Well known fact that things look smaller on digital video, that fish was pending state record for Maryland and Virginia, and quite possibly a new world record
@tomkelly10172 жыл бұрын
Oddly, for those who don’t know, Cobia scales refract GoPro video wave lengths making them appear smaller, while UVA blocking shirts used by IGA world class fishermen to prevent sunburn cause distortion causing tings in video to appear large, kind of like rear view mirrors. Also high SPF sunscreen does turn hair white. That is why I appear to be an old fat man with a small fish.

This is the world-famous Tom in this video, who not only got smacked once but twice by that gigantic cobia and got a bloody nose and a huge scar for life as proof of this happening. And on his birthday too go figure! I'm sure that cobia is known all over the Chesapeake Bay for slapping anyone who tries to catch it. A legend that cobia! ~RVA~
@RVAHikerGirl2 жыл бұрын
@@tomkelly1017 You know what they say the camera adds 10 pounds so does that mean your cobia was even smaller than it appeared in this footage? Ha Ha! Susyn what do you think? If you are getting a chuckle from Toms hilarious comments, just know this amazing human is so much fun to hang out with in person. Maybe it was the intense sunlight bouncing off the saltwater causing our eyes to be temporarily blinded and our memories to be lost when your fish came aboard. Nope cuz we got it on camera. Now this memory lasts forever. But I like your tall tale none the less.

That was fun. Wow sharp and pointy that sounds rough, LOL. I enjoyed seeing you do something different and what a beautiful day out there. Yes, 40 inches is a pretty good size for regulation size. You and Susan did awesome, huge fish. Man oh man. Those cobias were awesome, I don't think I ever saw those before. So cool to see your boat drive off too. I bet that was so tasty right off of the grill. Great sunset too.

It's all about experiences over stuff for me these days. I'll take the memories over having to dust off a bunch of possessions. So I am on the look for new ways to enjoy my time in my fav place the outdoors. I am so hooked and have already booked another cobia fishing trip and I am heading out to bass fishing on the river coming up soon. And I may have a few other new ways up my sleeves too! Stay tuned. ~RVA~

Fun day out fishing! It's great to be out on the water and see what's happening! Great job catching that biggie- I wasn't sure if the rod would break- he sure was putting up a fight! I've never been salt water fishing like that- looks exciting!! Like!!

Enjoying new ways to enjoy the outdoors these days. It was my first-time saltwater fishing and yes the bend on that fishing rod was crazy from the weight of that cobia. You live in an area that would be amazing for some salmon fishing. Ok now I am officially jealous, ha ha! ~RVA~

So much fun! I am addicted already! I have another saltwater and a freshwater fishing trip planned. Salmon is so good. I loved went I went to Seattle and got fresh sockeye salmon. Such a deep rich color when compared to our Atlantic salmon. Go fishing, if you can girl, it's so much darn fun. As a kid, I use to go all the time but not sure why I waited this long. Just another way to enjoy time in the outdoors. ~RVA~

I enjoyed seeing something different. I've done that a few times, not my thing. But, give me dive tanks and a spear gun and I'm at home. I always enjoyed the ride back in after a day of diving and the tired party atmosphere it always seemed to bring.

Thank you Gary. It was nice doing something in the outdoors outside of my KZbin niche. I have a few other things up my sleeve that I am planning on doing as well. I have never been diving before, only snorkling. But that sounds really fun. I can only imagine the things you see down there. ~RVA~

How great it must have been out to do this boat ride. I think it's good that they limit the amount you can catch. I personally think there are a lot of wave, I'm afraid that i would be sea sick... You did super on catching the huge fish! Never had that kind of fish, but it looks pretty good....

We probably went out a good 40 miles and back. It's only 3 months of the year you can fish for them. Once Sept hits they swim down to warmer warmers of Florida and the Caribbean. I hadn't been on the ocean in a while. I took seasick medicine before I went out just to be sure. But I was fine. Luckily it was calm seas. Towards the end of the day, the winds started picking up and all of us on board were soaked from head to toe. Super fun experience and I already have 2 other fishing trips on the books. So much fun. It's a white fish. I made fish tacos with it the next day and that was out of this world good. ~RVA~

Awesome! Girls rule, boys drool 😄. Are you guys near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel?
@RVAHikerGirl2 жыл бұрын
Ha Ha! So we left out of Poquosin and went south towards the bridge-tunnel but didn't go that far and then headed over across the bay to the eastern shore of VA. We could see the tunnel from where we were. It's approx 30 miles across at the widest part of the bay. It was nice and calm on the way out but when we came back the wind picked up and shifted directions. So it was a bit of a rough ride back. Capt said 2 - 3 foot swells but they looked bigger than me. But I had so much fun and can't wait to get back out there again! ~RVA~
