Just ordered this unit for my new Jeep Willys. The ability to install the main box anywhere is amazing. Especially, not having to worry about coax length/routing, coiling, etc. makes this a breeze to install.

This thing is a piece of crap. It does not do the wireless part well or even at all. I installed the black box under the back seat of my 2024 AT4X and once paired to the mic it is supposed to stay paired but it does not and the only way to pair it is to plug the mic into the black box which is under the back seat and then replug it into the dash usb but even then once I turn the truck off and back on it unpairs and most times will not pair again without taking back to the box and plugging it in under the back seat. I put in a support ticket with Cobra and they have done nothing with it for the last three days So they are also as worthless as the 75 All Road. I bought it because it is wireless but if that does not work then I've wasted my money. Do not waste you're money on the pile of crap.

Three years ago, I wrote to Cobra suggesting they integrate Bluetooth, given how inexpensive the technology has become. I especially liked the idea of having a USB plug on the microphone, considering that most modern cars now come with accessible USB ports. Additionally, the convenience of pairing with a headset (finally utilizing the integrated car audio system for microphone and speakers) would save a lot of hassle. Installing a Bluetooth push-to-talk button in the footwell would also be a great addition, essentially creating a foot switch.

Does it have a built-in SWR I thought I read somewhere that it did but I didn't see it when you were going through the options

The USB has to be 5V 2.5 amps. The radio will power down if the amps are more or less. Very touchy!

Trying this setup on a motorcycle using a Firestik NGP Antenna. SWR Pegs the meter. Tried adjusting at the tip, no go. Cable is the one that was provided by Firestik, any ideas on what could be causing that high SWR? Using Firestik 3-way mount on motorcycle metal rack installed on the top case. Coax wire length is lengthy & tucked away.

Try running the coax cable around the bike and make sure it's not tightly coiled (wrapped in a tight circle) anywhere in the installation. If you wrap a coax in a tight circle the radio can think that it's another antenna coil and cause high SWR.

Get a center coil antenna, or base load antenna, like the SG-CB 1400 or SG-CB 1000 from sirio, use a thick braided wire from the antenna mount ( RF Bond) to the frame of your bike. wrapping the coax around the frame is also a good idea. used center loaded antennas for years on bike, because NGP antennas use the coax as a counterpoise, which sucks, and the frame of a bike has enough space to run as a counterpoise. 1m height, 2m long = about quarter wave on 11m, so enough mass.

@fnordist Thanks for the info. Turns out the Firestik coax cable was at fault. Firestik sent a replacement which I wrapped in tin foil then electrical wire loom, but laid it out in a "U" shape under the seat instead of the original wire which I had squeezed into a cavity in the top case. SWR on the single digit channels especially close to Channel #1 Channel 40 SWR is about 2.5 now. My only problem now is I don't hear much radio traffic even though SWR readings are low. It may be just no one is using a CB radio in my area. Not sure....

Interesting. Where did you mount the control box? Was there an issue with the power coming from your other USB source?

@@RightChannelRadios it’s at the back wall of my quad cab Sierra. USB works just fine. I found it weird it didn’t want to connect so just wanted to share in case someone else ran into the same issue.

I see no advantage of this new radio over the Midland 75-822. With the vehicle adapter everything is self contained within the handset and a pigtail with antenna connector and cigarette plug. Handset is still less combersome than the Cobra also.

Both are great radios. The Midland 75-822 is ideal if you want to move the radio from vehicle to vehicle or quickly install it. The Cobra has the edge in the install appearance as you'll have less wires showing in the cab, etc. Also, with the Cobra you can plug the radio into any USB port - not just the one on the radio so you can install the control box wherever the coax cable enters the vehicle. Both are great and it's good to have options!
