@@micixdudaJizya is a fixed amount. Zakat is percentage based. Also, Jizya is exempted if they’re poor as well. Unless you want to get conscripted, you’re paying protection money. It’s pretty straightforward.

If a non muslim living under the sharia law, they are protected under that islamic government and they will not join muslim army when there is war, ONLY muslim living in under muslim gov has to join the army fighting the enemy. The jizya is the payment the non muslim needs to pay for protection, not implemented on women or children, elderly, or according to number of family members whatsoever, ONLY healthy working non muslim men. Totally different with "tax" that we implemented nowadays. If a muslim lives in UK where the gov implemented tax, and if muslim say "No, we don't wanna pay because we are muslim, we are not christian". What would the authority will say? The answer would obviously be "'It has nothing to do with religion". When a non muslim lives under the muslim ruler/islamic gov, if jizya is the law where they need to pay, suddenly the answer is "why we non muslim need to pay you this and that?" LOL the irony. You go lives anywhere you want, christian country, non christian country etc, you pay tax according to its law. This is what we call "constitution". Suddenly when someone decide to live under islamic country and islamic law, you think the jizya is somewhat oppresion. It's not about the tax payment or jizya, as long as it has anything to do with islam, they gonna argue anyway.

There was such an easy response to this and they went all the way around the block and made no headway . If you live in a Muslim county you pay Zakat which has a higher contribution than tax .zakat goes towards feeding clothing homing people who can’t afford it like benefits jizya if far lower but you’re paying not to enroll in the army and for protection ( modern day paying for the police and army ) . Muslim men would be required to join the army therefore a non Muslim could forgo just a if he joined the army . Simple

Everyone is missing the point. The percentage doesnt matter whether it is 2% or 45% In an islamic country the leaders are muslim and the rules are based on islam. The muslims pay 2.5% to baitul maal (i.e Zakat) The non muslims pay jizyah to baitul maal. If they had no jizyah then there would be no taxes on the non muslims.

Jizya is pretty much just taxes... Most secular Islamic countries applied both taxes and zakats... So, Muslims has to pay both... non-Muslims just to pay taxes... Though...some countries like Malaysia reduce the amount of taxes paid, by the amount of the zakats paid...

Form my little researches, it does seem a fairer system than we have right now. Was it discriminatory yes, but in a positive way if we consider the times. As a Christian would not be drafted to fight other Christians or the Mongols, though the later they may have be more willing. It's not that difficult to understand. Zakat is tax that applies to Muslims. If you're a non Muslim living in a Muslim country, you basically could live tax free and that's not fair. So a separate tax system exists that applies to non Muslims. So that they can also contribute to the country they live in. There is no helping people who are just dumb.

Simple answer is Non-Muslims cannot be compelled to follow Islamic religious obligations such as Zakat, as they do not share the same faith. A more practical solution would be a state-mandated "tax", rooted in divine law, that can be applied to all citizens regardless of their religious beliefs. It simply is not a discriminatory law.

This is from Tafsir Ibn Kathir to help you out: Paying Jizyah is a Sign of Kufr and Disgrace Allah said, حَتَّى يُعْطُواْ الْجِزْيَةَ (until they pay the Jizyah), if they do not choose to embrace Islam, عَن يَدٍ (with willing submission), in defeat and subservience, وَهُمْ صَـغِرُونَ (and feel themselves subdued.), disgraced, humiliated and belittled. Therefore, Muslims are not allowed to honor the people of Dhimmah or elevate them above Muslims, for they are miserable, disgraced and humiliated." We are not allowed to "make things up" in Islam. May Allah guide us both. Salam.
