I got access to the drumless version of this track, which gave me so much more freedom with the mix. Also used a deeper and lower-tuned snare for this one (Neil Peart's Snake & Arrows snare) which I think sounds absolutely immense. Very proud of the way this mix turned out!
Just a quick note on the mix, because I think many may be thinking this: yes, the mix is incredibly aggressive and also over-compressed. Hearing the drum mix by itself will actually give you a very good idea what it takes to mix an additional layer of drums (mine!) into an existing and, essentially, finished song:
Kick, snare and toms, are LOUD and especially articulate. The mix is also very bright. This coupled with a slight high-pass filter on the track underneath immediately makes my drums pop out more, and without this approach my drum mix would be drowned out by the already loudly mastered version of the original track. My goal is to get the track underneath as loud as possible (for full immersion) while still hearing every note I am playing on the drums. Tricky balance, and very subjective!
Stoked to make these drums-only mixes and videos available to you guys! It should make some things a bit clearer.

This drummer has excellent rhythm and would be an excellent drummer to any band because he understands his role as a timekeeper rather than a soloist. Excellent job! Guitar players would like to play with this type of drummer because he would not step on their riffs.

And some handbags, clothes etc costs more than this kit, don't know what you're on about...What kind of cars are you comparing this kit to in price? Ferraris and Bugatti Veyron? Of course this kit costs more than "some" cars, pretty much any kit costs more than "some" cars, it all depends on what kind of cars you talk about, even if we both only mean real cars, not toy cars etc. Because cars that "normal" people sell, instead of cars from car dealerships can be pretty much free. And this kit is definitely not for free.

double strokes on the kick drum don't sound good with hard rock/metal music.... there is no punch or consistency in the hits.... play them as single strokes with some power.

From looking I think they are (From Cobus' L to R): (ALL SABIAN) 20" HHX Legacy Ride, HHX 12" Splash over a Mini-China, 14" Artisan Hats, 18" AAX-Plosion Crash, 8" AA Splash over 10" Chopper, 10" HH Splash, 18" HHX-Treme Crash, 22" AAX Omni, 19" Paragon China. Hope this helps :)

It depends on where you are, but if buying used is an option, take it! I've got my set of Sabians (HHX hats and ride, AAX Crashes and China) for around 50% of what you'd pay from buying them new in a music shop :)
