Love the Juggernaut Perk Machine feel from it. But also, I enjoying seeing old school stuff from the old days, even tho I’m born after 95 in the 90s. I think it’s very interesting to learn how stuff like this were back in the old days. And man, 10 cents for a bottle? I wish that’s a thing for modern day vending machine prices.

Not as rare as you might think, they're all over the place in Michigan. I personally bumped into three of them in the last 2 or 3 years. One at a garage sale, one on Craigslist, and one at the flea market. One of them was a hundred bucks and the other one at the flea market was fully restored and I think they are asking 600

The spot behind the door has a special lock system in place that prevents more than one bottle being vended at once. Think of it like a collar around the neck of the bottle (that won't let you pull it from the machine) that only gets unlocked when you've put a coin in. When you pull a bottle through, the whole system resets, preventing any other bottles from being removed, until you put another coin in. It's very difficult to articulate and explain over written word, but it's a beautifully elegant mechanism to actually watch in action.

does this work on the honor system (like newspapers vending machines did)?
@HomeLeisureDirect Жыл бұрын
Not quite. They'd thought of people making off with free drinks! Whilst you're free to open the door when you like, there's a mechanical latch that each drink has to be pulled through to take it out. This latch is locked shut, and the size/shape of each bottle can't get through it. Inserting a coin will release the lock, allowing a drink to be pulled through.

@blairquinney2143 жыл бұрын
Good question. Probably in 1956-- based on what we've been availed of its innards via this video-- the disgruntled would-be consumer would have to approach the property owner and declare, "Hey. I just lost ten cents in your Coke machine." Ultimately (and almost certainly not long afterward) there were mechanisms onboard to return the coin(s) when there was no product to be vended.

The designers had thought of that! Vending machines like these use a specially designed latch that locks a bottle in place, preventing you from pulling a bottle out when you haven't paid. It's only when you insert a coin that the mechanism allows the bottle to be pulled out. Once you have, that's what resets the whole system.
