When Rickenberger lost that drinking contest, he could not care less. To him, it was just a "stupid game" that was meaningless. When Tory won, she was elated. It meant she was the party supremo. That "title" meant so much to her,especially when Miguel cheered her on. That was her claim to fame. I know at social events how people can be overzealous in some of its contests, such a playing pool, horseshoes, basketball, etc. I have the same attitude as Rickenberger. I could not care less who wins or loses. However, there are many people I have seen who stake their identity with something I consider trivial. Tory thought she would embarrass her arch-nemesis Sam in that drinking contest. She thought, along with Robby and Miguel, that Sam was an upscale,glasstower, nerdy princess who would not be able to "hang" with a streetsmart, bluecollar city slicker as herself in a contest such as that. When Tory surprisingly lost that contest to Sam, her reaction was completely different that of Rickenberger. She was totally humiliated, degraded, and disgusted. Losing that contest was bad enough. Losing to someone she totally despised and also she regarded as a spoiled rich brat made that pain of defeat even more pronounced. While the wounds of defeat were painful, it could not compare at all with the absolute humiliation and degradation she experienced when she saw her boyfriend Miguel and her enemy Sam kiss. That was tantamount to the pouring of acid on her existing wounds. The witnessing of Miguel and Sam was very traumatic indeed and it spurred her to take decisive action the following morning.

Exactly! What is Tory’s endgame? She said it ends tonight. Sam finally disarms her and she says this will never end. Hmm...? Tory’s brief glimpse of her home situation was the same as the Vietnam flashbacks. Gave momentary sympathy and root for them but that’s it. She’s not really a bully. She’s only really come after Sam 2x and takes it to extremes. True she bumped her at the roller rink but she apologized ;). Only time she fought other miyagi do was the arcade and the house. But she was looking for Sam. She didn’t go around like Hawk did picking on people. She didn’t break someone’s arm, although she egged it on. She did say she didn’t think he would actually do it. At first that sounds like she doubted Hawk but at second glance I think she meant it as like dude we dared you but that’s hardcore. We didn’t think you’d actually do it and wouldn’t have held it against you if you did. To me that plays with her expressions the very next episode seeing Hawk ground and pound Brucks Savagely. I think she was definitely taking some cues from Hawk which is also part of his betrayal that stings her. Second season she was taking some cues from Miguel when he would challenge Kreese’s teachings. I hope her and Robby don’t get romantic. It’s weird seeing her seemingly accepting of him after admitting she hated him for awhile for injuring Miguel. Makes me wonder if Kreese and her aren’t maybe just manipulating Robby like Silver and Barnes did in KK3? It’s weird seeing her be associated with Kyler considering he used to bully Miguel who she really liked and I think still does. She was the one who called out Miguel as he fell. Kreese did prompt her on the house fight by telling her of the Diaz/Larusso girl alliance. She definitely values loyalty. She called Hawk and Miguel traitors. I can see her extra anger at Hawk. He came to the house fight with her and was kicking miyagi do ass and then flipped. Plus she has heard him at least twice that I can think of declare “cobra Kai for life.” All in all season 3 seemed to go out of its way to make cobra Kai the clear cut villains and miyagi do more sympathetic protagonists. Eagle fang felt in the middle to me. The fear that Sam dealt with made her a lot more like able than the previous seasons. Tory juxtaposed with no real backstory or insight to her motivations just comes across as psycho. I hope they redeem her and Robby. Personally I’d like to see her back with Miguel in the end and Robby back with Sam. I don’t think she has any family connection to a character from the movies. I don’t want her to either. I think her redemption could be something like Sam saving her in some way like Miyagi saved Sato when he was trapped in the storm in KK2.

There's still more to learn about Tory, I feel. Peyton said she was shocked that Tory didn't apologize to Miguel when they met up again. She didn't think she'd be so harsh towards him. Her comment about people thinking she's crazy makes me wonder. Did someone hurt her as a child? Maybe no one believed her and thought she was crazy? Or does she have a history of mental illness? "Once a cheater always a cheater", I think she said. Did her father cheat on her mother, start a family with someone else and abandon them? You're right about her ott hatred of Sam. We need to understand more about why she hates Sam. I don't think the shows given us enough there yet. It's not just about Miguel. Maybe Sam reminds her of someone that's hurt her in the past. I don't know. I liked Tory and Miguel together. They had a good spark and were more interesting than safe old Sam and Miguel. I would like to see Miguel break down her walls and help her with her home life and emotional issues. Peyton, Mary and Tanner said Robby and Tory would be too toxic together right now. I agree. One of the writers said there's still plenty of story to play out for all 4 and their various couple combinations. Being that they're teens, no doubt lol.

