When he bought the plantation he had spent: 1600(1-0 farm) + 850 (0-0 ace) + 600 (0-0 chipper)= 3050$ To get 3050$ he needs 3050 (the money he needs to afford everything) ÷ 250(the amount of money he gets per eco) ≈ 12.2 ecos (let's consider that 13 ecos) If he sent a red balloon he would have spent: 1600 + 600 + 850 + 25(the red balloon price) = 3075$ 3075 ÷ 251(his eco after sending the red balloons) = 12.25 (or 13 ecos) So yes in both cases he would have needed to wait 13 ecos to afford the plantation. In fact, he could have sent 16 sets of red balloons: 1600 + 600 + 850 + 400 (the price of 16 sets of red balloons) = 3450 3450 ÷ 266 (his eco after sending 16 sets of red balloons) = 12.96 ecos So he would also wait until the 13th eco to get that plantation Edit: if he did send 16 sets of red balloons in the beginning of the game, he wouldn't be able to buy the farm as fast as he did, so that makes the calculation more complicated, but if we neglect the fact that he wouldn't be able to buy the farm if he sent 16 balloons, sending 16 balloons would be the optimal way of playing it.
