A lot of people are making Rocky connections, especially with Axel's resemblance to Drago, but I'd also add that his team 'Iron Dragons' sounds similar to the name Ivan Drago. The hospital scene with Miguel's mother, where she tells them to "win," was no doubt ripped straight from Rocky 2.
