I remember developing something like this for my computer science final year project using java j2se desktop apps with a admin console so you can ban and see who is online etc. All the messages send and recieved where usin java socket. opening server and client sockets etc. It opened my eyes to network programming and really enjoyed this project. i graduated 2006 i think
