Where to start? The effort that you have put into is not lost on me. It was great. The video, you had to go through so much footage to get this and probably agonized over cuts. But on its pure merit, its a great video and I hope you get MILLIONS of views, but we all know how that goes. Keep it up, fantastic work. Was just talking about the NMBDR today with new friend met on Reddit Dualsport.

Jesus, talk about making a Western. I bought a 96 XR650L, shoved some knobblies on it for my mate from England. I threw some knobblies in the Dakar, packed a sleeping bag, tent, frying pan and a fuckload of beer and set off. Piece of cake, no-one fell off, we just followed the trail and finished it. You'd think this lot were riding across Australia.

John C. was a very generous man and he let me test his T7 for a 150 mile loop in Canton PA for free. He took his 1090 and we scouted a tour loop that a storm came through a couple of days earlier as we needed to make sure the routes were clear and ready to go for a tour he was leading the next day. It was my first ever experience on any off-road and on any adv bike. I loved it. I learned so much in the 8 hours it took. I did my best to keep up with him, he was usually a dusty blur haha. I dropped his T7 twice, sorry John 😂

@kdemotorsports5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the compliment and yes you have the right bike and an amazing backyard. So congrats on both of those. The kill switch problem will be very obvious if it happens because the switch itself won’t move to the run position. Black Bear Pass at 36:00 You fell at the same place my riding buddy on a DRZ400 broke his foot. and went further into the foliage. Your biggest mistake on the steps was being on the steps. the smoothest quickest line is actually right along the edge. Hugging the wall is a typical flatlander tactic. Don't get me wrong, the first time I did it, I bulldoged my bike down while walking alongside. I have never done it with panniers. It was always a day ride while staying in Ouray. Good for you.

Interesting that you noted the waterfall coming down Black Bear Pass and ignored the building above it. That is a hydroelectric plant that supplied AC electricity to the city of Telluride in 1891. Telluride claims to be the first city to be lit by electric street lights. This probably isn't true, but the fact that the building still stands and it supplied alternating current all the way to the town over 100 years ago is far more impressive than a waterfall.

Excellent review of the COBDR! Thanks for your efforts at giving us an honest recap of the challenges and rewards. On the bikes, none is without its niggling demons. I have a KTM 640 Adventure to which I've added a second radiator fan to manage overheating problems and prefer the lower weight vs hp for the inevitable drop. Soft luggage may be a better choice, too. The ATK has a great Rotax motor - amazing grunt for those tight sections on Black Bear Pass - what a butt puckering experience! At 33:15. Looks like the spotter was pointing to the right side of the trail to me, where the dirt met the rock? .Anyway the Ktm 990 rider may want to step up a couple sizes of front fork springs, That will prevent that fork dive.

Watched your T.W.A.T. vid (and ran it shortly after) and now just sat through this video and slowly planning the CO BDR. Great work!!! I'm in the Chicago area and was looking for a temporary storage solution in order to fly out to CO and do the same ride. How did you handle the logistics of transporting the bike to CMA and back home? Thanks!
@kdemotorsports3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. This trip John C. Did most of the logistics so he gets all the credit. Pick a transport company and I’d highly recommend Colorado Motorcycle Adventures where we stored the bikes. Getting them back we had a vehicle and trailer we left near the starting point so drove that back. A one way U-Haul would be another option. So basically on the way out two guys drove each hauling two bikes. We did the ride then two vehicles hauling 2 bikes each back. If you want to fly there then fly back one of the transport companies would be your only option. For storage though you can use the company I recommended. Also keep in mind this is doing the route reverse like we did from Baggs to the four corners. Can’t make any recommendations for doing it the normal direction.

What temperature did your KTM overheat it? I’ve taken my 1190 to Moab to ride the white rim Trail in August and it was 111°. The bike got up to about 235° A couple of times but never flashed or showed an indication of overheating.
@kdemotorsports5 жыл бұрын
I don’t remember exactly but it wasn’t that hot. We weren’t dripping in sweat or anything. My best guess was about 80 - 85 degrees. The 990 overheated at almost exactly the same time. This has been the ONLY time it has happened. I’ve ridden in warmer weather and moving slowly so the only thing I can attribute it to was how long we were sitting without moving at all.

Great ride, great footage, great story. Two things...the KTMs losing parts along the way doesnt surprise me, and please please please get someone else to narrate next time or learn to pick up your cadence. Seemed like you were pretty toasted or something hanging on all those words. I do however use your voice to lull me into a short nap in the afternoon, so its not all bad! Great video overall and I watched it all the way through and give you guys a big thumbs up for making the ride, and sharing the video.

Well done video. Thanks for sharing. Have you detailed the gear used somewhere? I’m most interested in the gear/mods on the KTM350. Keep up the good work and safe travels.

