Shawn, I’m on my wife’s account. I can’t believe what I’m seeing. My name is Jonathan Barrow and Alford was my squad leader in boot camp. I too was in the battle of fallujah 04-05. Anyway I was told back then Alford was shot in the head. I didn’t know he made it back from Iraq until now, watching this video. Thank you so much for this video. I can’t believe this. I just clicked and was like wait hold up!!! Am I seeing a ghost.

I have used you and this story to motivate so many people civilians and Marines not to give up. My son is currently in bootcamp at Parris Island I hope he has taken you as an example. I love this story not because of what I taught you, but what you did with it. He is my big brother so I always looked up to him, but that day he married his beautiful wife and all those marines sharing his accolades, ive never been more proud of anyone. Just to think with your own mind about battles like Fallujah takes you to almost a fictional world, as to what your mind can think what it'd be like. Then to watch docs on it, live footage etc.. it blows the mind. Then to hear the REAL stories from men like this, who were barely men on paper... It really is important, I believe, to hear this stuff. Life makes us and shapes us. He didn't sign up to be a hero or a legend, his path is an interesting one. Thanks to the men who do these things and especially to the men who got them ready for it, or at least prep them as much as they can because really, you can't prep for this 100% no way. Thank you for your sacrifice. I would parrot what the others said about Jesus. We are living in the fallen creation that we chose as humans who rebelled against God. The reason we feel so depressed is because we humans are living a life that we weren’t created to live. We have been separated from God and Jesus (God in the flesh) who came on a rescue mission to bring back his creation from the fallen curse that it has begun. Once you give to life over to Jesus your redeemed, we believers are strangers in a foreign land waiting to go home to Heaven. God bless you. Hope you find your godly purpose.

Whether Shawn realizes this or not, just allowing these veterans to tell their stories help. I ran the Veterans task force, I worked with veterans of all wars and genres. The one common thread that helped some veterans come out of their protective shell and start living was the ability to talk about their experiences or hear fellow military experiences with others who understand and we're in the military. Good on Shawn, his show helps whether it's known or not.
@JourneymanLineman2 жыл бұрын
Not just others who you were in the military. But as as civilians. It helps me to shut my mouth and get my ass working gratefully. It’s is my privilege to work in a free country and go back to my hotel room at night, have a hot shower, a warm meal and a phone call as long as I want with my loved ones. It reminds us to be grateful and thankful for the service these men do, we civilians might not understand empathetically, but we need to hear these stories before we can become empathetic. These men are trapped in their minds, thinking no one cares. We want to care, we just don’t know if no one says anything.

Love the channel. So many great people and inspiration and very eye opening. I started my entry into the Army when 17 and close to 18 and graduating in 2002. August 16th 2002 going to Fort Knox for boot camp. In between my ASVAB and leave date I was involved in an accident and was in a coma on life support for 8 days. Just destroyed. My organs started shutting down and blood clots, broken bones, head injury. Spent 6 more weeks in the hospital. I was then disqualified from military service due to injuries and deficits I still have. 1 stranger in a split second took my dream from me. After that I went hard left in life and deviated into criminal bullshit. Putting metal and poison on the streets of Massachusetts. Picked up a ten year heroin addiction. I'm 11 years clean now. On my 7 year anniversary I got fentanyl and a campsite in NH and took all my meds and injected the fentanyl and laid down ready to go. A park ranger came because I didnt check out and called 911. Thats the second incident where I flatlined multiple times and shouldve died but didnt.Tried countless meds for anxiety and depression since 13yrs old and ended later as crippling disorders and ptsd. All the way up to ketamine infusions that didn't work and trying to set up TMS. Mushrooms just recently on my radar as a medicinal option. Mr. Alford, Sir you are a savage and a monumental inspiration. Youre very well spoken and able to convey feeling in your stories. You gave me a lot to think about. I thank you both very much. Cody, THANK YOU for your service to our great country - I am in awe of your courage, tenacity, and mentality of “never quit”. To say I am grateful is an understatement for what you did during your service. I am full of compassion for what you have been through and suffered through, and I am hopeful for your continuing healing and recovery. Thank you for helping other hurting warriors on their road to recovery, healing and wholeness. As a 62 year old Christian lady, I have to tell you that the ceremony with the shaman and lying on the pentagram scared the bajeebers out of me, as does the use of drugs. I think true healing of body, mind and soul can come only from knowing Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. From hearing you talk, I believe God put the desire to be a warrior inside you. He prepared the way for you and He called you to be where you were for a reason. He knows what you need and will provide ALL you need to heal if you ask Him. Super remarkable because I can’t remember any of the details anymore. I can’t remember our TF numbers. I can’t remember our call signs. Everything is either forgotten or in deep storage. I can’t remember 1/100th of the details he’s remembering. I don’t know if it’s for my own protection or if I’m broken.

