Excellent review and insight into staying two days due to its location and weather. Certainly helped me out in the planning. Japan is full of quirks but they have an explanation as to why that ride closed due to weather and it hadn't rained yet. It was to get those peeps on line on the ride in time before the weather changed w/o adding to the line and disappointing people who wasted time on a line and couldn't get on cause the closed the ride last minute. Still disappointing. I live in FL so I've spend 90mins on a line and had the ride shut down.

Been there last month, and had a great time! For me, most of the bigger coasters were unlike anything I've ever been on, and indeed Hakugei is amazing! I had only one day and they closed at 5, but it wasn't busy at all so I could easily do all of the rides, and apart from Steel Dragon which closed in the afternoon because of strong winds did get to do the other rollercoasters multiple times. Also, good food options at decent prices! But I do recognize your complaints about the operations. When Steel Dragon was still running, just one single train indeed. So very short line yet still half an hour wait. Hoped to finish the day with another ride on Hakugei (they did at least run 2 trains here), but they closed the entrance over half an hour early. Most other rides were also running on the absolute minimum capacity, and often I was just sitting in sitting in a ride waiting for more people. Ultratwister only opened later in the afternoon, while Acrobat was closed for quite a while because of "maintenance". But in the end very much enjoyed it, and after a meal at the mall went to the Yuami no Shima onsen right across the street from the bus stop. I stayed in Kuwana, which is a lot closer than Nagoya and has a much more frequent bus connection.
@CoasterHour4 жыл бұрын
I’ll definitely make sure to have 2 days when I come here. Unfortunate to see that this park has a lot of unoriginal rides and coasters but at least some of their clones are very enjoyable ones. The mall looks awesome and I think the park has some great qualities to it with its location and atmosphere. Also I’ve always been confused by this why is it called “Spa Land” are there spas in the resort as well?

Long Distance Coaster Relationships oh I agree, it is a very solid park for sure. I neglected to mention this, but the demon drop clone wasn’t open for us, so we didn’t get to experience it. Arashi to me felt the exact same as every other free spin I’ve ridden...which is almost all of them.
@UniqueG242 жыл бұрын
There's a waterpark next to it, as well as a pretty big onsen (probably part of the resort, but you can visit it without staying there). Went to the park back in 2016 on a slightly rainy summer day. Rides were still open mostly, but the whole park was deserted and I had every ride for myself - a bit creepy, actually. As I didn't arrive too early (the park closes at 5pm) and was super hungover (requiring 20 min breaks in between rides), I did only 5 or 6 (Steel Dragon, White Cyclone, some water ride and others I don't remember). Afterwards the weather cleared up a bit and I went over to the water park, as floating in the water seemed more tempting to me at this point. It had quite a lot of really fun slides though, so can recommend that as well. When that thing closed I went to the onsen for another 3 hours or so, which was amazing. Really was the best I could do on that rainy day...

I noticed that there's kind of a weird balance between Japan's two biggest coaster-focused parks. Nagashima Spa Land has an atmosphere and ride collection more like a Cedar Fair park, but its ride operations are more like a Six Flags park, while Fuji Q Highland is the complete opposite.

I’ve been to Nagashima Spaland on a Japanese vacation nine years ago. I personally liked it more than Fuji Q Highland. I’d certainly go back again if I ever return, especially the chance to ride Hakugi, which was originally White Cyclone before the RMC conversion. Ride ops must have gone downhill when you where there. They ran two trains on both Steel Dragon 2000 and White Cyclone when I was there.

Another factor is the time of year you go. I was there late June but it was the end of their season so the park wasn’t busy but it was understaffed. Only 5 coasters operating: Steel Dragon, Ultra Twister, Acrobat, Looping Star, Arashi. The park was also insanely dead because it rained a little bit.

Just got out of the Park - oh what a great place (despite horrible operations, 8 minutes per train and not every seat gets used...). My tip for 1 day visit accommodation, especially with Japan Rail Pass: Stay somewhere near Kuwana station. There's a direct bus which takes ~20 minutes for 600 yen, and you'll get very easy further on your Japan trip since you can transfer from Kuwana to Nagoya Station (Shikansen Trains here) with your JR Pass! 🙌🏻

Nagashima Spaland in my experience was pretty awful, the park had very little shade on a day where it was above 40 degrees. The operations are by far the worst I've ever seen with the worst being acrobat with 15 minutes between sending trains out in some cases. In addition to this around half the rides were shut the entire time I was there including the shuttle loop, both wild mice, the ultratwister plus a few more. The only redeeming factor of the park was Hakugei which was outstanding but I probably would not go out of my way to revisit the park due to everything else.