Thanks for the compliment and I’m glad you enjoyed it. As far as my setup I’ve done a number of videos on it however my bike is the 1090 I don’t have the details in regards to the 350. But if you ask about specific areas I’ll email the owner to see if he can provide details on it.

Haha. Hey, you mind doing a video on how the 350 was set up please? Safe travels and have fun!
@kdemotorsports5 жыл бұрын
mark224466 I wouldn’t mind doing it. However I don’t have easy access to the bike or its owner. He lives in another state and travels a lot. But again let me see if maybe I can ping him with some specific questions and if he can send me details and some photos then I might be able to put something like that together. I’ll keep you posted.

Cool. Mostly interested in if he changed the gas tank, seat, gearing, and luggage/ racks used. I don’t see many people use that type of bike for long trips. I prefer a 450 personally, but I haven’t traveled the miles he has and I know KTM and BMW make the bigger bikes for a reason. He wouldn’t happen to be in Colorado?

@@mark224466 I put almost all my milage on in MI riding dual sport (SAND!). Added seat concepts mid height, 3 gal ktm tank, EE bar risers, 13/50 gearing, plated 2013 ktm xcf-w 350. Alt Rider bags, headlite bag. I ran a tire I trust s-12's but would have enjoyed a less aggressive tire on the asphlat curves.. Bike had 11k miles with just shim adjustment. Changed oil every 500 miles T6 rotella (not on trip). I carried camping gear which I never will again...hopefully. We camped one nite. it was too stinking hot and we were ready for some AC , feat up in a real room each nite. I did not ride interstate to/from Denver but left truck rig in Montrose CO which I could leave from ride up to WY and then back from 4 corners. I never was an "odd bike out/under powered". I sold that ktm spring of '19 with 13k miles. I am interestied in the new 390 KTM and now curious if Kaw will ADV its 400. I really like smaller bikes (I am 6'2" 210 lbs. 60+ experienced dirt/street biker). This was a ride of a life time! Thanks John Dave and Clessui!

Thanks for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed it. Agreed that cameras never do justice to the terrain. The GPS I use is a Garmin Montana 600 series. I’ve been using that for about 4 yrs now and it has never let me down.

Day 6 is the best riding in Colorado . The "steps" into Telluride are intimidating for many. Your viewers missed out on footage of Bridal Vail falls. Guess you have to go back
@kdemotorsports5 жыл бұрын
Yes they did and that is truly beautiful. Definitely would love to go back. Probably wouldn’t have been as bad if we would’ve stopped for lunch. But by the time we reached there were running on cliff bars only for the day. 😂 thanks for watching

Black Bear Pass is terrifying in any video with vehicle I've watched... though it isn't part of the COBDR (the official route is further south, over Ophir Pass).
@kdemotorsports3 жыл бұрын
Correct it is not part of the route and if you’re doing it from south to north it isn’t even an option given the one way portion. Thanks for watching.

I never use the kill switch in normal shutting off of the bike. Its for emergency use. Ive had problems in the past with kill switches, so I use the key now 95% of the time.

Wow! Great video and absolutely stunning scenery! I'm surprised, KTM's overheat from stop and go traffic? Did they have some mechanical issues with them? Also, do you mind sharing approximately how much was it to ship a bike from Chicago to Colorado?
@kdemotorsports5 жыл бұрын
The KTMs are kind of known for running hot especially the rear cylinder because of airflow. Moving they’re fine but once air flow stops they get toasty. The twin cylinder ones not singles. No issues with either of them. As far as cost to ship it was splitting gas and trailer rental with John C. He hauled them out so I didn’t have to pay a shipping company. Thanks for watching.

Amazing video and story telling. I can tell this must have been a huge effort to edit in such a cohesive way. The views and terrain were incredible. I think I would leave my Tenere at home and take my 250 instead after watching this.

Glad I was finally able to complete it. It’s been in progress for a long time plus I had 3 days done and lost the project so had to start over. Anyway as far as the air box fix, I haven’t done anything to mine besides the pre-filters. We’ll see I may pay the price for that but for now I’m ok with the level of risk.

kdemotorsports I would like to request a in-depth video on the SW-Motech tank bag. I am looking to order one myself but i want to see it on the bike and get you’re opinion.. I’d be happy to sponsor the video since you will save me money if the bag sucks. I have searched the inter webs and i have found ZERO videos with sw-motech and KTM1090. Thanks
@kdemotorsports5 жыл бұрын
Yeti trician no need to sponsor it I already have the bag. I covered it partially in the 1090 build video but will gladly put together a specific detailed review. I like the bag a lot there are a few things to be aware of with it though and I’ll cover those in the video
