Super surprised to find someone react to this deep cut Cocteau Twins song. It ends the Heaven or Las Vegas album perfectly, so ethereal, so dreamy, and so kinda sad. Congrats on tackling this one!

Elisabeth Fraser's vocals are one of a kind (at least I haven't heard any female vocalist similar to her) - she just sung so beautifully

Liz Fraser has, so the Alternative British Music press once quoted, " A voice that made the Angels weep with jealously". It is worth listening to her singing "Song To The Siren" with the band This Mortal Coil. Also her singing on the song "Teardrop" by Massive Attack is a superb experience.

We have already reacted to "Song to the Siren": kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHXNoZh8odRmoqM. I also know very well the Teardrop song by Massive Attack. Love, love Liz' singing on it. Crushingly beautiful.

The song pulls on themes from throughout the album, so you have to listen to the whole album to get this song.

This song comes from the beginning of the CT era where the vocals were relatively easy to decipher - but it maddens me that after all these years this one still has so many indecipherable parts. Because, even though I'm going to struggle to articulate my reasoning, I've formed the impression that - where the rest of the album is heavy with songs about new-parenthood - this is a celebration of the other (artistic) kind of creative urge. Who wouldn't become fascinated by a song whose chorus advocates "euphony science", and whose verses mention firedrakes and something-or-other which "suppurates ad nauseam".

Liz Fraser also dated the late, great Jeff Buckley...he was a fan of hers, and then she became a fan of him...anyway, Robin Guthrie on guitar deserves equal accolades. I often drift off to sleep to his solo albums...dreamy

The reaction hasn't even started yet, but I'm so excited. I'll update my comment soon 🙃 Oops. Life got in the way. Glad you enjoyed the song. I gotta say it's pretty pointless to try to transcribe their lyrics so I'm not sure why someone did it. Lol. She is occasionally saying actual words, but a lot of it is gibberish. The beauty of their music, besides the fact that it's plain beautiful, is that you can listen to it and it makes you feel things despite the general lack of discernible lyrics.

I think the details of the song and when Simon got involved are wrong. It is I wear your ring that they recorded after Simon’s dad Ivor Raymonde (songwriter, arranger) passed away. This is my favourite song from the CT’s and Simon told me it was one of his also, and explained how they were feeling at the time when they recorded it. Robin and Liz are very reclusive but Simon is a great guy who will discuss with you things about the music on Twitter. His record label Bella Union has a shop in Brighton and sometimes you can catch him there and he will sign your CT merchandise😁

The lyrics are made up words. It's a Scottish folk tradition and they can't be recreated. They don't mean anything and she's brilliant. Thanks for the reaction.

The translation software is worthless as Liz uses what Eno and others call glossilalia, the dropping of words in favor of range...

@@fuzziestbuggiest LOL so funny how many interpretations there are of their lyrics. I will say, the line here that's written as "I was eagerest on using the stairs I enlisted to find you" is really "Because I'm using gray skies I am listening to find you". 😁
