So glad Codie mentioned carpet cleaning. I can tell you from experience that carpet cleaning is a service that you can upsell without feeling immoral. Once you're in the customer's residence, you can also offer add-on services, such as up: upholstery cleaning, tile and grout cleaning, drape cleaning, mattress cleaning, water damage restoration, etc. I've been in the game for a minute and can easily make $1000/day if you market and network correctly. Also want to mention that when using professional-grade carpet cleaning solutions/products, there is a bit of science behind it because of pH levels within the product and using on the wrong material. For instance, you don't want to use a non-woolsafe product on a natural fiber. You'll also want to make sure you don't cause any bleeding of colors, especially on rugs. I would recommend getting certified by IICRC. I have no affiliation with them, but I did take the course and became certified in carpet and upholstery cleaning. $300 investment turned into good money since 2007.

I cleaned swimming pools in my 20s after a sudden divorce and big move... it was something I could do for an easy 25/hour with little trainng needed. I agree this is a great idea for a starter business. the owner of the company started on his own and eventually scaled. his biggest challenge is keeping staff long-term but its pretty fast to train new workers, so even high turnover isn't that worrisome. insurance is a big deal though -- your workers could cause someone's home to flood if they do something wrong with an indoor pool.

Even easier than window cleaning and cheaper to start up is bin cleaning. Jet wash and water supply. All you have to do is follow the rubbish truck around. Maybe it depends on the area. But, $20 an hour in Tx would keep you staffed. Maybe you aren’t marketing properly for job positions. College students, high school graduates, Hispanic communities etc should get you everything you need. With this being said, if you’re only offering $20 for labor, then don’t expect employees to care.
