You can actually pack way more straw into this mix, and the walls won't crack so much (also makes it more insulating) - since digging the earth is hard work, it's good if you can keep that to a minimum, as there'll be plenty to do when making the final plaster!

Had this idea the other day with pallets and cob and thought it was farfetched. Thanks for showing me how its done and for giving me the confidence to do it myself.

No talking. Only demo! My favorite types of learning videos. Thank you!!! So i have a question. There is a ready built wooden house. All ready to habitate. Simple walls, double layer of wood panels. But the sound proof and coldness is poor. At nights it gets really cold. I was thinking will wooden walls hold the cob, if i just apply external layer. I suppose i will do it to test only one wall first. But would love to hear your opinion. Thank you 🙏❤️

Tanks for your nice comment. I'll start a small cob chappel soon. (next spring) For insulation I Recommend HyperAdobe but I'd advice to get help (It's quite labor intensive). We did a HyperAdobe wall for testing you can find it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIG7pYCZhdqHnrs&ab_channel=HandyMe

Great video! I wonder if this technique can be used to build a permanent house. I am thinking that for a house perhaps you can fill the pallets with straw instead of cob. This will offer good insulation. Or am I missing something?
@HandyMe
@HandyMe 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Yes you could. Imo for a more permanent and insulated I'd build with strawbales. Quickly, less labor intensive, and proven to work. This was a test for a future project. M

cool concept. I did a "double wattle and daub" clay slip hut - similar to this - only it took me all summer to weave in the willow branches for the wattle. haha. Also mixing the clay slip - I harvested the hay with a scythe.