I've listened to the entire thing, and the part that really brought me to tears was him recounting how difficult life was after he took up that job with low pressure. Like veterans struggle with so much more than we can possibly imagine.

Out of all the Special Forces Podcast & channels I watch, Shawn you are THE BEST host, out of all of them. You actually let your guests tell their story, you dont continuously cut them off to ask questions. The interviews always flow naturally. Its Raw & Real & just what I like. God bless you sir & Thank you for your service!

What’s up gents? Great interview! I’m a US Marine in my mid fifties and I served from 86’ to 90’. I’m a little older than you both and it doesn’t make me better or smarter than anyone but I am wiser than I was when I was your age. I’ve raised 4 children 2 boys and 2 girls. My fatherly advice to new fathers is very simple. Quality time. Spending close time with your children is the best thing for them. Be it taking them to the beach, camping, playing ball or doing a puzzle together. The time with you is what will form that close bond and trust for the rest of their lives. Whatever activity you choose it doesn’t matter as much as quality time together. Be a mentor to them and emulate whatever you learned from your fathers or father figures that was positive. My dad had good and bad qualities, like any man. I took the good things I learned from him and skipped the bad. Not a whole lot to it. Give them lots of your love and time. I hope this helps. Semper Fi!

I think you'll find parts of his life have been extracted & used by HOLLOWOOD, msn media is a toxic propergander machine, hi-story is soon exposed as an agreed upon lie. ALL need to get informed and involved, find out whats taught in school, & why services are falling apart from new agenda. Heroes stand up & we need good examples. kind regards alls

Im a single mom of a 9 year old boy. Dads an addict, bailed on us years ago. Every morning I talk to him about these key life lessons. Embracing struggle, doing the hard things until they become easy, mastering mental resilience, physical resilience, staying humble, being grateful for the opportunities that others don't get. He's been in combat sports since he was 4- wrestling ( 3rd in state😊) These lessons are so fkng key in developing true faith in your own abilities, quite possibly the most important lesson in all of life. He was apprehensive to do his first intensive wrestling bootcamp this morning with the "big kids". 8 hrs of heavy live drills in the rain with older kids and college level athletes for a 9 yr old isnt easy- and his friends called in 'sick' to camp so hes going alone. We listened to Cody on the way to the bus. He remembered his WHY and who both of us are striving to be every day. We do the hard things despite our fear, out of spite and passion to overcome. The indomitable human spirit.

I worked with a man named Cody. He was a veteran, probably the same age as this guy and was stationed in Iraq. He didn’t talk about it. He talked about the importance of positivity and loving yourself and everyone around you. He rode his bike to work everyday, but his uniform always stayed sharp. He always had his lunch, with healthy foods and protein shake. You never saw him without a giant smile on his face. He was always talking about his son and how proud he was of him and how excited he was to see him. He didn’t know it at the time, but I was homeless when I worked there with him. He was my favorite person to be around because he always inspired me and pushed me to keep trying to make it and to keep loving life. I never had a clue about the war he was still fighting, behind closed doors. Miss you, Cody. Rest In Peace, brother.
