Don't rush in getting a bird ! Cockatiels can live to an average of 15 years so when purchasing a pet in general make sure you're ready for a long time commitment! Please continue to do your research on food, cages, toys etc. Use this video as a very BASIC guideline ! There’s so much I forgot to mention! - make sure you have enough time and love for your cockatiel because they do deserve as much love + attention as any cat or dog !!!
@cardcaptorvii4 жыл бұрын
Thats so true! Because they are birds it doesnt mean them being locked in a cage with food and water is enough. They need much attention but its all worth it because they make great companions!!

He was such a sweet boy; he loved to be with me all the time. Also girls are totally more moody and picky than boys. I just got mt first ever Cockatiel 2-3 days ago. Im a 30 year old male and bought an all white Cocky haha. I had an instant feeling with this bird at the pet store, the information said it was hand raised and it was trying to give my finger love bites through the cage and i just had a feeling, so i impulse bought of course hahah! 😊 I just want to know if i have a female or a male, because i keep calling what i think to be a "Him", a " Good Boy" all the time haha so it'd be funny as hell if its a girl. Its not very chirpy only when it wants attention, i taught it to step up on the first day and have had it on my shoulder the last 2 days for about 2 hours each time. I feel like we have definitely broken the ice and he or she falls asleep on my shoulder cuddling up to my neck, ear and beard haha. Id say its a very well behaved bird, loves to preen a tonne hahaha! 😐 dust everywhere lol Not sure how old it is or if its a male or female, its all white please help, and my bird doesn't seem to be eating much that ive noticed and i havent seen it drink any water, but the water was fairly dirty each time i change it, so i would assume he/she has a drink after he/she eats, haha. Thanks for you're help
@saeshell4 жыл бұрын
All white cockatiels can be tricky in telling what the gender is, give it more time as you’ve only had the little guy for a couple of days so it’ll still be getting use to everything and getting comfortable. If it starts to become more loud and singing lots then you’ve got a boy and if it remains more quite then a girl! But you might have to wait a while considering you’re not sure what age the bird is ( can take up to a year if they’re a baby ) as with food, try and encourage it more but the bird is still probably getting use to the surroundings ☺️☺️

Sa wad dee anytime a cockatiel eats his crop fills up and then eventually it gets flat again because it digests the food in its crop. My cockatiel Diego has had a slim build all his life but he eats like a tank. Just make sure he is getting the right amount and the right type of food and he should be ok, get a small scale (fruit scale will do) and weight him frequently if you can to make sure he isn’t losing weight, he shouldn’t be under 60g :)

I am here because three days ago I rescued one from being steamrolled by a bus. Now I am suddenly a ‘tiel mom and do not even know where to begin! I did head straight to the neighborhood pet shop and got her (?) a proper-sized cage, appropriate food, and some toys. Now I am just sorting out the details of how to go about creating a happy, healthy home environment for her. From what I could glean through tutorials like yours, I think she may be female and about five months old. Next stop is the vet, I guess. But I want her to feel more at home first. She’s still a little shell-shocked from her near-death experience, I think...
@oliviamoers66064 жыл бұрын
My first cockatiel I got from a pet shop when he was a baby and he had extremely clipped wings. He was still being fed rearing mix and hadn’t started to fly yet. But when he started to get older and thought he should be flying, he would jump out of the cage and because his winds were SO short, would plummet to the floor. As much as I tired to stop him he’d continue to try and eventually broke his tail doing so. When his flight feathers eventually grew in properly he began to fly a bit but was all over the place because of his damaged tail. It eventually got better and he could fly like a normal bird, but his tail was never the same. So just be cautious about if you do choose to clip, and don’t be extreme about it because it can cause damage.

I have 2 tiels! One is a Cinnamon boy and the other is a Cinnamon perl pied... one is 19yrs and the other is 3... I love my birbs so much. You are so right with birbs needing attention, they are such sweet birbs. Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear of that with your baby😞 Yours look so cute as well!

This video is very helpful because my sister has a bird and she has plants and she lit a candle once so this really helped and I did tell my sister so she put them down stairs

My male cockatiel Lucy, is 29 years old. And I taught him to whistle "Low Rider" He's afraid of hands, but once hes on my shoulder, he is very affectionate and gives me kisses. I can't imagine life without him.

Aww I remember when I wanted a Cockatiel! I wanted one like 2 years ago, but then I realized would be better for me and the bird to wait until I get my own place. Which is going to take a few years...but I’m willing to wait lol I also already own a Roborovski hamster and at the moment I wouldn’t be able to afford both.
