Imagine being a German code breaker in the German military, you hear a guy ask for a “code talker” then seconds later both of them are speaking a language you have literally no way of comprehending or even thought existed, that would be terrifying

We used our languages in Vietnam talking to each other when there was trouble, some of the guys wouldn't go out unless one of us were with them because we always sent one of us ahead to be able to send data back.

A "Comanche Rade" was a real, terrifying fear among the pioneers. I love that they played such a vital role in WWII. Imagine having a code the Germans could never break because it wasn't a code!

We the living owe much to those who spoke through the wind. Their words will forever cross the cosmos as the frequencies of their words. Those words saved many when death walk next to each. Many of our fathers, uncles and brothers were able to come home to be part of their families again. My father spoke to me of his time and bore much, pain and dark comedy as a way to pass that time to me and my brothers. They did what was instilled by training but always knowing the taste of fear every moment they moved in combat. The code talkers made a difference for all those who survived in the lands they cross ending the nightmare that engulfed them.

The Seminole Code Talkers were a THIRD tribe who worked during World War II. Sad how everyone cheers the Navajo but forgets these guys. All three groups were vital in the war effort.

I was aware of Navajo code talkers but not Comanche ones. Glad to learn about the Comanche service in WW2. I have been learning history of Cynthia Ann Parker and Quanah Parker. This information adds to my respect for the Native nations.

I got to take a trip down there sometime. I was born in Lawton, I got some Comanche heritage on my father's side, but I've been up in Northwest Indiana since I was sixteen months old, I'm twenty nine now. I believe his family name was Perkaquanard. My middle name is after his father, Lehman.

Please do. Visit and learn your roots. The Natives ways and history are sadly becoming a thing of the past and it's up to the young of today to make sure it's maintained and not forgotten. I'm not native at all and I'm expressing this importance. Keep the traditions, teachings, and wisdom alive forever and teach them and their importance to your children.

Never heard of code talkers outside the Navajo; it is only because of the movie. It is a shame that all code talkers are not given more credit for what they have done. I was born in Champaign, Illinois and it is a shame what political correctness has done by eliminating Chief Illiniwek as the mascot for the University of Illinois. It was not out of disrespect; but to me a tribute to the Illini people from that area. Just to see the Chief was a thrill to me; I'm now 72. I have a great respect for the native people of America. Thank you from a Veteran for the service your people have done!

Chibitty seems like he was a real cool guy. It was a stroke of genius to use these guys. It is a very real shame that they were not recognized as citizens until 1924. Our government owes them a lot. Here in NE Indiana the Miami are establishing a cultural center in their native area.

Congratulations on this excellent program. Although I've watched many of the older documentaries about The Code Talkers, this one contained a great deal of new info & detailed stories about the men themselves (not just the development & use of the code). Thank you for this important -- and inspiring -- addition to our nation's military history.

Never too late to learn new things. I knew about the Navajo cide talkers but not comanches. Great servjce.i grew up farther west and coincidentally next to a couple reservations. I knew graduates of Indian schools and played against 1 in HS. As a child the 1st thing I was taught about them was tbeir horsemanship. They were fantastic riders a d carried for the animals very well especially comparred to others I'll not name. They did a great service in the war much gratitude and respect.

Genaro the Fake Politician Cherokee is a written language, I grew up with many native speakers/writers. Kinda surprised it would be used for that reason, more susceptible to being broken since it IS written/published, etc. All of these men were amazing, it's one of my favorite WWII stories.
@polrealfake
@polrealfake 7 жыл бұрын
OGSpaceCadet Good point on the fact that Cherokee would be easier to break, but wouldn't an enemy of the US actually have to physically *enter* a Cherokee reservation to obtain the Cherokee alphabet?
@2HRTS1LOVE
@2HRTS1LOVE 7 жыл бұрын
Genaro the Fake Politician No. Well, when i grew up in the 80s in eastern OK, we learned about it in school, the alphabet wasn't secret or anything. The Cherokees I grew up with didn't live on a reservation, they just owned homes and property like everyone else, though I'm guessing land had been in families for many generations, since OK was Indian Territory, before 1907. I lived in Sequoyah county, near his birthplace, he was the creator of the written alphabet, a hero to his people. I'm assuming the alphabet would have been published during WWII era, a lot of whites in my area spoke it, too. It wasn't nearly as isolated as Navajo, for example, which had less than 40 non native speakers in the world.

Choctaw was used in WW1 against the germans- after it began being used, the US won the war shortly afterwords. The US won key instrumentals battles whenever they used Native American languages- of course- being deliberately hard to understand for your enemy is probably the most important way to win.

If Martinez has the flag he should gift it to the museum or back to the chibittys when his works are done. My cousins and uncle are chibittys and my moms a saupitty and someone in direct line has uncle Larry's diary flag. It'd just seem right that something so special be passed down to blood, what Martinez is doing is the lords work and maybe the last wishes but in 3 generations when that flag is in Joe's great grandkids homes I'd hate for it to go unappreciated.
