The Frick videos over the last few months have been a source of solace and consolation. We have come to expect, not only erudition and sophistication, but also compassion and humanity from you, Xavier, and Aimee. Tonight was no exception. We appreciated your strong and tender words this evening, which are so much needed, and the silence we all shared was exceedingly powerful. Thank you..

Cocktails with a Curator has been a superb series that I look forward to every week. But last night's tribute, without cocktails, was the finest of the lot. Very many thanks to Xavier Salomon and to the Frick for such a reminder of the values that should transcend everything else. Frances Carey, London

I have watched Cocktails with a Curator since the first episode, and it's become an important part of my locked-down life. 5 pm with Xavier, before Shabbat services at 6:30. I've loved every single episode (although I admit I've never made the cocktail myself). I settled in yesterday expecting to see Xavier Salomon discussing another work of art, but was blown away by the powerful comments he made before his 8:46 of complete silence. At first I was tempted to find something else to watch, but I took a deep breath and sat in complete silence for the entire length of his silence. I will never forget how powerful a statement he made by his silence. I have received emails from dozens of cultural organizations decrying racism and violence against minorities, but Xavier made his statement into art. After a week of non-stop news, helicopters overhead and fevered discussions, his silence was both healing and inspiring. I offer my deepest appreciation to Xavier and to those at the Frick who must have agreed with him that this was the right thing to do.

Definitely not what I expected when I tuned in, but beautiful and perfectly appropriate. 20 minutes on Fragonard would have seemed like an obscenity this week. I used the 8:46 to think about why so many fellow citizens feel excluded from out great cultural institutions (even when, as with these lectures, their resources are free and available to anyone), and what I, personally, could do about that problem. Thanks, as always, for these memorable presentations.

David Schlapbach - oh, does the obscenely pleasurable Fragonard deserve to be cancelled now? Let us know when we can again contemplate beauty without guilt. Until then, feel free to keep shaming us.

I really appreciate your remarks (and apologize for the man below who suggests that you leave the country and denies that ours is a racist country). The pandemic was such a strange time. While your curated videos were quite a comfort (and continue to be now) and a learning experience, I find this video very appropriate to remind us we can't in conscience escape to beauty in the midst of violence and suffering. PS You might read Louise Erdrich's The Sentence, the best novel written about the pandemic IMO. it takes place in Minneapolis.
