Code Lyoko is an action adventure series that goes further than action and adventure. It goes beyond a group of good guys fighting attacks from bad guys. The protagonists are complex, flawed characters. The minor antagonists have their own feelings and complexities and can be sympathized with at times. The dialogue is hilarious. The verbal battles between odd and sissy are sophisticated to an almost Shakespearean degree. Sissy's monologues are some of the best soliloquies I've ever seen in a cartoon hands down. Overall this is one of the all time greats for me. Wonderful series

Indigo Aura I don't know about the whole "smart dialogue" part. Or maybe it was just the delivery. No, it wasn't the delivery either. It was the delivery being screwed with by the editing. Yes, that's it. The editing was one of the few issues it had, but it was a really big issue that affected other parts of the show.

+ZGamer Oh my god, same. Like I remembered loving this show as a child and then one time I spoke about it with some friends and we all sat down and marathoned a bunch of episodes online and I still love it to pieces. Sometimes when I need something to play in the background while I do work I'll put an episode on because it's just so nostalgic and great and the formula works. Even the oversized forwards and awkward voice acting can't get in the way of me loving this show.
@KyluxWolf8 жыл бұрын
+Kristen Dornton Oh well, I think that in the Italian version the voice acting was great. I mean, not awesome, but still acceptable. Uhm... I could try that when I'm not feeling motivated enough to animate, thanks for the advice. x3

I always thought there should be this one, dramatic, darker episode that explain how is it possible for them to know that those who die don't come back after time travel- the one episode when they screwed up, and somebody died.
@Bitflip328 жыл бұрын
This show was just ever so slightly ahead of its time. If they make something like this now, minus the formulaic flaws and the clunky editing (and maybe improve the graphics a little), everyone would eat it up. The idea behind it is so awesome, and the core conflicts (the ones that spanned a season or more) were pretty interesting. It got even more interesting when they added more elements in later seasons. And even though the foreheads are a bit ridiculous, the characters are instantly recognizable. Now, with VR finally coming out, I'd love to see another show like this. Heck, I wish the show itself could come back (and actually be animated and not contain awful live-action acting), but you can't hold on to nostalgia forever.

Season 1 was eh and could really just be condensed into one or two pilot episodes. After Aelita was freed from Lyoko (End of Season 1 onward) things speed up as the stakes and dangers became greater, the writing was decent and genuinely felt like a cohesive plot with a direction (Especially with some of the secrets of Lyoko, and Aelita's origin story). The characters became more fleshed out and appreciable with some fairly believable (at points kinda cheesy) drama. I watched this show as a kid and recently re-watched the entire series with a mature mindset, all in all it was a quirky but interesting, imaginative, and adventurous show.
@gerragotheallidile3 жыл бұрын
With season 1, it makes sense on *why* it was slow. The show was just getting off the ground.
I still love this show. And about half way through they did make them unable to reset time without making Xana more powerful so the formula did change slightly.

I agree it was formulaic....but does that make it bad? At least something significantly 'different' happened in each episode. Even the set ups and end results were different. Yeah the show did have a predictable formula, but at the same time it always managed to hook you in because of all the creative new challenges and advisaries the kids face as well as deepening the mysterious origins behind Lyoko & Xana. I can't remember a single episode where EXACTLY the same thing happened, in fact I remember it was always raising the stakes with no sign of slowing down which was exhilarating. The show is brilliant in that it found that perfect balance of keeping enough familiar elements each episode while changing others to continuously make it feel fresh at the same time.

+Darkshark1829 It would be awesome if the show was ever re-done with a larger budget to make better, more interesting, fights between the main characters and Xana's forces since that really was the weakest part of the series, in my opinion. There's only so many times you can see people shoot or slash robots while dodging or deflecting their pathetic laser attacks before it eventually grows old. Which is a shame since the rest of the show and how many crazy situations Xana could murder people in was really cool and creative! It's like: Your bully character is going to be murdered by a giant effed-up teddy bear, could you please just have your main characters do something OTHER THAN stabbing a group of 3 slow-moving small blocks to stop that crap?!

Shuffling through the entire catalogue, I'm surprised the waifu he'd want is Kneesocks rather than Raven. Both are reasonably awesome wifu choices, just questioning when the Raven love came in full swing.

