Honeywell Voyager 1202g - Unboxing & Test

Need help. Bought a honeywell voyager scanner that came with usb cable like yours, but my cash register has com/serial ports instead, so i bought a cable to connect my voyager to the com port. STILL won't light up or scan anything. The cable i bought had an ac adapter port, so i connected that as well but it didn't work either. Only works when i connect it to my laptop. What am I doing wrong?? It scans
