A brief video of the current progress of Fishing in Cobblemon coming to version 1.6 that I and others on the team have been putting a lot of time into.
Anything in this is subject to change and is just a showcase of current implementation that has been shown in sneak peaks so far.

[Fishing Mechanics coming to 1.6] - Unique Rods: Each rod will look unique depending on the ball used to make it, but will have the same base functionality across all of them natively. This is purely cosmetic for players to express themselves - New PokeRod Smithing Template: Smithing template to be found in town chests, guilded chests, while vanilla fishing, etc to be used to create the pokerod and even transfer enchantments from vanilla fishing rods - Fishing Baits: Every single Berry (and other items if players create fishing bait JSONs for them) can be placed on the hook of the bobber to be used as bait by casting while having a bait item in the offhand and the bait will stay on the hook until a pokemon is reeled in, at which point it will then be consumed off the bobber. You can also swap baits by switching to another bait in the offhand when casting and remove bait entirely from the bobber by casting while crouching. - Bait Effects: Each berry will have a unique effect for fishing. Baits can also have multiple effects and are super easy to datapack to make custom ones (like if you wanted to make minecraft cake a fishing bait that can boost IVs, attract Attack based natures, and have a higher chance to be shiny you can do that easily) - PokeRod Enchantments: Lure - Affects what pokemon spawn pools you can access based on the set world spawn JSONs for each species (For Example - you can set a pokemon species to have a minLureLevel = 2 and maxLureLevel = 3 in the spawn files so that if you fish with a rod with a Lure level of 2 or 3 then you can encounter that pokemon, but not with lure level of 0 or 1) Luck of the Sea - Actively affects the rarity bucket % of the fish you catch. i.e. For testing we have it where Luck of the Sea 0 makes the "rare" bucket 1% of the time, but Luck of the Sea 3 makes it so the "rare" bucket is 4% (basically 4x each bucket chance and Common gets reduced odds to compensate) - Control over Fishing Spawn Conditions: Within the spawn files for each pokemon you can fine tune the spawn conditions for every pokemon to be affected by what specific PokeRod, Bait, and Lure level you are using (For example you can make Kyogre only appear at night, near a underwater temple, with a Master Rod, while using an Enigma Berry as bait and with Lure level of 3)

I freaking LOVE the bait mechanic. The concept of having bait but also that it doesn't just disappear with every cast, you can get it back if there isn't a bite. I already spend like 5% of my time fishing in game but now I think it might jump by 20% 😅

Damn I really like the feature which the Magikarp after being summoned to the floor comes looking for a source of water! please keep this as it is, it really makes it realistic considering Magikarp is a fish!

A really cool concept and upcoming stuff. Love the Magikarp Jump forms as alternatives, and the enchantment effects are quite clean. My only complaint would be no implementation of Good and Super Rods. I previously thought they would work via smithing templates, but the fact you craft the base rod from them makes it a bit more difficult to brainstorm.

Fun fact is that we have it coded so servers and player can make their own rods via datapacks AND the spawning files for the pokemon can be datapacked easily so that only certain pokemon can spawn when using a certain rod :) So basically the groundwork and hard work from us is there for people to make their own custom rods of their dreams!

I have the planned mechanics posted in the pinned comment above :) The specific bait effects of each berry are secret for now, but every berry will have a unique effect and also this will be a water based way to trigger a spawn in certain ways you might want and will be the foundation of other things we have in store :)

This looks awesmoe! I wonder if eventually other mechanics from the games would appear in the game, such as Pokemon that can use surf being used as boats, or throwing the pokemon's balls near certain objects causes an interaction similar to tumblestones and berry trees in Pokemon Arceus.

@@thebug7017 Yeah it will be for mons that make sense and when we do it officially we want the mounting positions of the player models to be in a polished looking spot and not janky like some people have done with addons

Thaths a realy cool adition and i love that you made the rod be costomizable by changing the pokeball that you use a realy nice work. And one question does the fished pokemons geta afect by catch streaks like the shiny ods?

Yes the art team cooked with the different rod designs for every ball! And I believe we still have to code in the streak mechanics in general, but this system will also bring a bunch of mechanics for using various berries for added effects, one of which is a shiny reroll effect which gives 2x shiny chance when you use the Starf Berry as bait for example. We want every berry to have a unique effect :)

Oh this is just the made Cobblemon Modpack that is up on Modrinth but with Distant Horizons 2.0.4a tossed in and the shader is Proton :)

I'm genualy curious to know whether or not cobblemon's devs use distant horizon for no reason while testing or if this is just for this showcase. Keep it up guys, your mod is incredible!

Will some of the berry baits attract specific types? For example, using a Haban berry increases the odds of fishing up dragon types such as Dratini, Dragonair, Kingdra, etc? Also love the work you guys do, you cook a damn fine update every single time.

Seeing as it would be a little too overpowered to be able to insta summon some types repetitively especially since the spawn pools don't have many water + fire types for example, we are doing other type attraction things which we will reveal with those berries instead :)

Crab you and the team are cooking hard! Are different magikarp skins official (not addons) and will it change gyarados too?

Thank you! The team works so so hard :) - As for the karps yes! The Magikarp Jump alternative skins are making it into official and will be able to he caught by fishing and you cab influence their spawns with certain baits and lure enchant levels and biomes you fish in :) - As for the Gyarados evolution patterns those are making it in as well, BUT we will be making it an opt-in experience via a packaged resource pack so the purists can have their regular gyarados evos and players who want to have the gyarados skins just have to tick a single button in the menu :)

So the Gyarados evolution patterns are making it in as well, BUT we will be making it an opt-in experience via a packaged resource pack so the purists can have their regular gyarados evos and players who want to have the gyarados skins just have to tick a single button in the menu :) And the guards skins the art team cooked up are AWESOME in my opinion

Can you guys add cobblemon spawners so that it is easier to set specific regions for certain cobblemon in game. Could these spawners also have a feature where you can set the % chance of finding that specific cobblemon and within how many blocks that cobblemon can spawn. Adding this feature would make me switch to cobblemon. I love many of the cobblemon features but I personally enjoy creating maps where my friends and I can play, but it'd be pointless to use the cobblemon mod if I can't set their specific spawns.

I'm just running the official Cobblemon modpack along with the new test Distant Horizons 2.0.4a nightly build tossed in as well as the Photon shaderpack :) My specs are a run of the mill i7 CPU and an RTX 3060 12Gb GPU :)

Is a dive ball more effective?

Dive Balls are 3.5x effective when you toss it at a pokemon that is submerged in water, but Lure Balls are 4x effective for pokemon you have fished up specifically just like in the games :)

No we will not be porting to bedrock as we would need to completely recode the entire mod and bedrock marketplace gets really dicey with IPs that don't belong to you. Not only that but bedrock just isn't great for big mods either

As cool as this is I was kinda hoping the next update was on mounts.... especially since a full update takes half a year tbh

Mounts are full on in dev, but we want it to be polished and have different types of mounts, so it's taking a lot of dev time :) This update we are hoping to be much much faster since we've been making lots of progress on fishing already and want to get it out sooner than usual update cycles

They are alternative skins from the game Magikarp Jump which features tons of new patterns for Magikarp so we are adding them to the mod officially :)
