I would very much appriciate your advice on the following questions, please: 1-Can you paint with cobra water mixable oils over Liquitex Clear Gesso? 2-Can you paint with cobra water mixable oils directly over jute canvas that has been sizd with traditional rabbit skin glue? I am assuming that so long as I use Cobra's painting medium or quick drying medium with the paint, it should be fine. But if I mix any water into it, it will be absorbed by the rabbit skin glue, as it is soluble in water even after it has dried and bonded to the canvas.

Great information - I do not have every color I want (in COBRA). Can I use traditional oil paints under, on top of, or mixed with Cobra paint? If so, I would just clean my brush with walnut oil, and probably baby oil to get all the residue out - then of course I would wash my brushes

Hi there! Yes, Cobra can be thinned with solvents such as white spirit and turpentine as well as water. When using solvents, it is no problem mixing with traditional oil paint! If you want to keep the watermixable quality of Cobra, you will have to mix with a 4:1 ratio of Cobra to traditional oil paint. I hope this helped!

with water cobra (study) dry in 10 minutes, am I wrong mevrouw Merel? You said a bit less than with pure cobra but to me is a huge difference drying with water and without. Anyway really good presentation, you really have a nice professional and funny personality. And can I make the basis of the paint with water as first niveau that goes easy drying, and then add on top with linseed oil 91 medium for the other levels?

Cobra study does not dry in 10 minutes. If you want it to dry faster, a Quick Drying Medium can be added, but remember: oil paint never dries faster than 1 / 1.5 day. When water is added to the Cobra, you dissolve the oil slightly. When the water has evaporated from this layer, oil paint remains and will have to dry for 1-2 days (to touch dry) before a pure layer can be applied over it. The first layer of your painting should at least be less greasy than the layer that comes on top. How 'fat' you start determines your next step. If you start with Cobra + water, the next layer can also be Cobra + medium. Also Cobra + glazing Medium, for example. As long as it is fatter than the previous layer. The more medium, the fatter. Glazing medium is even fatter than the 091. Hope this clarifies things for you.

Great information, however , I have one question for you, May I use refined linseed oil as a medium to paint fat over lean? Thank you
@Royaltalens1899
@Royaltalens1899 3 жыл бұрын
Adding refined linseed oil always makes the paint (Cobra oil colour and traditional) 'fatter'. But also a huge extension of the drying time. It is more advisable to use a Painting Medium (from Cobra or Talens): This has a nice balanced recipe of oil, siccatives (which help the paint dry), resins and turpentine (not with Cobra medium). And makes the paint also 'fatter'. Hope this answers your question!

Why do you have to wait one year before varnishing?
@Royaltalens1899
@Royaltalens1899 Жыл бұрын
Because the oil paint needs to dry sufficiently before applying the varnish. If you do it too soon, the varnish might react with the oil and ruin the entire artwork. Better safe than sorry!
