s 300ft cause it’s right next to the sea and with that flimsy arrow dynamics lap bar down a killer twisted drop you do feel scared or you should do

Since last Saturday I had not been scared by a rollercoaster in 3 years. Back row on X2 scared me when the first drop started, and lasted the rest of the badshit crazy ride

I have three times I remember where roller coasters scared me. The first was when I was a kid and finally talk enough to ride the Cannonball at Lake Winnepesauka in Rossville, Ga and experienced air time for the first time. Then, as a teenager riding the Waubash Cannonball, an Arrow corkscrew at Opryland in Nashville and my first time off going upside down. It actually made me scream. Then as an adult, the moment when you top the first hill on Superman at six flags over Georgia and being tipped where my head was lower than my body was a scary moment. The pretzel loop didn't scare me, but coming out of it where we went back to flying position was scary.
@math0165 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, absolutely agreeing on X2 and the Tatsu pretzel - one I would add was a wooden rollercoaster (Hullamvasut, apparently) in Vidam park in Budapest, Hungary. It's not in operation anymore and they hope to renovate it - but when we were there in 2015 or so, they kindly put a little chain next to the "door" of our seats before the train left (was manually pushed out of) the station. That's it. No restraints. I mean, it doesn't pull airtime like some can nowadays, but with no. restraints. at. all. you do question your life choices at that point.
