I have never done any paracording was thinking of making my dog a collar this is very clearly demonstrated thanks for the share but I am confused at the point you put the male end on where it was attached or how you then continued. I understand you wanted a certain length but I was then baffled which end you attached to the table you took it off to measure and next thing one end was stuck to the table what was 13 inches the distance between the ends? Am I correct that the central cords just go between the buckles and the others are continously tied I couldnt figure out where the other end was when you stuck the one down or even in fact which you had attached to the table until the second end came in view.
@d.i.ypetaccessories Жыл бұрын
Hi there, sorry for the confusion. Yes it would be 13 inches from the female clip end to the base of the male clip (where the two clips would meet) as I want the collar to be 13 inches long in total. After I had attached the cord to the male end it was that end I taped down as the loose cords (for braiding) are on that side. You don’t need to tape it down it was just easier for me on camera to stop it moving around. To attach the cords to the male end I put the ends of the cord through the buckle from the top of the buckle down and then measured my 13 inches so I know how long the centre cords would be (and you’re right these are there the whole time as this is what you braid around). I then take the loose long cord through the middle of these two centre cords (from the back to the front if that makes sense). From there I repeated the cow hitch knots I did on the female end. I’ll try to explain using the cord colours as it might be easier. Take the pink long cord over the centre pink piece to the side. Then take the end of the pink cord up through the buckle from the bottom up. You’ll have created a big pink loop with that long cord. You don’t want to move your centre cord pieces at all these are keeping the length of your collar. Take the pink end through the loop and pull to tighten. It should look like a single cow hitch. The back of this will look slightly different to the female end as we attached it differently. You’ll then repeat that step with the green side. I really hope this helps! If you’re still a but stuck I have another video on my channel showing a couple different ways of attaching the cord. I show this attaching method using a much shorter piece of cord to make it a bit easier to see, so that might make it a clearer too.
@lillianalevizopoulou37793 ай бұрын

I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling! I haven’t watched this video back in a while so I’ll need to rewatch it and see if I can make some changes. It won’t start the exact same as the first buckle as we start with a loop there, but it makes 2 larks head knots. You need to feed the ends of the cord through the second half of the buckle from the top toward the bottom. Then, you bring both cords through the centre strands (the 2 strands now joining your buckle that you will braid over). Put each strand to their respective sides. Start with the left side. It goes over the centre strand, back up through the buckle from the bottom toward the top. It’ll have made a loop of itself. The end goes down through this loop and you pull to tighten. You just repeat that on the other side. I also have a video showing how to set this up where I use a much shorter piece of cord so you can see. Hopefully it helps! kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIjHqH2Xj9BjrbMsi=NfukpNAYhekcm1t- Let me know if you have any other questions

Hi, thank you so much! I used 20mm in this video as that's the size I use for Poirot's collars. You can use a 25mm buckle there would just be a tiny bit extra space where the knots are and I have squeezed it onto a 15mm too! Any smaller and you would just need to get a different size paracord such as type 1 or 2, they usually put mm width of cord in product descriptions. Buckle size mostly depends on your dog breed; 25mm for labs and bigger, 15mm for small breeds such as dachshunds, cavaliers etc and 20mm for everything in between.
@d.i.ypetaccessories2 жыл бұрын
It depends on your dogs’ breeds. I would use 10-15mm for toy and small dogs, 20mm for medium and 25mm for large breeds. My dog is small but fluffy so I use 20mm on him as the width looks better

Every time I did what your saying only 1 of the 2 strands of the Lark’s Head knot were inside the knot. HELP!!! I can’t find your blog for written instructions either. Thank you!!
@d.i.ypetaccessoriesАй бұрын
Hi! I’m so sorry it’s not very clear. I do have another video showing this with a shorter piece of cord so you can see it properly (I’ll pop it below). I took my blog down a couple of months ago but I’ll try to detail it here (hopefully it helps!) Once you have put your strands through the male end from the top down, you’ll have two centre strands that are essentially attaching the buckles. Take the ends of your strands through the middle and place each end over its respecting centre strand (so pink crosses over pink to the left, green crosses over green to the right). Then take your pink end and pass it through the buckle from the bottom to the top. If you pull it through most of the way you’ll see you’ve created a loop. Pass the end of the pink strand down through the pink loop and pull to tighten. You should hopefully have a larks head knot in pink. You want to now repeat that with the green. If my instructions are still fuzzy this video should hopefully help, but let me know as this is a common question and while I have a starter knot video, I might make one purely for this set up as it’s the most common. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIjHqH2Xj9BjrbMsi=YNwDAur5ZT2yDppe

May I enquire as to where you purchase your Metal buckles and D rings from? Also what size are they? 😊
@d.i.ypetaccessories9 ай бұрын
I have a variety from different places. If you’re UK based I would recommend petsbitsonline as they are in the UK. Otherwise I mostly get them from paracord.eu Size-wise it entirely depends on your dog but I usually go 10mm for xs or cats, ~15mm for small dogs, 20mm for medium dogs (or small but stocky breeds like staffies or working cocker spaniels) and 25mm for large dogs. If you use 25mm I wouldn’t pull the cord so tight as it will look weirdly skinny compared to the buckle! And I would do 1.5ft of cord to every inch of braid to account for the extra width (ie 10” collar would need 15ft of cord) Hope this helps!

