Totally with you on the hand-holding at the front of the pack. Keep that for long walks on the beach. And 10/10 on the Cocodona coverage. So much fun.

Great episode! 100% with you on the hand-holding. Run 99% of the race together if you want, but in the last mile, shake hands and race it out.

I'm so ***HAPPY*** you brought weekly MTN Outhouse News back. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I was looking through my comment history and this said "sad" instead of "happy" and I have no idea why. I was an accidental auto-correct troll. I love this content. I love your coverage. I look forward to these coming out. You're the man.

One way to thwart hand-holding finishes is to use chip-timing. Unless you were 100% you crossed the start line at the same instant, one of 'ya is going to be behind the other at the finish. Otherwise, what do you do? Add a provision in the rules for a coin-flip? Highest Ultrasignup rank? (kidding)

Just a comment to say the Cocodona coverage was incredible. The live stream was awesome, with the interviews and the multiple simultaneous streams on course, the commercials were awesome, and the clips coming out while the race was still going on were awesome. And right on the heels of Mt. Fuji! Mountain Outpost is killing it. The sport is lucky to have M.O.

Instead of hand-holding, do a rock-paper-scissors five meters away from the line and the winner gets it :p for the giggles.

If two athletes at the top of their sport want to share a podium placing after many hours of grueling effort and months of preparation I say, more power to them. Instead of being upset as spectators we could try celebrating the mutual respect and generosity of spirit these athletes showcase. Perhaps these moments can inspire us to be thankful for our incredible sport and for those with who we share so many miles. Food for thought…

It is more exciting when people race to the finish, but crossing the line together is a by-product of nice people in the sport, and it's a small price to pay.

I'm fine with hand holding finishes. But I think if 1st and 2nd hand hold finish, the outcome should be both are 2nd place with no 1st. For midpackers, nobody would care and that'd be in line with the spirit of trail running (helping each others). For front runners - it affects price purse and sponsor pays and their track record - so up to them.

Maybe the glasses are hypnotizing me or something, but I'm really liking the Mountain Outhouse news program. So keep 'em coming! And sorry to hear about Emma Coburn. I read once she does a lot of trail running in CO for training, and wondered if she'd get into trail racing at some point. As for the hand-holding finishes, yes, it's very unsporting, and needs to stop. It's not too far removed from throwing a race.

I agree that hand-holding finishing should stop but I also think it needs to be the same for all competitors, front or back of the pack. I get running with someone, and the bounds formed at the back of the pack where people want to finish together, there is something special about finishes like we saw for the DFL at Cocodona, but I feel a bit hypocritical if I want the winners to race it out but then I, in the back of the pack, don't do the same. A fun precedent could be that with 100 meters to go, anyone who is running together sprints it out to the finish - that would add excitement to finishes.

I'm personally not against hand-held finishes: as humans, there's more that unites us than divides us. If two racers decide to cooperate, why not? Cooperation happens in a lot of "individual" sports. As for the Transvulcania blooper, that funny as heck to witness live: the English commentators were stunned! But most importantly, congratulations to all Cocodoners, organisers, commentators and especially volunteers! It was a fantastic edition for sure!

hand hoilding is fine. if you ran half of the race together, helped each other and do not feel like racing in the very end, go ahead and share also the finish together. if you want to race, go and race. i think those two people and those two people only know what is appropriate at that moment.

Re hand holding at the front: - maybe sometimes it’s a marketing thing like with the Acteryx guys. Better two winners wearing your shoes than one ??? - sometimes two runners work together to push each other (help) for hours that they feel compelled to share the victory as they shared the journey. (This happened with me and a friend at the Burning River a few years ago. 1/2 mile to go we asked each other how we were gonna do the finish. Sprint race? I told him not me go for it, he said no way. We agreed that after such a long shared experience the only way to finish was together- great memory. But we’re mid packers but maybe elites experience the same feeling.

We push each other and ultimately make eachother better in this sport, it's the reason we celebrate Ihor in the same breath we congratulate Harvey. I think there's a time and place for the hand hold, we do amazing things. I understand why race directors would shy away from this position, but as a fan and participant of the sport - I get it (and I bet deep down you do too).

I love the hand holding finish and think it highlights the beautiful difference of mountain ultras. We are completing something extraordinary regardless. It IS less about the competition than other sports because it's ALSO about the achievement of simply doing and experiencing.
