9:03 Exactly; well said; this is why I never wanted a Code Geass sequel, and always disagreed with those “give us an R3 with Lelouch back” memes on the internet. It’s why I was squarely in the “Lelouch is dead” camp after I watched the last episode. I only reluctantly warmed up to the idea of Lelouch having not died after all (and the fan theory where he gets the Code from Charles) after they announced that they were resurrecting him, because I knew I’d have to reconcile with the fact that a sequel was going to exist. That’s why, going into the movie, I was hoping that they would make Lelouch’s revival unintentional, that he was still fully ready to die and planned the Zero Requiem not knowing he had a dormant Code, so his sacrifice still had some weight left to it. I’m glad they went that route with the movie; making him willing to march to his death because he knows he won’t actually die completely undermines the whole ending imo. Also, Resurrection is a sequel to the recap movies (which are basically an AU), not the anime series canon, so it’s not that there was no setup for Resurrection as a sequel, since the last recap movie ended as a way to flow into/set up the Resurrection movie later, but I do agree that it wasn’t set up properly. Like, the whole purpose of the third movie was to lead the original CG story into Resurrection, but they didn’t do any foreshadowing of the villains or country shown in Resurrection, or even the changes made to the show’s lore in this version, which immediately made me think of plot holes/errors related to the Code and Geass while watching Resurrection, which were only inconsistencies because I was using the original anime series’ lore as a frame of reference (for lack of established lore changes in the recap movies). However, the need for the recap movies and sequel were, in relation to the Code Geass original series overall, still completely unnecessary. It felt kind of like a post-Zero Requiem fanfic.

Appreciated the input. I felt the movie was cringey (maybe just me) at times, but I have been a fan of Code Geass that ever felt at peace with the end. I felt excited knowing there was a possible next step in the series. Now it certainly was not perfect, but by the end I had smile on my face seeing the characters together once again as well as seeing lelouch evolve as a character. He still maintained certain aspects of his character by the end, but I truly appreciated the turn his persona took after his "ressurection". The most frustrating part was the ending because it left room, in my opinion, for multiple paths for the series to go down. None of which are clearly defined at this point... And, as I eluded to, would be happy to see more of.

I loved Resurrection. The ending was perfect for me. C2 admitted that Lelouch didn't want to come back to life, and she was selfish for bringing him back. It was diet, because it wasn't 26 episodes long. I also liked how the villains only arose because they had a crashing war economy in a time of global peace.

Oh yeah, I agree. If it had time to flesh itself out like a whole season of anime does, I think I would have liked it a lot more. Though because it had to jump between the new place, C2 and lelouch, the whole C's world thing, and everyone's reaction to lelouch in only one movie my opinion still stands. I liked it though, just enough to say to stream it later instead of going to the theater.

@@MrTspark99 I can't argue against opinion, but the theatrical experience was rather epic for me. Surround sound, big screen, and popcorn. For the franchise, it meant a little fundraising.

Reserrection is not canon to the series. Shirley is around in it so it's just a follow up to the film trilogy and that's it.

Yeah I agree, thought with that bit after the credits I wouldn't call it "concluded." Opinions though.

Fun Fact: The reason why R2 was so different from R1 was because Sunshine made the writing staff start from scratch because of the new time slot. They had to reintroduce all the characters and basically restart the show in the first episode, this caused them to rewrite the entire season