Yeah I was thinking, the reason she was so angry about the kiss was obviously that Sam kissed Miguel but also more deeper. This is only theorizing but I think she may have a history of being mistreated by the men in her life. If we can go be her pervy landlord, I can imagine that unfortunately she gets all kinds of unsolicited attention from men, and when she started going with Miguel, that was the only guy in her life who had given her positive attention and to her Sam took that away. Just a theory.

Tory is my least favorite character in this show, and I think your video really helped me figure out why. We don't really understand her motivations or her reasons for doing things, and she kinda seems like she's just there to be a plot device for Sam and for the whole show. I wish we knew more about her and why she does the things she does, because its really hard for me to like her or to sympathize with her when she just comes across as unhinged. The writers definitely need to give Tory more nuance to improve her character. Great video as always!

The writers definitely improved Sam quite a lot with a season of in depth story and character arc from just being the love interest so heres hoping the same can be said for Tory in S4. Robby may me instrumental in that

Tory is attracted to guys who have good in them. She knows what Robby did to Miguel was accidental. Tory started to distrust Hawk after he severely beat a defenseless Brucks. She knew that Hawk would betray CK when she saw Robby at their dojo.

I mean Tory is a lot like Johnny in that she feels like Miguel is her territory. Just like how Johnny felt like Ali was his territory. The thing is Johnny had friends that didn't want to go overboard on bullying Daniel. Bobby told Johnny off at one point. There's none of that in modern Cobra Kai. Everybody is just feeding off everybody elses toxicity.

Tory has been always dealing with the rough side of life, and loyalty is a lot to her because it means she has a support system that she can feel even more powerful. No one can blame her for wanting that support and strength, like the one she has with Kreese. It’s the same that Miguel has with Johnny and the same support that Robby once had with Daniel and Sam. Like you said, Tory is a product of her environment, much like Robby, and both showed signs of care, except Robby shows true remorse while Tory reverts back to the Kreese style of Cobra Kai. Kreese Cobra Kai is more of a troop, or army, while Eagle Fang is friendship and Miyagi-do is like family. All different forms of support systems.

IMO a perfect arc for Tory would be for her to beat Sam at the tournament (most likely playing a little dirty) and then her realizing that does not make her feel any different about herself and her life. I think Tory wants to hurt Sam so bad because she would feel a little more in control of her life. While I don't necessarily think her character should be redeemed, this would def deepen her character and add another layer as opposed to her just wanting to kill Sam for no CLEAR reason.

Tory is an interesting character because she has a lot of question marks on her back story and who her mother is and as for how she is acting right now I think that's a lot of Kreese's influence with the strike first, strike hard, and no mercy and her past before she shows up. When Miguel says to Tory don't you feel like what Kreese is teaching us is wrong she says no and talks about how her mom got fired for bringing left overs to her kids to feed them. So you know that her childhood wasn't very good and has seen her family suffer and does everything she can to take care of them. I think she has a lot going on and doesn't know how to Balance it all and Kreese's way is helping her in a way but I think if she is going to have a redemption arc Daniel is going to have to be her Sensei and Sam may not like it but by the end of the series they will be enemies turned friends like Johnny and Daniel.

Personally, I really like Tory. I do prefer her over Sam, and this is because one she’s badass, but mainly I feel where as she does bad things. She also takes responsibility for it or a least she doesn’t try to hide it, whereas Sam does. She never takes responsibility and always views herself as the good guy. One that can do no wrong. I mean I still like Sam, but I feel people question Tory, but never question Sam. Sam has just as much to blame in all this drama as Tory.

Thing about Tory that bothers me is that we learn the only reason she's not in juvie like Robby is because she's her mom's caretaker. And that if she' gets into anymore trouble, its Juvie for her. Yet the moment her rent issue is fixed she immediately starts causing trouble again. Even commiting a freaking home invasion!! So that tells me that while Tory cares for her family, they come second to her need for revenge. And I can't tell whether or not that was the writers intent.

I think Tory suffered the same fate to an extent that Robby did for the sake of the story. Tory had to turn to the full on dark side otherwise she would just be in the shadow of another character. But then again, I think the way her character is going is more believable than Robby's.