This is one of my favorite tv shows of all time. It's got a compelling story, memorable characters, and most of all in a show like this, fast-paced and on-your-seat action. I loved every moment of this show. It still holds a special place in my heart

You took me back with this. I was a fan of Code Lyoko and think it's an underrated cartoon. Even though it was kinda weird lol. I miss watching that programming block.

Code Lyoko still lives!?!? WHERES THE ENGLISH VERSION!?! *it will never happen*
@Sassygamer29 жыл бұрын
The Syncshadow You can watch the french live action version with english subtitles, Its actually really good and I didn't find the actors jarring at all, plus the story only gets darker than the original was which is cool

Code lyoko is literally my childhood. It's one of those shows that was Your favorite as a kid and then as you get older you forget all about it until some guy who likes rebels and taxis mentions it in a toonami retrospect. Thanks rebeltaxi.

You must be kidding me. Is that all you remain of Code Lyoko?! If Jeremie (and no gosh no, it's NOT JeremY) didn't send himself on Lyoko to fight, it's because he's a *big crap* in sports, but the only one who can safely use the supercomputer! Not because he's a Farquad! And the heroes cant die in the virtual world too! Well not die, but they can be translated into programs forever and be lost in the Web. Besides... You missed the relationships beetween every character! You missed also how they can deal (or can't, as we saw in lots of episodes) with both their superhero secret lifes AND their normal student lifes. You missed a lot on what's beyond the concept itself : chose beetween an almost unrealisable ideal but with child's values (try to make Aelita real, but risquing everyone's life), and a realisable thing but without values (end the supercomputer, destroy Aelita, and let everyone else safe). That was season one plot, behind fighting a stupid program who thinks humanity must be erased. But I don't blame you, you can't have taken all the species of this show, because I can guess you didn't watch in french, with all the little worlds that we can't translate.... But to say you were waiting for CLE (talking in the past because it's already over and omg thanksfully it won't be again).... It's the reaction of someone who didn't get the last episode in the right way. Code Lyoko is an ended story. The show has a closed end. XANA is dead, out, it will never ever come back, they defeated it. They know everything about Aelita's past, including her mom. Saying that XANA is still alive means one thing : we will never be sure if it's over, if we are safe. If XANA revivals, who says it won't do it five years later again? With the revival of Lyoko's vilain, all that the previous show made will be nothing to matter.

Well, considering Moon Scoop, the company behind the show, went bankrupt shortly after releasing Evolution (that's probably why you never saw the english dub), we're pretty sure that the story, aside of fanfiction, has ended. I wonder if the new owner of the IP, Dargaud (they own Asterix & Obelix, aside of others) will do anything with it.
@majomist9 жыл бұрын
Likki Curry I actually know that Moonscoop, previously Antefilm, is closed, and Dargaud bought Code Lyoko. And for Evolution, I watched it, as I'm french I could saw and eww I wish I never see that. And the story has ended, we even have a full episode with "what shall we do now?" as a plot. Personnly, aside from re-editing the Code Lyoko Chronicles novels in french (still waiting for tomes 3 & 4, but we have a fan-translation though), I don't want anything from Code Lyoko. Or a spin-off, but not with XANA. XANA is dead, and won't be back, never. Evolution made that mistake, and Evolution ended with nothing less that unpopularity, even worse than the game that never aired.
@OckhamAsylum9 жыл бұрын
The Maxim's worlds It's unfortunate that Evolution sucked. I wish Code Lyoko continued in some form. It may have been a small part in my childhood, but it's a part nonetheless. Who knows? Maybe sometime in the future we'll see a new Code Lyoko show. Maybe the new owners of the property will create something new, and more importantly, good.
@GumSkyloard7 жыл бұрын
Jeremie actually tried to send himself to Lyoko 3 times. On one of them, he got stuck on the Limbo between Lyoko, and the Earth. The other one, he was virtualized into a fake, XANA-corrupted Earth. And the other one, he managed to do it, but we never saw his avatar. But, Ulrich and Odd said that Jeremie looked ridiculous.

...I actually watched all 99 episodes of Code Lyoko last year on Netflix. You do realize a very basic pattern with the show very quickly but...that song though! No matter how many times I watched it, I always had to sing along, lol. Absolutely loved the piano version featured here. Oh, and they changed Jeremy's voice halfway through! He went from sounding like a nasally nerd to his voice actress having to fight to sound like a boy. Not sure what version I liked better though. And I also very quickly came to hate William. Not that I was ever going to go so far as to scream I preferred Ulrich and Yumi, but William still bothered me for a reason that I can no longer remember.
