I haven't watched Code Geass in a good while, maybe even close to a decade to be honest, but I've really enjoyed your view on it. As a younger person watching it I really just clang to zero and what he represented without thinking about it and his rebellious nature, but its really interesting seeing it as a symbol of being neither a nation nor a force, but starting society from zero. Really great video man ~

bruh this is incredible you've done an amazing job at breaking it all down, ion see why this hasnt blown up yet. could you do one about attack on titan as well possibly about the ending cus i feel like a lot of people dont like the ending because its very complicated to look at isayamas perspective or about the key themes like sacrifice, success, fear etc because the anime is ending very soon as well

I wish more people made vids like you. Can you recommend some places online I can go to read something like this, analyzing stuff like anything I mean. P.s. What bands do you like?

I'm not very familiar with written media analysis as I mostly watch video essays on youtube. The only written analysis I read were all academic research related to literature, so they might be a bit tricky to get to if you're not a university student. As far as youtubers go, I'm going to create a playlist with some good channels that do similar anime/manga analysis so check out my channel in a couple of days and it should be there. As for music, I mostly listen to rock stuff. I've been listening to a lot of Pixies and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard recently.

@@Hakaru I actually read some analysis stuff for Hamlet because it all goes over my head lol Code Geass is such a fun take on it. At least I think anyways. Hmm you got me I'm not a student. Aleksandr is a channel I'm expecting to see on your list ha. I won't forget I'm on your subs. King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard aren't familiar to me but The Pixies are. Could you describe Those first two briefly?

@@vincenzovalentino5005 Don't worry Aleksandr will be there for sure. King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is actually one band, sry if the wording of my comment was confusing lol. I would say their music is something like stoner/psychedelic rock, best check them out for yourself so you can get a better idea :P

@@Hakaru Now I feel silly about the name ha. I just listened to some of their songs and now see why it's hard to sum up the sound. They pass the good music test. Some bands like dabbling in different sounds like the Smashing Pumpkins. Alright, see ya.

@@vincenzovalentino5005 I finally made the playlist. There's a bunch of great smaller channels so hopefully you'll find some new creators to follow.

ok so I found you on Reddit,I wanna ask how do I understand the thematic things in an anime series... like let's say Hxh like what's the theme a character is covering or what's the main theme from the frist chapter (One piece is about freedom but I wouldn't have been able to tell easily if I didn't heard it from other people) I get that my comment is not that well written

Unfortunately I haven't watched HxH and One Piece in ages so I can't really comment on them specifically, but I'll try to explain my thought process with Code Geass to give you an idea of how I approach themes. So, when I first watched Code Geass the thing that most stood out to me was the divide between Lelouch and Zero, and how Lelouch had to basically sacrifice his life for the Zero Requiem, while Zero gets to live on as a symbol of the revolution. When I saw the ending I got the feeling that Code Geass was trying to say something about symbols, so I wondered if there were any other parts of the show where symbols played a big role. When I decided to make this video essay I rewatched the whole show with this theme in mind and I wrote notes for every instance where symbols were mentioned and when they played a significant role. After I finished watching I went over my notes and just put together everything that I found, and from that I made the video. That's pretty much the process I use for all of my videos, and I usually find a lot of stuff I missed the first time I watched an anime because I didn't know where the story was going yet. If you want to get into theme analysis but you're not sure how you could start by going over some themes that other people explored already and see if you can find something that they missed, that could be a good exercise to begin with. For example, you could start reading One Piece from the beginning with this idea of 'freedom' in mind and try to spot the instances where a character was looking for freedom from something or looking for freedom in general. I've had some people ask me about how to write an essay in the past so I might make a video about it at some point. I would love to see more anime video essays on youtube so I hope that more creators will get inspired to start doing them :)