When she says that it ends tonight, I feel it's more of her trying to end whatever alliance between Sam and Miguel because she feels betrayed. Tory thinks of Sam like Krease saw those jocks, it's someone who didnt have to fight to get what they want.

If they DO somehow manage to get Hillary Swank on board (Big "if"...), I'd like to see Julie play a role in mentoring Tory--not in a martial arts sense. Just in helping her find peace in a healthy way. And of course, Tory will have to deal with eventually finding out that Julie was/is involved in the karate war by way of her ties to Miyagi-Do... Basically the reverse of Terry teaching Daniel in KK3.

I got a theory it is really long tell me what you guys think. The all valley tournament will take place at episode 9 and Maybe 8. Miguel will not be 100 percent healed before the tournament. Before the tournament he will gets cramps but he will still compete. He will make it to the finals it will be Miguel vs Robby. Kreese and Terry know what is illegal and what is not. So they will tell Robby to hit the back Robby will do so. Miguel will hit the mat and try to get up but couldn’t. Everyone in the crowd will be silent. Some people will put Miguel on something to sit on like a chair. Mean while Robby will realize how bad cobra Kai really is and join Johnny. Sam will start to cry and Daniel and Johnny will be in shock. Daniel knows we have to do something. So we will see Daniel calling somebody and we will hear the words Chozen I really need your help. Miguel will start to get some feeling in his legs. And Daniel will talk to Miguel’s mom. Miguel will go on a plane to Okinawa that is paid for by Daniel. To train with chozen for the rest of the summer. He will train with Chozen instead of Daniel because cozen is way more familiar with miyagi do. Chozen will teach Miguel everything he knows. When he gets back he will be pure miyagi do. When Miguel gets back it is episode 10. Jonny and Daniel will get in a fight with Kreese and terry. And mike Barnes may come back. Maybe mike and silver have kids and they are really good at karate. But in season 5 we will see flash backs of chozen training Miguel.

Overall agreed as the plot is for this character to be ripe to taking the CobraKai way the furthest, but I'd add that a "trying to kill someone" desc... that's just a lil bit of a wrong take on the karate drama license of the show, and incongruent to any empathy or understanding for the Tory character. I guess Johnny tried to "kill" Kreese, as he grabbed a weapon off the wall in a heated fight too, right? & that was the 2nd time he went to a place of business and "committed assault", if that's the way this show is to mistakenly be seen. So, if her inclusion in the finale house party crash was in a murderous vain, she'd have come in weapon-in-hand, no? That's why she can be taken aback with Hawk going too far with Brucks, which was AFTER he began doubts about the CobraKai way! So, her line is also about wanting to do away with rejection by Miguel (done poorly in show writing at the cafe scene) & all her life's woes - which come 2nd only to Kreese's background(!), topped off with his special interest lessons to her, in 1980's karate flick parlance - This end's tonight! ...setting up the actual line - "No Mercy!"

A lot of kids are born to families that don’t have much money. They usually have to grow up fast and couple that with absent father and sick mother, yeah, she’s got a lot on her plate. There are a lot worse situations out there. What we do know is that her mother did try her best based on her story to Miguel. So I think it’s safe to assume that she is cared about. Which is more than Robby has had in that area and he isn’t out trying to kill people. He isn’t out encouraging arms to be broken. Miguel was clearly an accident. Just like most kids that have it harder than others. Tory has shown that she’s bitter and feels that she is owed better. She’s a psychopath. Serial killers with far worse childhoods than her character don’t get to use it as an excuse. Her character wouldn’t be hard to sympathize with had she nit turned the bitterness into pure rage with very little limits.

She hates Sam for taking Miguel from her & unjustly accusing her for stealing (while eventually grabbing her for no reason). She undoubtedly has anger issues and needs help. Sam reflects on her inadequacies of being rich, privileged, not coming from a broken home & being able to take away the boy that she loves. She is my favourite and I’ll always like her better than Sam. After all she is loyal to the core and a much better friend/girlfriend than Sam will ever be. But I can’t deny the fact that she is wrong for the reckless things she does and she goes way too far (really unnecessary). And Kreese being an influence on her is putting fuel to the fire to her mindless behaviour. I can imagine how she could possibly turn out if she meets someone like Mr. Miyagi, teaching peace and managing anger etc. She is no different from Julie Pierce from Karate Kid 4 tbh, I felt Julie was actually worse than Tory, but yet Miyagi helped shape her into a better person.

