Nice tidy looking standard radio that one fella.. Got a mk2 myself and love the thing and it still does exactly what it did back in the 70’s and 80’s and as standard as when it left the factory

Nice. I had a fully modded 148 MK2, it was probably the best rig I ever had.

I had two in boxes but sold them both. Highly illegal in any country, but wonderful radios I got the ham license back in the eighties but don't forget my CB roots. When the sunspot was right we had some fun on theses radios and back in the am days everyone had them...sort of died when the Government legalised the fm version.

Highly illegal? No one cares.

@@zukispur5493 Oh but they did care back in the day. I remember a few Ham International multimode II's and Cobras being confiscated and their owners fined back in the day when they sent the detector vans out here in the UK. Antennas over 1.5 metres was another thing that is why I got my ham license as I got fed up with the worry of getting my rig/antenna confiscated.

@@zukispur5493 No problem. I imagine modern TVs and radios are better at rejecting tvi than back in the day. It was literally out of control tens of thousands of am sets (maybe more) found their way into the UK. Not only that there were huge number of linear amplifiers power mikes speech processors echoe boxes and not uncommon for certain operators to be occuping 10 channels either side of the channel they were transmitting on or bleeding across the entire band when trying to be heard over S9 skip from Italy or on occasion the USA. CQ CQ CQ DX could be heard on any channel and those of us lucky to have side band sets like the Cobra had the best results on dx. Hams hated us and this easy dx comms with a passion as they tuned across a band where we were on and fumed with green envy at the unrestricted fun we were having local comms, world wide comms, QSL cards the lot. There is little doubt the home office were inundated with complaints from green hams and a few genuine people suffering from tvi. Most tvi problems were sorted out amicably with neighbours with say some ferrite rings or RFI filters all available at the time. Other moaners just jumped on the band wagon at this flagrant disregard for UK law when CB fever swept across the land. Great fun and great time to be alive no doubt the element of danger fueling the fun.

Mk2 is the best the mk1 is great on ssb but has more tx audio distortion on fm. Especially is not set correctly. They are prone to lazy needles too. As it uses 2 signal diodes you can try bridging one That lets alot more signal in and gives you more meter movement or you can upgrade them both.
@zukispur54933 жыл бұрын
Mk 1 has better ears. The lazy needle thing can be sorted. No tx distortion on my one. (Teardrop 575 m6 mic) had a erpom board fitted for the Muppet chanels

@onthebench36064 жыл бұрын
Hi there, realistically a 3 to 5 would run it easily, as full current would be around 3 amps on ssb so 2 amp breathing room
