Cockpit Casual - 787 Training & Antarctic Sea Ice (double episode!)

This double-feature episode of Cockpit Casual begins in Denver Colorado, where Bob & Steve attended the B-777 to B-787 differences course to obtain their PIC Type Ratings in the B-787 Dreamliner. Just like in real life, immediately after the course, Steve heads down to Santiago Chile where he meets up with Nomadic's Wes Gardner and the two embark on an adventure ferrying a B-767 from Santiago to Singapore via Auckland.
The Santiago-Auckland leg was unique in that the great-circle routing passed so far south that Antarctic sea ice was visible from the cockpit. This episode is packed with action and beautiful vistas as the Nomadic team circles the earth yet again. Of course the episode also features original Jazz from Steve's fathers organ quartet aptly named "The Wings of Jazz".

I'm so happy now. Your content rocks so hard and is so worth the wait. Just everything about this channel rocks. It's not just the stories you have, but its in the way that you tell them. Your content is so kick-ass and so unique, it can stand on its own no matter how its disseminated. That said, your gift for story telling is among the best I have ever known. I used to think Ken Burns was the greatest American story teller...until I discovered this channel. I'm not kidding. You are that good at story telling. I hope you know that. Thank you.

I believe the 787 is a 777 type rating in the USA. I have a pal who is cross-qual on 77 + 78 who flies out of his base on one then flies the other on his trip. Here in NZ it is a completely different type-rating! Differences course as you did. I've been told the 78 flight deck is basically the same as 77 with bigger screens and different FMC and other minor differences. The overhead is identical and things like Auto brakes selector in the same place. Great watch, I really enjoy you and Bob's vids. Best from me Down Under here in Middle Earth!
@CockpitCasual
@CockpitCasual 27 күн бұрын
B777 and B787 are different types and separate recurrent PCs, but they’re similar enough where it’s a “differences course”. So I did the full course on the 777 ten years ago, then 2 years ago I did the 787 differences course. It was really short, like 7 days total with 3 sims and a Checkride. IMO - they’re not too similar. The CDUs are basically the same but the systems are hella-different. The 787 is very electrical-centric with a lot of “gee-whiz” computer stuff.