Disagree. Robby feels betrayed by Sam, by Daniel, even by his own father. He has so much rage that he unleashed on Johnny, we're going to see more of that in Season 4. Mark my words, Robby will be the new Hawk or worse.

I too had thought Tory could be related to Silver she could be his granddaughter but after you gave your input I see that isn't possible. One Silver is fifthy rich & she would've been living like a princess hell, she probably would've ended up like her grandfather. I'm glad they made her background very different she came from poverty & she has to look out for herself like Robbie she has no one in her corner until Kreese came along. Now she & Robbie has Kreese in their corner my concern now is what's going to happen when Silver shows up.

I feel the same thing man. To me I think she is a misunderstood person you know and I believe Kreese It’s not the right sensei for her. Throughout her ark in season three that made me sympathize her because despite what happened in the school fight she carried too much to her self And that’s what I believe For her doing two jobs and now going to karate she didn’t have all the time to visit Miguel in the hospital and that’s a very messed up life and I can see that it’s a lot more messier than her Past story when she was young. And I don’t blame her to go in the LaRusso house and then starting a fight because It was Kreese by himself who told her that Miguel is hanging out with Sam and believe in me if Kreese didn’t say those words in the house with it it’s been destroyed.And as you said when hawk was beating the living daylights of Kyler’s friend you saw the look of her face that Does she actuallyLooked away a bit and that is a sign it is hard to watch. There’s two different sides of Tori one the fun side of her and the other violent side within her and we both seen it in season two but in season three we have seen a battle in between emotions again like Hawk was battling is two different types of personalities like between Hawk and Eli so in the end of season three Eli won the fight and he become full Eli instead of Hawk . She’s like the female version of hawk but she’s going to be a very hard person to turn back the way she was from this state. She kind of reminds me of Julie from the next karate kid movie she’s more than a villainess type way. If Julie would’ve returned in Cobra Kai I think she would’ve helped Tori from all the things that she was going through if not possibly we may see a fight between them which is going to be very cool unless if it happens.

Kreese recruited her for his own perverse purposes. He set her up by telling her that Sam and Miguel have "teamed up". Kreese knew that Tory and her goons would attack Sam and her teammates at her house. Kreese will cut Tory and Kyler from CK due to the insistence from Johnny and Daniel. Kreese will turn to Silver to recruit highly effective fighters.

@R B its an interesting set up for sure. They could even end the series next season if they wanted to since most of the characters have already completed major character arcs and we finally have the two dojos together. However, if they plan to extend the series for two more seasons after 4 than what else will they do to Robby and Tory other than make them the new antagonist in the story, well in Robby's case we can argue that he plays the anti-hero.

@R B I actually watched the Robby saves cobra kai video and I actually have similar hopes to see that happen. I've argued in other videos that Robby and Tory wont be influenced by Kreese for long but its a bit of an unknown to me how they'll extend conflicts if they want to stretch the series until a 6th season. Which is why I wonder how long will they have Robby and Tory play the antagonistic role in the story.

I think tory will try to fight Sam, Miguel will step in and not really fight but taking most of the hits from Tory. Letting her hit him so she can let out her anger. By the end of it she’ll be crying while Miguel hugs her telling her it will be ok. That’s a way I think Tory will be redeemed. I don’t know if they would get back together though

Tory attacked Sam at the school because Sam kissed Miguel. Tory attacked Sam at the Larusso household because Sam "stole" Miguel. Sam and Tory are good students from good families who are respected by their peers and adults alike. Tory and Robby are marginal students from troubled backgrounds who both were forced to raise themselves. Tory actually acknowledges this to Robby at the police station.