There is another method to join cord which I will aim to video soon that is much stronger and won’t come apart.

Hi, honestly it really depends on where you are and what platforms you sell on. Bare in mind fees on certain platforms, Etsy takes about 15% and websites are pricey. For a basic price work out the cost of materials and any postage/packaging materials and delivery costs. Make sure to charge for your time too. I usually think how much I would want to make per hour and divide it by how many I can make in an hour. Then it would be fees on top of that. It’s not too tricky once you get into the habit, and don’t be dissuaded by bigger companies selling for cheaper (they have the equipment to speed up and cheapen the process) or sellers on platforms like Etsy selling for cheap, these are usually drop-shippers or they haven’t accounted for additional costs over the materials. Good luck!

What size rope do you use I want a thick collar for my German shepherd with a at least a one inch clasp…
@d.i.ypetaccessories2 жыл бұрын
Hi, my current videos are using 550 or type 3 (4mm) cord. I use this on my 1 inch collar too but a thicker cord would be better if you can get it. 550 seems to be the thickest before you go into ropes. You can do what’s called a king cobra braid which is a cobra braid over a cobra braid. I’ll do a video on that soon. It is thicker though so I would add extra length for it to be comfortable
@ablarks8 ай бұрын
I use 6mm & always find I get some shrinkage on the overall length by the time I’m finished. Is adding 1.5” a general rule for adding to the overall length? Xxx

Hello! Can you tell me the measurement in meters, in total of paracord of this collar? an avarage...
@d.i.ypetaccessories3 ай бұрын
Hi, unfortunately it completely depends on the length of collar you want to make. The best thing to do it use an inches to cm/M converter online to work out how much you need after you measure your pet’s neck

What size paracord did you use for this 550?

I did but you can use thinner cord for smaller collars, it’s really preference and pet size!

I made a 2 color bracelet for my son and after a few weeks of wearing it, it broke where I joined the 2 colors. What am I doing wrong?
@d.i.ypetaccessories Жыл бұрын
Did you use paracord for the bracelet? I’m only asking as different materials react differently. I’ll try to get a video up about joining two sections but the manny method might be the best to ensure it stays. I’ll aim to get that up this week (I am so behind with videos!)
@ginacline5632 Жыл бұрын
@@d.i.ypetaccessories Yes, I used black 550 and green 550 paracord and burned them together. Is there a possibility I’m making my cobra braid too tight? Looking forward to seeing your tutorial! Also, if I burn the 2 ends together, do I hide that place I burned it inside the bracelet or up by the buckle?

Hi, that all depends on the size of your dog. Typically I use 20mm for my dog and small/medium dogs. 15mm for xs dogs and 25mm for big dogs

Qual medida dessa coleira e quantidade de corda?
@d.i.ypetaccessories6 ай бұрын
Hi, I’m hoping this will translate well as my Spanish is not very good! The collar will be the size of your pet’s neck plus one inch. The quantity of cord is one foot of cord per one inch of braid. For example: a ten inch collar will need ten feet of cord. For two collars it will be half the length each colour (for example 5 feet of green and five feet of pink). If you work better in centimetres. It will be 12cm of cord per 1cm of braid. I hope this all helps!

What about cm? Im not from america so i dont know inches and feet 😢
@d.i.ypetaccessories23 күн бұрын
Hi, I’m not either! We use either cm or inches here and I find it easier to measure in inches. There are converters online and it works the same, essentially for every 2.5cm of braid you would need 30cm of cord

This is paracord. You can use silk thread but it would possibly need stitched at the end. Paracord melts and adheres to itself, silk won’t

Hi. Just seen your video. I have some 1 inch buckle clasps. I had to use 4 strings to fit across at the first buckle, I ended up with 8 on male clip. I can't figure out how to do the knots on that end. I tried what you've done but isn't working for me. Could you please help? Lol

Hi what size d ring is best
@d.i.ypetaccessories Жыл бұрын
It depends on the size of your buckle but you want it to match. If you’re using a 20mm buckle you’ll want a 20mm d ring. Buckle size will depend on your dog’s size, a rough guideline is 15mm for small dogs like chihuahuas, 20mm for medium dogs like staffies, spaniels etc and 25mm for bigger dogs like labradors.

Is it 13' total or 13' of each color?
@d.i.ypetaccessories Жыл бұрын
13 feet total. It’s a foot for every inch of braid regardless of the number of colours so I would just half it (or make one colour slightly longer so the join is hidden in the braid)

Is it 13 ft of cord x's 2?
@d.i.ypetaccessories2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Sorry for taking so long to respond. If the collar is 13" in length the total amount of cord will be 13ft. If you're using 2 colours like I did here then it will be 6.5ft of each colour (although I like to round up a little to give me extra to work with).

I usually have about a foot of each strand left over at the end, but not much more. If you find you have way too much you can always experiment with smaller measurements (eg 8” of cord per 1” of braid or similar)
