This is not addressed nearly enough, but what about the idea of being ‘physically present, but emotionally absent.’ A main complaint I hear from people, mainly of the female persuasion (in the absence of major abuse dynamics), is that the father was present in the the house, but the relationship wasn’t warm or even not really there at all. That may be the difference between a father and a dad.