Chosen One , She is bye far my favorite character. She reminds me of Miguel but from a girl side the difference is her mother is dying and she is playing not only being a mother to her own brother she is forced to be one to her own mother . Using a weapon lets be real totally writers BS, I think it was totally unneeded she was beaten the crap out of Sam for 90% of the school fight they only did that to make her the villain and to help us all forget Sam started all this mess in the first place. Okay hold on everyone said Sam and Miguel was together and Robbie and Tory was a rebound if your going to use that argument Chosen one then Sam was on the rebound from Kyler when she dated Miguel right? I mean Miguel and Sam went on one date ( Or wasn't a date its confusing with Sam plus she wouldn't invite him to the house to meet her parents we know that and Miguel was with Tory how much longer and on how many more real dates then he was with Sam? Which one is real for Miguel really which one was a rebound for Sam? interesting but I think Tory and Miguel made a way better match and dated plus they trained together plus Miguel did tell Sam he was with Tory so was Miguel actually picking Tory over Sam at that moment? Again who was really the rebound Sam and Miguel my friend because Sam was with Kyler and jumped to Miguel like in 5 mins! Um really again Hawk and Miguel were with Cobra Kai and Miguel was dating Tory who was with Cobra Kai think that was a pretty solid group of friends in Cobra Kai. O yeah what will happen if Julie is Tory mother that is dying, what a twist because then Tory becomes a instant fan favorite with Karate kid fans just like Sam because of her father. O MY who do ya root for the Rich snob or the Poor girl who has to fight for everything she gets and sacs everything to care for her dying mother. I really don't see how Tory can be a villain just because she wants to destroy Sam for perhaps taken the only good thing she has in her life. That is great motivation and in our history people do kill for just that reason. Its going to be interesting because like Daniel in the karate movies Sam never loses ever she gets the man and wins all the fights sounds like her dad yet were watching Cobra Kai and realizing Johnny wasn't the bad guy after all we root for him even against Daniel some times. I kind of wish the writers realized what were doing here its Cobra Kai its not SAM THE HERO vs Tory the Villain that would be weak writing we seen movie its called Karate Kid its why were making Cobra Kai you would hope Chosen one they learned writing this show characters are Grey not Black or White but it seems like SAM has the BIG WHITE HAT ON they given her Super hero powers she can't lose!

Who knows how really bad her life is we only got a little bit of it, then take Miguel he might of been the only good thing in it and little princess decides she wants that too hell with everyone else. I like Tory with Miguel and I like Sam with Robbie it was way better because Sam made Robbie better and Miguel made Tory better. Sounds simple to me.

I can sympathize with her to a certain extent, but she obviously has some issues. She was ready to kill Samantha for kissing her boyfriend. While I understand where she's coming from to an extent, If she was really worried about taking care of her brother and mother she would not have put herself into the positions she did in season 3. She obviously just wants an excuse to be violent. If she was really worried about her family she wouldn't be doing these hinges and risk getting in trouble with the law.

If you want to know what I think about Tori and her story arc I think that she is a very tractive person I don’t think I would want to date her because she is a very possessive person. That I would not want to date you do remember that she did still Sam’s mom‘s wallet at the beach remember when she was knocked all over into the food cart. And Samantha was told that Tori is just plain innocent no matter what you say after all she stole your mom‘s wallet but she’s just plain innocent this is someone. That thinks that they are just innocent after they do the crime you do remember that right at that beach club where they were at? I don’t think that she is all that and promiscuous and always the one who happens to be the innocent one all the time I don’t know if there is a different story for Tori if there is or a different story for her I will be more than happy to see that happen but if not oh well it’s her loss well she supposed to be in a private school in the first place. She is the one that started the fight over a boy went really well keep that phone just feel just Tori and Samantha and not have everybody fighting instead of hell Valley State trying to think that it’s the karate that’s the problem I just think that she is a victim of circumstance of society but she also victimized herself by making it all about her and her selfish ways and ethics and promiscuous ways maybe there can be a redemption arc for her to If you know what I mean everyone can have our our our adoption all you need is trust in love and forgiveness and I cannot understand that from her point of you but she did orchestrated a lot of these fights if you will get it from Tori and Samantha you would know that they were friends in season one then she believed Kyler over her friend and that makes her not a true friend wanna talk about that you can you could talk about her as being a false friend

They have all been rebounding since Sam dated Kyler no offense but don't use the stupid rebound thing Sam been rebounding the whole show she dumped Kyler and then went out with Miguel making that totally a rebound according to your own words The Chosen One sorry dude but Sam is the one starting all the fights at party accusing Tory of stealing , School by Kissing Miguel, School again the Gym fight, House fight where she got everyone together to fight Cobra Kai. No offense Chosen you seem to not blame Sam at all if not for Sam I have a feeling Tory wouldn't be causing any problems she was to busy working 2 jobs and taken care of her mother then going out with Miguel she had to see him while working. You should go back from season 1, watch how Sam has started everything!
